Yet another mix of talent and novel musical style. Before I began watching NPR's tiny desk concerts I was really ready to give up on the modern music industry for filtering out any good musicians and pushing cut and packaged pop for tween girls and filthy rap 'music'. Although far from mainstream, since watching these tiny desk concerts I have found a diverse mix of artists still experimenting and finding completely new sounds in what seemed like a throughly exhausted music industry.
That first song: Bluegrass style lyrics and instruments....mixed with that weird and generic traditional Asian sound.... I didn't expect it to be this good. I still prefer American Bluegrass, but this was an interesting mix.
Thanks NPR for this great Tiny Desk show. The story of how Abigal Washburn was told she was not teaching folk music right reminded me of my own experience teaching in China. Ahh...good times.
her banjo is freakin' awesome

is it wrong that i associate bluegrass music with xenophobia? thats why it is shocking to me that she is so into china

@raushkanaush I believe it is, it's no different than any other sterotype that people put on other races ect..
pappymcdamnit 2 months ago
@raushkanaush It's wrong in that it is an incorrect association.

Crazy how this sounds exactly like her recording. It's good to know that her music isn't heavily over produced.

Good singing voice though, still she should just play and NOT talk.
