Hey guys. I'm battling from schizophrenia. I'm not asking for money or views or anything, but just for support and for people to hear me out. My psychiatrist said to let people know about your problem, but everyone thinks I'm weird and my family cannot understand or take me seriously. @milkandganja Oh and I forgot to mention, glutamate along with dopamine are the suspected players in schizophrenia, so playing around with glutamate whether through agonism or antagonism with marijuana could play a role I guess. But then there's the whole cannabidiol theory, so like I said, there are no fine lines with marijuana and the mind.

there are some people who genuinely want to benefit from getting help for their problem but others don't seem to make progress and just want to remain that way for the sake of financial benefit so they dont have to work for a living. im sure you'll agree there are some who take advantage of having a problem and maybe exagerate their condition a little bit.
most cases of schizophrenia are misdiagnoses of much simpler problems but the mental and behavioral health fields like to give themselves work which is pathetic. Look it up. Sleep deprivation causes psychosis. So does a low calorie intake.

My girlfriends father (the biological one) has paranoid schizofrenia and is in a psychiatric clinic in Germany. She was four years old when her killed her mother in front of hers and her two sisters eyes. The girls including my girlfriend got adopted by aunt and uncle. My STUPID question (but I love her and care about our future) is if she will develop this disease like her father if there is a risk. They said that its 10% if one of the parents is schizofrenic. Is that something to worry about?

I have to say that he took drugs and founded at his place (the day that he did something bad to his wife) an empty bottle of vodka. First he diagnosed with psychos its the name in swedish I dont know in english and then with schizofrenia that got worse.

its interesting to note that psychologists and doctors will never accept the fact that some people may of heard sounds from possible spiritual planes or some super natural but they won't acknowlege even the remote possibilitty. psychiatrists and doctors in general dont seem to go along the lines that everybody is different but rather consider human beings as all the same. the fact is there is variations is us all mentally and physically. it seems hard to have an opinion with doctors and psycs

Please, see a naturopath who has experience treating mental disorders. This is how my sister has been cured. IT IS NOT A LIFETIME ILLNESS. There are natural cures. And I'd bet that your schizophrenia is a physically-imbalanced-caused schizophrenia. If you are still on meds, the natural cures would be combined with the meds. And then later, possibly, the meds would be gradually tapered part, or all the way, down. With continued naturopathics.

Sufficient amounts of anphetamine of cocain will make andybody paranoid phsychotic until the drugs wear off. But this is not scitzeprenia, which has internal biochemical causes, though of course steet drugs make it worse.

It has been said that cannabis has been linked to the development of schizophrenia in people who are genetically predisposed to this disorder. Without genetic disposition, I think the chances of developing schizophrenia would be much lower, although still there. Something interesting about less potent strains though, they contain more cannabidiol which actually has antipsychotic effects. Maybe that's why cannabis has been deemed a 'double-edged sword' in relation to various psychoses.
@eBiology Cannabis when compared to Alcohol which is peddled freely on every street corner looks pretty benign. Considering booze is directly implicated in 50% of all car fatalities, 60% of all aggravated assaults, 65% of murders, and a large percentage of spousal abuse, battery of women & children, rape, molestation ... everyone knows the list
@atrios28 Well alcohol is much more detrimental on the human body than cannabis, alcohol takes its toll both physically and psychologically at somewhat severe levels after persistent abuse. Cannabis also takes physical and mental tolls, but they seem to be much less severe. That is unless someone is genetically pre-disposed to certain mental health conditions.
@word23498 Yea I am certainly not trying to endorse the use of marijuana, I don't recommend people use it especially if they have a family history of schizophrenia or other types of psychoses. However, less potent strains do seem to have some kind of antipsychotic effect in schizophrenic inpatients. At the moment, obviously I think that psychiatric help is the best course of treatment for these conditions, however maybe in the future cannabidiol will be a treatment option. Stay strong man!
out of all honesty, weed is not the answer. Schizophrenic patients specifically need a prescription medication, even with weed sometimes it doesn't do the trick the same way. And for the paranoid schizophrenics weed would do little to nothing. Paranoid Schizophrenics need the full treatment because otherwise they could get violent and do things they don't mean to.
@Killermolls44 Oh I know it isn't, and like I said, I don't recommend anyone try it especially if they have a history of psychosis. At the moment, antipsychotics seem to be the most powerful method of treating various forms of psychosis and I support their use. The point I was trying to make though is that cannabidiol (not THC) seems to have some neuro-protective effects. Once again though, I have never smoked marijuana and I do not support the use of marijuana especially in schizophrenics.
Marijuana increases your levels of a neurotransmitter known as dopamine, which is that "feel" good effect one gets from being high. Those who smoke marijuana excessively have been known to develop schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is caused by an increased volume of dopamine in the brain. Its called the Dopamine Theory in regards to schizophrenia.

A certain genetic disposition might do fine before weed is introduced? Really? My advice... get into the insurance business, where statistics actually lead to profit.
@gcarlson I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. I am not endorsing the use of marijuana in patients who are genetically pre-disposed, I am merely stating the results of some research that was recently conducted. Establish a background in biology and don't pointlessly attack people.
People probably don't wanna hear this, but schizophrenia has been cured in hundreds if not thousands of patients by Orthomolecular Medicine, which is a combination of proper nutrition and large (sometimes 4g daily) doses of certain vitamins (especially B3, niacin), eventually getting patients off their drugs very gradually. Search for videos of Dr. Abram Hoffer and also the documentary 'Masks of Madness' to see what all this 'nutritional nonsense' is about. Oh, and do try to have an open mind.
if the schizophrenia person stops taking the medication, about a week later the symtoms will come back and then leave right when you start taking it agian.

Actually, the extensive use of psychotropic drugs such as LSD or mushrooms has been linked to many schizophrenic patients. I have an uncle who is an example of this-- although it may be true that he had a genetic predisposition for the disease, the drugs that he used directly led to the emergence of his schizophrenia. In response to mariajandira, his delusional symptoms (obviously) did not go away after the effects of the drugs passed.
@beachbabe417 Not correct, per se, as a generalization. There has been extensive research and no causality can be found linking drug use as a cause of schizophrenia. Drug-induced psychosis is common among cocaine and meth users, however, and there are negative sequelae for psychedelic use as well. This is different from saying drugs cause schizophrenia.

Unless you have it in your genes, you won't "get" schizophrenia by taking drugs. Perhaps a temporary psychosis from a heavy dose of stimulants or psychedelics, but it's virtually never permanent, and is not, by definition, schizophrenia. This video shows symptoms reminiscent of amphetamine psychosis.
You cannot get schizophrenia by taking drugs. Although, it is thought that if you are at risk of developing it anyway, some drugs can bring the symptoms to the surface a lot quicker. The drug most people consider the biggest risk is cannabis.
You may experience schizophrenia symptoms while under the influence of some heavy drugs like the guy on this video, however it goes away once the effects of the drug have passed.
@soldierside365 It is believed that schizophrenia is a combination of both genetics and environment. If you already have schizophrenia or are genetically predisposed to it, any drugs or alcohol will of course aggravate the condition. However, smoking marijuana will not cause you to get schizophrenia on its own. This is yet another scare tactic to keep people from smoking marijuana.

@mariajandira Absolutely correct, many victims of the cruel disease have been tested and scientists that not only marijuana, but high amounts of MDMA (more commonly known as Ecstasy) can cause severe brain damage resulting in schizophrenic symptoms.

@mariajandira to correct SalutationToTheDawn. schizophrenia is a genetic disease, not something caused by marijuana or drugs. yes drugs will trigger it but they are not the cause. if you have it you will get it no matter what, eventually the symptoms will appear

No, no, cannabis is not he biggest risk, cannabis has no risk. But that being said, you literally CAN develop a whole plethora of psychological "illnesses" as the feeble minded would call it from a broad array of hallucinogenic drugs. People who have used LSD at high doses for their first time have developed schizophrenia and schizophreniform psychosis as a direct result.
@SodaAndFedEx I believe that drugs, on their own, cannot give a person schizophrenia. Thus, the vast majority of drug users do not suffer from the condition. If a person develops schizophrenia following drug abuse, that person, in my opinion, would have been predisposed to develop the condition anyway. We both can only speculate though, since researchers in this field are having the same arguments.

You may increase the possibility of developing it by taking drugs 'only' if you are genetically prone to schizophrenia (because one of your parents, or both, have suffered it) but drugs themselves do NOT cause the illness. not everybody who's on drugs develops it. @SodaAndFedEx sorry man, research would tell you otherwise. As most people have been saying, drug use (cannabis being the only well researched one) can evoke schizophrenia; meaning it is correlated with schizophrenia. But with any correlation there is no way to say what caused what. It's very possible that the person was going to develop it anyways and perhaps they used drugs because of their predisposition to schizophrenia. Of course the opposite is also true, but unlikely as research tells us.

You CAN get schizophrenia from drugs. Your brain has to first have a predisposition for it but the drug can be the trigger that brings it out and makes you permanently insane. Even if you have a predisposition to it you can avoid having schizophrenia by not having too much stress in your life and NOT doing drugs. Unfortunately, there's no test to know whether or not you have latent schizophrenia so smoking lots of weed puts you at risk.

@SalutationToTheDawn Doing drugs CAN help one develop a mental illness. It is coupled with other factors, such as genetics, but doing drugs is most definitely a culprit in developing mental illness.

Foolish, foolish statement. It is more commonly associated with psychedelics, particularly LSD than any other drug. I myself have Hallucinogenic Persisting Perceptual Disorder from years of LSD abuse, so I know first hand just how miserable this kind of thing can be.

How can you bring politics into this? Stop doing drugs and think clearly for more than three seconds. yeah, we definitely aren't equal. but we have highly evolved brains, which can move past this "survival of the fittest " instinct that other animals have. we should try and break the cycle of social darwinism, rather than embrace it in distress.
why break something that works? With evolved brains comes a higher standard. These people are lowering the standard. Once theyre gone, then we can start to elevate even more as MANKIND and as a whole, than as "sects" that all want different things

Do actaully believe that if there were thousands of people dieing of starvation they wouldn't kill each other for food? The will to survive wouldn't allow them the oppertunity to "wait for help". Some times people really amaze me. I serriously can't believe how disgustingly niave you all can be. Man has only evolved physically. We are the same people psycologically. We may be bigger, stronger, and smarter, but psycologically we are the same creatures that walked the earth a million years ago.

My girlfriends father (the biological one) has paranoid schizofrenia and is in a psychiatric clinic in Germany. She was four years old when her killed her mother in front of hers and her two sisters eyes. The girls including my girlfriend got adopted by aunt and uncle. My STUPID question (but I love her and care about our future) is if she will develop this disease like her father if there is a risk. They said that its 10% if one of the parents is schizofrenic. Is that something to worry about?

It has been said that cannabis has been linked to the development of schizophrenia in people who are genetically predisposed to this disorder. Without genetic disposition, I think the chances of developing schizophrenia would be much lower, although still there. Something interesting about less potent strains though, they contain more cannabidiol which actually has antipsychotic effects. Maybe that's why cannabis has been deemed a 'double-edged sword' in relation to various psychoses.

@atrios28 Well alcohol is much more detrimental on the human body than cannabis, alcohol takes its toll both physically and psychologically at somewhat severe levels after persistent abuse. Cannabis also takes physical and mental tolls, but they seem to be much less severe. That is unless someone is genetically pre-disposed to certain mental health conditions.

@word23498 Yea I am certainly not trying to endorse the use of marijuana, I don't recommend people use it especially if they have a family history of schizophrenia or other types of psychoses. However, less potent strains do seem to have some kind of antipsychotic effect in schizophrenic inpatients. At the moment, obviously I think that psychiatric help is the best course of treatment for these conditions, however maybe in the future cannabidiol will be a treatment option. Stay strong man!

out of all honesty, weed is not the answer. Schizophrenic patients specifically need a prescription medication, even with weed sometimes it doesn't do the trick the same way. And for the paranoid schizophrenics weed would do little to nothing. Paranoid Schizophrenics need the full treatment because otherwise they could get violent and do things they don't mean to.

@Killermolls44 Oh I know it isn't, and like I said, I don't recommend anyone try it especially if they have a history of psychosis. At the moment, antipsychotics seem to be the most powerful method of treating various forms of psychosis and I support their use. The point I was trying to make though is that cannabidiol (not THC) seems to have some neuro-protective effects. Once again though, I have never smoked marijuana and I do not support the use of marijuana especially in schizophrenics.

Marijuana increases your levels of a neurotransmitter known as dopamine, which is that "feel" good effect one gets from being high. Those who smoke marijuana excessively have been known to develop schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is caused by an increased volume of dopamine in the brain. Its called the Dopamine Theory in regards to schizophrenia.

People probably don't wanna hear this, but schizophrenia has been cured in hundreds if not thousands of patients by Orthomolecular Medicine, which is a combination of proper nutrition and large (sometimes 4g daily) doses of certain vitamins (especially B3, niacin), eventually getting patients off their drugs very gradually. Search for videos of Dr. Abram Hoffer and also the documentary 'Masks of Madness' to see what all this 'nutritional nonsense' is about. Oh, and do try to have an open mind.

Actually, the extensive use of psychotropic drugs such as LSD or mushrooms has been linked to many schizophrenic patients. I have an uncle who is an example of this-- although it may be true that he had a genetic predisposition for the disease, the drugs that he used directly led to the emergence of his schizophrenia. In response to mariajandira, his delusional symptoms (obviously) did not go away after the effects of the drugs passed.

Drug-induced psychosis is common among cocaine and meth users, however, and there are negative sequelae for psychedelic use as well. This is different from saying drugs cause schizophrenia.

Unless you have it in your genes, you won't "get" schizophrenia by taking drugs. Perhaps a temporary psychosis from a heavy dose of stimulants or psychedelics, but it's virtually never permanent, and is not, by definition, schizophrenia. You cannot get schizophrenia by taking drugs. Although, it is thought that if you are at risk of developing it anyway, some drugs can bring the symptoms to the surface a lot quicker. The drug most people consider the biggest risk is cannabis.

If you already have schizophrenia or are genetically predisposed to it, any drugs or alcohol will of course aggravate the condition. However, smoking marijuana will not cause you to get schizophrenia on its own. This is yet another scare tactic to keep people from smoking marijuana.

No, no, cannabis is not he biggest risk, cannabis has no risk. But that being said, you literally CAN develop a whole plethora of psychological "illnesses" as the feeble minded would call it from a broad array of hallucinogenic drugs. People who have used LSD at high doses for their first time have developed schizophrenia and schizophreniform psychosis as a direct result.

@SodaAndFedEx I believe that drugs, on their own, cannot give a person schizophrenia. Thus, the vast majority of drug users do not suffer from the condition. If a person develops schizophrenia following drug abuse, that person, in my opinion, would have been predisposed to develop the condition anyway. We both can only speculate though, since researchers in this field are having the same arguments.

You may increase the possibility of developing it by taking drugs 'only' if you are genetically prone to schizophrenia (because one of your parents, or both, have suffered it) but drugs themselves do NOT cause the illness. not everybody who's on drugs develops it. @SodaAndFedEx sorry man, research would tell you otherwise. As most people have been saying, drug use (cannabis being the only well researched one) can evoke schizophrenia; meaning it is correlated with schizophrenia. But with any correlation there is no way to say what caused what. It's very possible that the person was going to develop it anyways and perhaps they used drugs because of their predisposition to schizophrenia. Of course the opposite is also true, but unlikely as research tells us.

You CAN get schizophrenia from drugs. Your brain has to first have a predisposition for it but the drug can be the trigger that brings it out and makes you permanently insane. Even if you have a predisposition to it you can avoid having schizophrenia by not having too much stress in your life and NOT doing drugs. Unfortunately, there's no test to know whether or not you have latent schizophrenia so smoking lots of weed puts you at risk.

The first use of directed energy weapons can be recognized in psychiatric literature from 1908. You find it in chapter Psychiatrie-->Klinik der Narkolepsie on my homepage. During the NAZI time this concept was given up as Germany just murdered oponents. It was relaunched directly after the war to persecute and silence concentration camp survivors.

Foolish, foolish statement. It is more commonly associated with psychedelics, particularly LSD than any other drug. I myself have Hallucinogenic Persisting Perceptual Disorder from years of LSD abuse, so I know first hand just how miserable this kind of thing can be.
