We were still showing this filmstrip in '93 on my mission. We showed it so many times it just became a part of me. Packing around that film projector and tape player on our bike was sure a pain though.
LDS doctrines are God's truths delivered to humankind through holy prophets as they are inspired by the Holy Ghost. The primary purpose of the doctrines is to testify of the truth of Jesus Christ as the Savior of all and to help people to conform their lives to the standard of truth. I really don't know much about Scientology so I'll refrain from commenting about their beliefs but we should be sensitive to what others feel about their individual religions.
I was on my mission in Germany when this came out as part of the Church's presentation at the 1964 New York World's Fair. Yes, the narrator is Richard L. Evans. The German version was not Elder Evans, but this became a powerful tool to bring God's plan to prospective members in Germany. This film was a big deal back than and it remains a classic. I wish the Church had an official video of it on the lds.org site.
I love the surrealistic/minimalistic touches. There is an unvarnished, rough-hewn Mayberry honesty about this movie that appeals to me. Slick, high-budget productions, for me, are distracting to the truth.
Thanks for posting this! I'm no longer a member of the church, but I love stuff like this. Reminds me of my childhood. We, too, used to go watch this at the Temple Square visitors center -- usually during our annual trip to go see the Christmas lights. Fond memories, good times.
Discuss the front end of that talk. It talks abot the old fashion 60s version of Man's Search for Happiness - a classic.
When I was investigating the church it was one of the most impressive films upon my inner being! I was taken back and left in shock as to how much I tried to pinpoint that amazing and simple truth and could not until that movie bore pure undeniable testimoney to me that we lived with Heavenly Father before this life and can also return back to where we came from.
I have 3, 16mm copies of this that I found at D.I. thrift stores in good condition. My friend has the original 35mm magnetic stereo print that was shown in SLC at the Visitor's Center..
Wow, what a precious memory. How I loved this movie as a child. I can't wait to show it to my kids. When I consider when it was made, I think it's some pretty good film-making too. I'm so glad Elder Christofferson quoted it recently and prompted me to search for your post.
I'm glad you like it. I have a strong attachment to it, as well. I remember showing the filmstrip version of it on my mission and it never failed to bring the Spirit. Thanks for your comments.
THANK YOU FOR Posting this VIDEO.. I Have been trying for years to get a copy of this.. to share with my kids.. as this film has impacted my LIFE.. and the spirit it gives..

According to a conference talk recently given by Elder D. Todd Christofferson, the narrator was Elder Richard L. Evans.

Absolutely not. It is LDS theology and the message is as relevant today as it was in the 1960s (if not more so).

@drudger6666 No this is a video production from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or commonly as the Mormon Church

Where did you get the source? I would love to find a video or even 16mm, but no such luck yet.

I borrowed the video from our ward library. I don't think you can buy it anymore.
