If you are a challenger (Marquez), to win a boxing match in a 10-point system, you must be the aggressor. For example if Pacquiao would just stay still and Marquez does not attack, Pacquiao gets the 10 and Marquez 9. In this case -----Manny(champion) was always aggressive while Marquez(challenger) waits for an attack and counters.-So even if Marquez did connect more punches he gets only 9 for being defensive and manny gets the 10 for being the attacker.

It would have been worse of a blow to boxing if Marquez won. People will look at the score cards and attack it. Pacquiao landed more punches and he was the busier fighter and he was the champion. If you are a challenger (Marquez), to win a boxing match in a 10-point system, you must be the aggressor. For example if Pacquiao would just stay still and Marquez does not attack, Pacquiao gets the 10 and Marquez 9. In this case -----Manny(champion) was always aggressive while Marquez(challenger) waits for an attack and counters.-So even if Marquez did connect more punches he gets only 9 for being defensive and manny gets the 10 for being the attacker.

I was there, at MGM arena...all the philipinos guys I met said that Marquez won...they are honorable people. Even the more fanatic said that it was a draw...the more "normal" said MP lost clearly...it is business, but as far as sport is regarded JMM is better than MP. It is better to keep the honor than to win a fraud as tonight...
