The 79 was a highlight of my visit to Philadelphia in August 2000. I rode it in conjunction with dinner at the Melrose Diner. Sadly, the 29 was not running during my visit but I did check out the wires. There was some concern about visiting the area but I didn't feel unsafe although kept my camera equipment concealed.
Great video. A real shame that SEPTA refuses to run those two trackless trolley lines. And a real shame that not a single one of those A. M. General trackless trolleys was saved. Especially one of the wheelchair lift equipped coaches that sat unused, inside of Southern Depot for twenty years, with almost no mileage on them.
They were disliked by SEPTA management and maintenance people, so they were virtually brand new coaches when they were sold for scrap. My days of saving coaches was over
man i wish septa had some vintage stuff still runnin like the neoplans or those old GMC buses.the oldest buses runnin for them are those NAKI's.

Why are the front doors like normal bus dorrs but the back doors are trolley style doors..is it just for design or some other purpose?

@Mustang5Speed Design.
MUNI in San Fran has the same model but theirs were built by what is now New Flyer.

@Mustang5Speed the backdoor activated the emergency brake. so if the poles dropped the bus didnt roll while the driver fixes his poles.

There has been some talk about getting some New Flyer Trackless Trolleys for the 29 and the 79.
