During World War II, Finland fought two wars against the Soviet Union: the Winter War of 1939-1940, and the Continuation War of 1941-1944 - immediately followed by the Lapland War of 1944-1945, when Finland fought the Germans to force them to withdraw from northern Finland.
I personally knew all three of them. Raija Ravell and Vera Enroth lived near Stockholm and Maire Ojonen lived in Chicago for many years. I have such fond memories of them
it's interesting that this song was popular in many different countries, even the ones that were fighting against Germany in World War II - including Britain and the USA.
According The Finnish National Audiovisual Archive's database this was filmed in 1942. First recording of Lili Marlene was made in 1939 (in Germany) but it was not a hit until 1941 or 1942.
Harmony Sisters recorded the Finnish version in 1942.

Are you sure that was in 1942? As far as I know, the Germans played it only from 1943, and theirs was the original version.

Their young voices were tuned so finely to each other. Thanks a lot to Sirri2 for posting this example.
