  • :) ojala hubiera seguido cantando asi ...

  • She sings good but too brightly

  • I love this version of this song and want not to listen to it in anyother version she is utterly amzaing and one of my favorites in the WORLD.

  • This girl has a lot of talent and quite a voice. Shame on you all for knocking her!

  • for all of you who criticize and criticize i dont see any of you on a freaking cd cover or standing infont of grand audiences so shut the hell up

  • It is "Pastorella" and not "Pastorrrrella"; it is "orrore" and not "orrorrrre"; it is "albore" and not "alborrrre"; it is "smari la buona via" and not "smarrrrri la buona via", "dara' ' and not "darrrra' "

Her voice is AMAZING but why did they teach her Italian so wrrrrong ???

  • @Elvisfan2k si! da vero!

  • @blahdiblah2010 Grazie!

  • I know she wasnt singing the right way, but that girl has such beautiful voice, that did over come all the imperfections she had. I still love to watch it, and let me tell you, I can be an asshole when comes to judge someone's talent lol

Like Paul Potts lol ( horrible )

  • haters...everywhere....lets see you do it....this is great!!!!

  • I like her timbre

  • yer annoying timbre...TIMBER her falls fatty

  • o god, why are people obsessed with this girl? what annoying timbre to her voice

  • @eamendo7 It's because she's so much better than all the pop singers out there. She's like a transition between pop and opera. She has actually popularized opera a great deal and for that I am grateful. I actually came to love opera through her as well and while I am definitely not a fan of her technique, but I do like her voice. She is definitely not in the class of a true opera singer though.

  • YEP ! IT'S TRUE...... thanks for the comment!

  • Besides the technique, she is pure charm....Angel voice!!! Pretty good for the COLORATURA , maybe in the future she can be compared with LILY PONS......

    Has someone listen to her?

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you Angel.

  • I love this song, I admire her for singing that beautiful at that age, wich is mine as well. I have the DVD where they show her best performances. My favoites are this song and Dream a Dream. I'm sorry that recently I haven't seen her singing this way, only pop songs (xP)

  • THANK YOU, defenderization.

  • one more thing to defenderization below: if you mean to qualify your comments then you should do so at the time of posting. if as you say "anyone can sing like that" then where are the Charlotte Church imitators? where have they been for the past nine years? we will not see another like her.

  • Bravo -well said

  • Re: comment directly below. Also, ask yourself how many people are even capable of the complete dedication necessary to sing at or near this level if their very lives depended on it. Cherish this rare gift.

  • Only a jealous, ill-informed person would say "anybody can sing like this." Literally only a tiny percentage of people who have ever lived on this planet could hope to achieve this level. Full dedication to practice can make many people competent. They will however be far from perfect and almost as distant in accomplishment from Charlotte Church.

  • Who is the composer of this aria?

  • @ila91 Rossini

  • Charlotte comes from a Semi Professional back ground and has been picking up the mic from the age of 4. Take a look at Susan Boyle, Paul Potts gone from knowhere to somewhere. If you think your ready for your first public performance just start off small and if you make a mistake then do'nt worry, every singer cocks up at some time, just keep going and who knows you may get spotted. Try auditioning for an advert, X Factor, Britains Got Talent anything that will get you noticed.

  • Anybody can sing like this. All it takes is practice, practice, practice. Find yourself a good voice coach and start from scratch. Get some understanding of what your singing about and the way too pronounce the words then make the song your own. A good knowledge of Italian and Latin helps. You also have to overcome your fear of performing infront of an audience. Even Charlotte had to have practice. Some of us are just fortunate to be naturaly gifted. Practice makes perfect.

  • @ebc123123123 I agree that there are not many that are as talented as she was, but there are many that are more talented. Renee Fleming, Sumi Jo, Ruth Ann Swensen, Lucia Popp, Beverly Sills, Edita Gruberova...... and the list goes on. She still had a very beautiful voice though!!! Sorry, just trying to find a middle ground. And certainly not anybody can sing like. The raw talent has to be there first!!!

  • wonderful...gotta love it..

  • Charlotte Church la pastorella it a new and sad sad song i can sing it all the time becuse i no what she say when she sing ittttt

    ps love it

  • And as for all the critics who say she has a terrible technique - £10million quid in the bank by the age of 16 says otherwise!

  • How did she lose her classical voice anyway? Or did she lose it? I haven't heard her sing in her classical voice for a while. Can she still sing like she used to?

  • well her technique really isnt very efficient... look at her, her voice made her sing popsongs, maybe that IS her new style but she isnt really fit for opera any more. i wonder whether she had singing lessons in the beginning.

  • Her technique was excellent for a 15 year old. And actually she was classically trained from the age of 8 with Louise Ryan in Cardiff.

  • @BlushBabyBlushBaby she has AWEFUL breathing technique...her jaw shouldn't "twitch" or whatever (it means she's not breathing correctly)

  • @grl008 BUT WE DO NOT CARE!!!! We love her voice and we enjoy listenning to her!!! If you can't enjoy her performances because of her aweful technique just GO AWAY. We don't care about her technique because we enjoy her voice ANYWAY. FINE she has aweful breathing and her jaw "twithces" and her singing technique is bad, I do not mind at all. You might think that I"m a worthless piece of ignorant crap cause I don't know much about classical singing technique, I don,t care. Fuck off, thanks.

  • @Gudulpif I was just saying....jeez I own 3 of her cds anyway!

  • @BlushBabyBlushBaby making money does not mean you have good technique

  • @BlushBabyBlushBaby According to your comical philosophy Charlotte Church is better than Carlo Broschi :)

  • @2010wieliczka Really? I don't recall implying that. But thanks anyway for your insightful, inspired comment. How long it must have taken you to think of it.

  • Everybody else is in life is allowed to try something different why should she not be? I am sure if any of you had been working since the age of 11 you might want to explore different thngs when you grew up, do something new & fresh. Give the girl a break!

  • She enjoys nights outs now and then with her mates just like any other normal teenager/young adult. She is not in the habit of knocking back 2 litres of gin before her cocoa pops of a morning. And as for the pop career - why the hell shouldn't she try a change of direction after doing the same thing for 5 years. It is ludicrous to suggest that the only reason for it is as a kind of last resort after losing her classical voice.

  • It totally hacks me off when I read on all Charlotte's videos that she has ruined her voice with bad technique, drinking, smoking etc and thats why she now sings pop. Complete and utter nonsense. She was hardly Amy "syringe" Winehouse! She briefly smoked for a maxium of 2 years around the age of 16-18ish. She does not smoke now. Continued.......

  • Wonderfull.

  • "La Pastorella delle Alpi" music by Gioachino Rossini

  • Course her voice wobbles a bit you sillies. That is because she is a child!!

A child with great musicality singing beautifully at a child's level.

She is superb for her age. Why don't you acknowledge the good things instead of focussing on negatives? Charlotte you did very well my darling!

  • Amazing

  • Regardless of her technique, her voice was pleasing and the song delightful.

  • Che italiano buffo!!! Brava però

  • Oh I think so, it could be harmful, because if you have no vibrato, it means your technique is bad. Everybody singing with bel canto technique should have a vibrato. When you use you head voice of course! I'm not speaking about popular singers, just classical. But before it seemed to me she doesn't manipulate the jaw... that vibrato makes the jaw movements... I'm quite disappointed...

  • Vibrato in sopranos is a natural occurance that develops with training. Physically creating a vibrato can definitely harmful the the vocal chords, larynx and jaw over time. Yes, she has natural talent, but the jaw should not be manipulated like that not only because it's unhealthy, but it also creates unnecessary tension which can also cause damage.

And now, only a few yeras later, Charlotte Church is a pop singer.

  • Zuzana4, I really don't know everything, all I know is that I was taught, along with my other vocally-trained friends, to never use our jaw to CREATE vibrato, because it can possibly damage our voices. There's also a matter of teaching opinion and singing technique, so honestly, one teacher might say another thing compared to a different teacher. Jaw wobbling does have the potential to be harmful to the singer if misused :)

  • that is amazing she sings with full of expressions in her face . She changes the face feelings as like lyrics and Music.

  • well i wished i knew that technique of creating jaw-shaking vibrato. i just cant do it.

  • Your jaw isn't supposed to shake! She can damage her voice that way :(

  • Wow, how is it possible? I didn't know this, I just know that jaw should be free when you use your head voice because you need it just for pronunciation, nothing else, everything you need is your head and your body, not the jaw. But I think she does nothing bad, because as far as I know the technique her technique should be then very good.

  • All I know is that the voice teachers at my school go psycho when Charlotte Church is mentioned and they all break out into a horrible jaw-wobbling reenactment. It seems that she is using her jaw-wobbling to obtain her vibrato, and if that is true, then she will have issues keeping a natural vibrato later in life. I know she sings poppy-er now in mostly chest and mixed voice, so possibly thats what happened. I dunno though :/ hope I helped.

  • Thanks for you answer, now I'm really surprised, I told many people who wrote negative comments that they're stupid, because the vibrato causes the jaw-wobbling, now I feel a bit stupid... But it's not easy for me to imagine her moving her jaw so quickly to make vibrato....

  • Thats probably because they are jealous that they cant sing anything like her.Easy to pick faults. Next time ask them to stand up live on stage and lets see their wobbles - assuming the make any sound.

  • Um...my voice teacher earned her Masters Degree in Vocal Performance at the New England Conservatory, was a finalist for the Metropolitan Opera and sings constantly with the Stockton Symphony and throughout the Bay Area. And when she does, there is a gorgeous sound, and her jaw does not wobble.

But that's not the point. I do understand what you're saying--it is incredibly easy to hear a lovely voice (Charlotte Church) and from the comfort of a computer type a few comments and pick it apart.

  • 2:14 when Charlotte sings that high C. OUCH!!!

  • WOW. jaw or no jaw.

  • ew!!! made me cringe so much I think I may need wrinkle cream. Seriously there are so many bad points you can say on this!

    a) two young for it (no wonder she damaged her voice)

    b) the tempo - terribly slow

    c) facial expressions and general performance, no comment

    d) she obviously doesn't have a clue what the words mean!

    ouch!

  • but you know, in my eyes she is an extra case, she is neither a "star" for the younger generation, comparable with a popstar, nor an opera singer... i think people can admire her voice and enjoy her personality and charisma and all she has... but shouldn't be to harsh in judging her performance... she isn't on a too serious way right now...

  • She was a child and so talented, so no need to criticize her like that unless you're better as an adult than she was at a child. Good grief!

  • very shrill and sharp on the high notes

  • I wish she stuck with the classical stuff

  • Hmm...I don't really think this was the right song for a 12-year-old to be singing, if you read the translation. lol.

  • all i know is that the title means little shepherdess, how bad an it be?

  • Really, LingLingRox? Go get the translation and see for yourself! Just because the title doesn't spell it out, doesn't mean the content isn't a little, well, grown up for a 12 year-old. I've sung it, and I know. But that's beside the point. It's not necessarily songs like these that led to her eventual vocal damage...it was likely this bad technique that went uncorrected during the crucial stages of her development. I saw it coming.

  • What the f*ck is the problem?! I see every artist(like withney houston) shaking her/his jaws like this. Charlotte sings beautifully..i don't see where she screws up:S As long as it sounds good, i cant find a reason to be naggin!

  • ye but in classical singing ur not meant to be using jaw vibrato, classical is a very technical style of music, and listeners of classical can get very picky about technique

  • suusie1987,

Jaw vibrato can be a by-product of tension. Any tension involved in the singing apparatus will lead to vocal strain/damage if prolonged. You mentioned Whitney, well, she herself had vocal damage!

Anyway, some folks don't like jaw wobbling because of purely cosmetic reasons. I find that it really gets in the way of technique.

  • Oh oke, i didnt knew all that. So actually, when they shake there jaws, they damage their voice?

  • No, not necessarily...but more often than not, it's a symptom of tension elsewhere in the voice. Now, that said, I do know at least one other soprano with a fairly successful career, a GREAT voice, and a jaw wobble -- and no vocal problems I'm aware of.

But, besides technique, it can be a cosmetic thing --it's flat out distracting -- ESPECIALLY if you're supposed to be acting! It's like having a nervous twitch on stage...That's another reason I worked so hard to get rid of mine. :-)

  • i just realised it's only for the higher notes charlotte uses jaw vibrato

  • I remember listening to her ALL THE TIME when I was younger, because my sister was obsessed. Charlotte Church was the only music allowed in the car, at times. Haha.

  • ok 2 problems one jaw vibrato!! she always did it in her classical days now she does it less.

two nm the quieter parts on bits like 0:56 i had trouble hearing the quieter notes

  • the nm is meant to be on

  • i notice that alot also..and the last leters of certain words

  • I shit on the technique

what matters is how ist SOUNDS!

    and it sounds great!

  • HORRIBLE TECHNIQUE! thats not how you make vibrato and it's not very musical!

PUTO!!!!!

  • it's not a fake vibrato. i've seen videos of her sounding like this without shaking her jaw.

  • if she is still able to sing like this, why isnt she doing it at all???

  • She wanted to write her own songs and she didn't to keep singing the same songs. she's 22, her classical voice wont mature properly till her 30s, she still has loads of time left to go back to it.

  • excelente chica, recomiendo adquirir el DVD,

    salud

  • Skills

  • i thought it was awesom she has such a powerful wee voice there

  • Although I am a big Charlotte Church fan, I am extremely disappointed in this song.. This is such a fun song and she makes it almost painful

  • oh my god... i really love her when she was small. so talented so innocent. now... she's so jaded and wild. can't quite connect the two personalities. i really wish she stayed with the sweetheart image. oh well... tsk tsk.. what a waste

  • yes it's called growing up.

  • I'm sorry, but getting drunk and going wild is not growing up.

  • I didn't say it was. I meant she was growing up, and like most teenagers, tried things out. She didn't go wild. She went out once a week (like she's said in countless interviews). Did you expect her to stay 12 forever? And are you telling me you haven't ever gotten drunk & never will?

  • She did go wild. "Sings like an angel, drink like a fish" I'm sure you have heard that before. No, I have not gotten drunk. I doubt that I will because I have and always have had much control over my consumption of alcohol. My body can handle much intake. Going wild is being immature. I still love her voice though despite that I think she ruined herself.

  • Ruined herself? Ruined this voice or her image? If you think she ruined her classical voice by getting drunk, you are quite wrong. She can still sing like this. & she doesn't drink or smoke anymore.

  • I mean that she ruined her life...well not completely... but smoking does effect your vocal cords... I don't think she can sing as well as she did then.

  • Bonito...

  • -.-

    Too slow

  • gou k lindo canta kanta

  • si se llama carlotte church en jerusalem

  • Eng...

Hi! Where did you get this vid? Does exist any convert DVD o anything else? Please, I'd like to buy it, it's so beautiful

    Span...

  • Nobody else can sing this song like this.

  • Well Charlotte Once again I think you were awesome at 13 years old AND SO SWEET awhh!!!!!

  • This was back when she was really GOOD !!!!

  • which during the frightened night the right way is lost, in my shelter you will find the fireplace come, oh passer-by the shepherdess is here, but her inner thoughts will only be given to one! Come, oh passer-by, the shepherdess is here, but her inner thoughts will only be given to one! Ah.
  • La Pastorella(English) I am the beautiful shepherdess, who descends every morning, and offers a basket full of fresh fruit and flowers. Who comes on the first harvest will have nice roses and very good pommels come to my garden. I am the beautiful shepherdess, who descends every morning, and offers a basket full of fresh fruit and flowers. Ah.
Ah.
  • Mmmmm, what a lovely song and what a fabulous voice! I am speechless! I simply can't stop listening to it over and over again! :)

  • Me too...Just like the "O Mio Babbino Caro" OMG I got stuck in that song for weeks!

  • I think people only say shes bad because her mouth makes odd and funny shapes. Its an subconscious thing, I bet.

  • Yes lol but that's her technique haha

  • Actually, that's the way your suppose to sing a song like this. Every word is over done and your mouth is going to make "odd" or "funny" shapes. The most noticable thing she does wrong is when her chin shakes--the vibrato. It isn't a true vibrato when there is a supporter influencing the sound. In this case, the supporter is her chin shaking. Still, for a thirteen year old, she has an amazing voice and I am a huge fan. It's a shame she didn't learn the proper techniques.

  • Watch one of Hayley Westenra's videos and see how effortlessly she voices her music !!

  • WOO HOO! Hayley fan here too! Tell the world about her effortless voice!

  • I've seen her sing live without her chin shaking, and her vibrato sounds the same as this.

  • Legendaryyyy

  • Beautiful......in many ways. This music keeps me from hurting people....LOL

  • im obsessed with this song and charollete....wish i could see more videos of her opera singing..shes very lovely

  • why was it terrible? she even sang better thatn the album version.

  • stop that comments...I hate you all...I love her voice...Why are you so bad? She is good, that voice is not common to all, it's all complicated to sing...well, if one of you posted a video...singing...and others posted a bad comment to you... how do you feel? happy? Please this comment will bring you a lesson...

  • Holy fuck she WAS awesome. (And I don't even like opera). Seen her lately?

  • This was when her voice was at its peak, the absolute best. Those clear head tones are stunning. However, she should not, absolutely NOT have been allowed by any rule to sing such a difficult piece (though I will confess I think it's one of her best and showcased her voice perfectly). Songs like these destroyed her voice.

  • How did these songs destroy her voice? I'm sure she can still sing the high notes if she wants to. She doesn't on her latest cds but that's probably because she changed from opera-like music to rock music.

  • A child in her early teens (like Char, who was 13 here) hasn't completed the physical development of her voice. Women's voices tend to reach full maturity around 25. Thus, Charlotte should not have been made to sing such vocally challenging songs because even though she could HIT the notes easily, hitting them wasn't good for her voice and caused adverse long-term effects. This is why professional opera singers are usually in their 30s at least.

  • But Charlotte had a vocal maturity that was way beyond her years, or so I read. I thought that meant she didn't have a problem with that.

  • The term, "vocal maturity" is rather misleading. It can mean any number of things, but I'm guessing what they meant was that she had a very big-sounding voice and a wide range, which she did. However, physical immaturity is something no child can escape at 13--you're still developing!--so she should not have been made to sing such difficult material. Imagine you at 13 singing the music she sang.

  • Don't get me wrong. I dislike Church's classical work but she had enormous talent and a beautiful, sweet voice. I blame greedy management, who saw that she could sing high and made her sing the most popular Classical pieces of today to maximize sales, which incidentally happen to be some of the most difficult pieces. Ask any Classical singing teacher: they'd be horrified at the idea of a 13-year-old attempting to sing "The Laughing Song".

  • My teacher refused to let me learn "Un Bel Di" and I was 19 at the time!

  • she was 15 here, not 13, and songs like this can't really destroy your voice... she Still can sing good and hit high notes, maybe her voice got "ruined" but maybe taht was because of cigarrettes.

  • I tottaly agree with you. I really think that if you sing over and over again since an early age I guess you can destroy your voice

  • Oh, and the good opera singers who were taught with correct technique make it look easy... i.e. Sills, Caballe, Bartoli, etc.

Yes, there are those who push their voice, but because of that, they won't have a long career.

  • I have never understood why she uses to her mouth to get vibrato. Watching her she reminds me of an amateur giving a recital. There just isn't enough strength and focus to her voice which makes her sound breathy. She's good enough to make cds and give concerts with a mic. She'd never be heard in an opera.

I don't discredit her ability to sing nicely but she could be better.

  • I love this whole concert. At this age is when Charlotte was her best.

  • Now that calls ANGEL VOICE!!!

  • This girl cannot sing-she wobbles. Listen to GRACE MOORE, DEANNA DURBIN, SUSANNA FOSTER AS A CHILD on YOU TUBE. Church has a good marketing agent. It's a joke

  • Some people are born lucky, I guess

  • How stupid are you, it's not "wobble" it's a TYPE of singing you stupid, idiot half brained zit. I don't mean that, but I am just SO furious right now, I have nowhere else to put my anger in, you idiotic puke face.

  • I think that 'wobble' was about how her jaws were trembling all the time and it's not supposed to be that way.

  • not really... that just depends on the person.

  • No, it's not "not supposed to be that way". That really depends on the person, as long as you don't hurt your vocals, it doesn't matter. Some need to "wobble, some people don't

  • love this song the most among all songs of hers

  • Nice, back when Charlotte did Opera ,she always made it look easy, not like other Opera Singer's,the other's alway's looked like they were straining to sing, that's what made Charlotte even more amazing.

  • AMAZING...lovelovelove it

    x

  • she was amazing

  • She is talented.

  • THE LORD'S PRAYER!!! PLISSSSS

  • w00t

  • i love it. her first she blasted too much but e rest is carefully contolled. can be cheekier though. lolx... but given her age she'll way beyond her counterparts when she get older...

  • Nah, it's all perfect. :D

  • what a soprano, awesome...
