Isaac Brock has been an inspiration to me for over 8 years now. These albums have become a part of my life that I will never forget. People don't realize that this isn't the kind of music you just listen to for fun. There is deep meaning behind these lyrics, offering insight into Isaac's own life and experiences. You listen to this music to learn about life, to learn about the person who wrote it, and to hopefully learn about yourself. I don't think I'd think quite the same had I not listened.
Sometimes I think he just means exactly what he writes and that were the ones who make it deep and/or complex. Either way this album is the deep, meditative, existential one and it is unique in this way. But I've always thought (may not be true) that Isaac only wrote a few songs on this one and that they took the lyrics from the writings of a friend or acquaintance that was or went insane? No?
@fuentcent Well, that I'm not sure about, but whether they are the words of Isaac, a friend, or both, they still seem to have a great overall meaning. I'll have to look into that tho :)
Modest Mouse is probably the most talented band of this generation you just have to be musically and intellectually inclined to understand it. For people who say their music is a bunch of "noise"..try reproducing it yourself. The definition of an amazing band to me is the music + the lyrics...you can't have one without the other and define greatness. This shit is ineffable. Issac Brock is a lyrical genius. I can only hope that one day I write so well...And yes I know my sn is original..
@mocachinomacdaddy Just because you enjoy a band that isn't that mainstream doesn't make you better than anyone else. Musical preference is subjective. Modest Mouse may be my favorite band of all time, but even a child could appreciate the music they put out. I'm sure you were pointing out his lyrical genius, which is unheard by many by the fact that they don't buy spots on the radio, therefore less mainstream. If you want to be taken seriously, you should consider acting more mature.
@codbloopz calm down, bro. im not looking "to be taken seriously" in a youtube comment. and idc what anyone says... if you cant appreciate this amazing music (not even talking about his lyrics, which are amazing) then u r dumb, musically. and if it makes u happy then i will attempt to "act more mature" in the other comments that i dont even remember posting.
@mocachinomacdaddy Like I said before, musical preference is subjective. Not everyone is going to enjoy the same music that you do, and it's difficult to appreciate music that you don't enjoy. That definately doesn't make them 'dumb'. If you live by such a self centered mindset, you're going to have a rough life
why are these guys so unknown, first time i heard this and instanltly recognise it as a master piece composition, who are these guys and why does this only have a measly 29,000 hits? probably coz it has substance and most people dont
On the What Modest Mouse song are you? applaicaton on Facebook, this is what i got. It describes me well. I love this song as well even though this is the first time i have listened to it.
the cool part is when 'Wild Pack of family dogs' comes on rightafter and wakes me up from a trance that i just got put under. i think its their best song by far
actually 3:33 to 5:40 is the dope part imo......the lyrics are about as good as any lyrics in any song ever made, and i am not a modest mouse fan boy by any stretch
One of my replies to an Iron and Wine song was actually thumbs-downed so much that my post was no longer visible because I said that I didn't like the live version of the song as much as the studio version...
Modest Mouse deserves so much more recognition
