I was a kid once, and when I was I had this awesome toy. It was a remote controlled car, and when you pushed the "red button" this cobra would pop up and squirt water at people. Man, my sisters hated that thing haha. Anyway, to me, this, is exactly the same thing just with a little more bite. My toy never became self aware, and nor will these cobra-squirters for big boys. But honestly... what is our deficit at and how much do these things cost? Sheesh they should just tape a grenade to a Tyco RC

True, the robots would probably never get minds of thier own/freedom of thinking, but the people who control these robots are the people who think for them and there is nothing to say that these people will all have good intentions, as for the emp grenade, how to you plan to get close enough to use it? also the same company have created helicopters and planes that are just like this.. Thats a scary about of power the person controling these would have...

I hate to burst people's bubbles about EMP, but frankly, most military tech is hardened against it well enough you'd need something MUCH bigger than a grenade to disable it. think along the lines of a packing-case or smallish bomb. and that wouldn't have much effective range. your better bet would be localised radio jamming. without signals, the bot will probably be far less potent, if it works at all. alternately, it might be programmed for berserker action. killing everything that comes near

Thats an extremely naieve view on robotics. Robots wouldnt get minds of their own, everything a (conventional, non organic) robot does it has been told exactly how to do.

its that the evil men in suits dont need as many people to oppress the people, they will have a mass produced, fearless army.

usually the purpose of war is to make the opposition submit, not mass murder.

however with a robot army, there is no surrender, and total destruction is the only stop

I would say that a robot war would become a war of Economics, both sides simply pouring resources into the armies until one or another side realises it will run out first., if both sides use them. if its one side robotic, the other side not, chances are it will be a massacre from the robot side.

While i do agree that it is a bad thing to have these beasts strolling around the battlefield ripping soldiers to bits there is one thing you are missing. The world isn't what it used to be.

These things may seem like an extremely cheap tactic but they can be taken down easily by one thing: teamwork. oh... and (as dexboy said) EMP.

Also, these things will most likely be used for non-lethal takedowns 99% of the time. And they emit several really long words which mean they can be tracked easily.
