must be one of those cheap ass china made lifts...i guess in china they are ok ..i mean their cars are probably only 1,200lbs ..keep china shit in china
something like this kinda happened to me when i was back in school i had my moms car on a two post lift and the smaller wire for the lower release lever snaped and the car droped like 6 in or so and as a mechanic studnet and it being my moms car my heart sank but lucky for me there was no damage and we found a way to manually lower the car but still was to close of a call.
looks like a lift failure could of been a seal failure and cused the whole system to losse preasure or a fail at a weld. Sux to be owner of that garadge i smell law suit loll
the chain broke and clearly the cocks didnt catch it io had the chain break to the hydrolics when i had a big ass cargo work truck above me it fell about 4 feet before the locks caught i about shit myself
I'm a mechanic apprentice, and every time I'm under a car I'm afraid it's gonna fall.
Alot of people don't lower the vehicles onto the safety pins, and let the hydraulics hold the car up for instead. Then one day the hydraulics fail and this happens. 90% of mechanics work unsafe because of flat rate time, they don't have the spare time to work safe because of dealership / show owners trying to get them to cut corners to make money, and this shit is the result.
@rompinray83 are you serious??? Well I don't install these and you can CLEARLY see the operator should have stopped the hoist because the van was too big. You can see the hoist lifting until the top of the van reaches the roof...it continues to lift but cannot go up anymore. That is what it caused to break. Like since you know more about these...don't they have a safety mechanism that would automatically stop it? (jam or ROOF LOL)...if not lets go into buisiness and invent it, ok?
gawd! im in ninth grade and in auto tech. we have to take a test next class where we lift 3 different cars by ourselves. What's harder? a sub or full frame?
I'm a mechanic and i always check the bolts and the condition of the lifts where i work and doing that i have found lose bolts on the lifts leaking seals i had to fix myself 4 my own safety bad bushings that disengage the safety locks and when i see this i tell someone if they don't listen i just quit the place cause this happens when the cheap ass owner don't want to pay a proffesional to install the lifts so if u encounter a cheap lift u might want to consider checking installation before use
i see why if you look closely at the ladder rack on the top of the van you see that the ladder gets squished against the roof.......thus pushing down on the life creating the accident...
stupid boy shoulda concidered the hight as a factor as long with the weight lol
that scares me!! i used to do oil changes on tons of ford ambulances and full size trucks on the rotary oil rack at one of my prior jobs and at my next job lifting full size trucks with a jank-ass old rusty rack.
i think the lift broke i own a shop and i always tell my guys don't OVERLOAD THE LIFTS work vans are usually filled with tools and parts so the van may be 5000 lbs but the load in it is another 5000
Gota look in the back of them vans or trucks for that extra weight. Damb thats not cool never happened yet after 15 years but almost lost a truck when I took off the front wheels and rotors. I didnt check under the bed cover, 40 40LBS bags of mulch, F350HD so the truck didnt sag any, I just didnt think to look, thank god for fast thinking co-workers. That save got him 2 cases of PBR!!
@sixfootjesus LOL same hear, every time im under a car if its a lift or im under a car with two jacks supporting the car, im praying that the car wont fall on me, cause that will be the end of me!!!!
@sixfootjesus im a mechanic too man, i work at a toyota dealership and we use 2 post lifts, i gotta say i agree with you in this is my worst fear, i always stop the lift as soon as the wheels come up and il try and shake the car, because if the cars gonna come down, at least it wont be on top of me, also i check the position of the ramp arms when i get it high enough to do whatever im doing with the vehicle.
looks like the left rear column utterly failed, The question is how old is this lift and did it act strange or make noise before this happend?

this is what happens when you don't do monthly hoist inspections
bboyaddicted 9 months ago 3
looks like there's a bunch of ladders on top of the van and who knows what else was inside the van adding lots more weight for the lift to support.

this is what happens when you buy a Chinese made hoist. Ratings on them are pure BS. Don't know why there aren't better regulations on the lifts.

ITS NOT A CAR! NOR DID IT FALL OFF!
2009jimmy2009 1 year ago
@2009jimmy2009 Really? The definition of a car is a motor vehicle with 4 wheels and the definition of fall is to descend.

I install these hoist the cable obviously broke then the lock on the rear right failed . This could all be avoided with an annual safety inspection.
