I understand some people think subjecting an animal to anything that doesn't happen in nature is cruel, but I view the world from a less extreme angle.

Winston never acts annoyed at having the costume on, and he actually enjoys it because he gets lots of attention. He goes to nursing homes and visits the residents. This was Halloween & the residents love when he visits. The administrator asks for Winston to visit frequently because many residents interact more than ever when he is there.

I think you are confusing an animal showing submissive behavior with shame or humiliation. Any animal that is trained and obeys it's trainer is showing submission.

This is completely different from humiliation. Humiliation only comes from feeling embarrassed. Dogs don't have that emotion. You are simply attributing what you think you would feel in that situation to Winston, but it doesn't work that way. Winston is feeling threatened by the strange reflection he sees in the mirror. He's angry.

I agree that in the case of the circus, there is often (especially historically when people weren't investigating) severe horrible treatment. On youtube you can see a Ringly Brothers elephant trainer on hidden camera and how he treated elephants and talked about them demeaningly behind the scenes (using a staff with the hook on the end to beat them under the chin). That is horrible and rightfully should be banned.

I think that's at a level well beyond this lobster outfit situation though.

Actually, this probably proves he is pretty smart. He saw his reflection and realized that it was just him. But with the lobster costume he could not look at himself so when he saw himself in the mirror again he thought it was another dog.

I'll have to agree with you. Winston's best friend is our 120 pound presa canario. Winston is 19 pounds, and he thinks he can boss our presa around. He might be small, but the bulldog in him leads him to believe he's anything but.

This video happened at Halloween time. Keri works at a nursing home and from popular demand she takes Winston to work with her to hang out with the residents and encourage therapy patients. It's amazing how animals can inspire people and lift spirits without ever saying a word.
