  • I have too much time on my hands today apparently. Anyway, for future comments regarding anything I am saying. I am not trying to 'convince' anyone about this or that. People have their opinions on this matter and they are intitled for it. I am simply expressing what I feel about it and such, I am, however, NOT trying to change anyone's opinion as couple of people seem to have believed. :)

  • Charles Hamelin won fare and square. It aint his fault of some one fell, and the person in front of him fell too. He had no controll over that, so all hater SHUT UP!

  • @Spink,

Yes, I did notice Sung original did hit a rut but as he was starting to get his balance back, that is when Hamelin made contact, and Sung fell down afterwards, so in my own opinion, due to the fact he fell immediately as Hamelin put his hand on him, he should have been DQed.

  • Oh, and to prevent any more controversy over things like this. I do hope the IOC makes new rule that the host country can not be the chief ref. if one of his/her countries are on the racers, or any country that has races on the track for that matter, especially James Hewish.

  • As far as the Olympic officials are concerned, the decision of disqualification is made by all of the referees present at any one event. These referees come from different parts of the world, and aren't solely from the host country.

  • @Eshalmamood,

Well I know the chief ref. is the one that calls the shots. I supported the fact Ohno was DQed, however, I felt that Hamelin should have been DQed as well.

  • No bitterness toward him winning it, and based ond the rules, Ohno hand was on the other guy's hip and he fell so I agree on the DQ only based on that rule alone. However, I feel that Hamelin should have been DQed as well since the contact with Sung although only slight, the result was him falling and out of the 1st place.

  • if you look closely Sung hit a rut in the ice and fell by himself, grabbing onto to Hamelin's skate, who by instinct put his hand out. I'm pretty sure that's a competitor is allowed to touch another if the latter makes any unoredicatable movements, as Sung did.

  • Sung made contact with Hamelin first. The Korean was already falling before any physical contact was made. When Sung attempted to maintain his balance, he extended his arm into Hamelin's track, and therefore committed the offence of cross tracking. He only slipped right off the ice when his extended arm made direct contact with Hamelin's skates. You can tell the Korean almost put out Hamelin' s skate, but luckily, the latter was able to maintain his momentum, and dart past the finish line.

  • @Eshalmamood, I watched the video but never saw any contact between Sung and Hamelin before Sung fell, at least enough to realy make difference during the call in question. Yes, I agree Sung had corrected himself and in the process of doing that ,Hamelin was attempting to overtake him., in which, he in fact did make contact with Sung and he was falling. He did put his hand down in attempt to try to upright him and Hamelims foot made contact..

  • your medal is undeserved! your ref's CHEATED, enjoy your tainted medals and know that in your heart you only got them because your refs were canadian, but hey you got those medals right? that's all that really matters. not INTEGRITY OR SPORTSMANSHIP!!!!!

  • Um, Hamelin finished first. There wasn't any controversy over his win. I think in your own troll-like way you're trying to refer to Ohno's disqualification which was over the other Canadian skater, who ended up getting bronze.

Don't beat yourself up though, it's a mistake any uninformed moron could make.

  • Our country won these gold medals due to hard work, intense practice, and simply fair play. Maybe you shouldn't watch the Olympics whenever it isn't hosted in your country so you could use a different, and perhaps more convincing argument next time around.

  • (continued) but I dont those contacts were intentional. However, Sung fell just as Hamelins hand made contact so therefore, I think he should have been DQed for it. As for you suggestion on watching Olympics and 'more convincing agrument' - this is not agrument at all, this is mature civilized debate. I saw the same video and base my judgment on the rules of the game. I am American but based on rules, even i felt the DQ on Ohno was justifed.

  • I just feel that Hamelim, regardless of how slight the contact was, he should have been DQed as well. I have no bitternness whatsoever, in fact, I applaud that the Canadians did as well as they did. I just think your comment regarding 'convincing agrument next time' and your not-so-friendly suggestion was little uncalled for in normal mature conversation :)
