Brilliant remake of a classic, up there with John Carpenter's The Thing, The Fly, The Blob, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Hills Have Eyes, Night of the Living Dead 1990 and The Ring when it comes to remakes
I think the ending was good, because: you just have to think about the outcomes. I mean. The whole world is fucked up and theres nowere to go for the zombies dont die off. These are running zombies, you will not get past them. Think it like this: If your not inside - secure, your fin., if your not you have no chance, and that was well stated when they left the mall how hard it was to get out. So in this ending, it is suppost to represent the insecurity of doom, and rawness outside of the mall
Im a big fan of this flick Matt. I agree we could have done without the ending shots during the credits. They should have ended it like Maximum Overdrive, where they just sail off. They Baby zombie was stupid. My least favorite scene in the film. 5/5 Matt.
Not only do I like Sarah Polley and company in this flick (especially Sarah), but yeah, I agree it has lot of energy and visual style. I cannot agree with you more on the ending. I usually cut it off at the end credits LOL. But yeah this is a kick-ass remake.
The ending threw me off as well. I watched it in theatre the first time, and as I was getting up to leave the coda scenes started up and I remember thinking, "Well that sucks." I think I've even watched it once and just shut it off before that stuff, haha.
Regardless, I really enjoyed this remake as well. It takes the storyline and does it's own thing, and does it right. Great review.
Running zombies are definitely scarier than walking ones.
I had no problem with the ending because it's open ended and you can debate what happened (unless of course they decide to make a sequel, which the studio did ask the director to do), and from what I've heard the studio requested it because the original was confusing, or something like.
Love your intro to the 69 Favorite horror films special. :) Well done!
Also i loved the dotd remake and think it really captures that doomsday, end of the world feeling thats so important in zombie movies.
Im totally fine with the ending of the movie actually because is kind of a tradition in zombie movies that humans in the end basically loose. The black guy got shot in Night, they fled in the chopper in Dawn and the same for Day of the dead.

Granted, if you like "happy" endings it sucks. :)
