Turks actually got this dance and term from Byzantines, Karsilamas is an exact translation of Antikrystos, the older word for the dance. It was from region of Thrace, which is amongst today Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria.
Everyone, THERE ARE SHARED MUSICAL TRADITIONS BETWEEN GREEKS AND TURKS THAT DATE BACK TO OTTOMAN TIMES. Now, who took it from whom, only the Arabs can tell :)

Well... We must admitt that you are actually learning a Turkish dance, whereas you think you are learning a Greek dance... :) The name of the dance, "karşılama" means "meeting, greeting, reception, welcome" in Turkish (i don't know, if our Greek friends are aware of the meaning of this name though)and this is a dance that is played when meeting a bridal procession in Turkey... Any way, you are right, this is a marvellous dance at the end... Enjoy...:)
hattushli - you are better off not trying pick out what is originally turkish or originally greek...the name of the dance might originate from the turkish word 'karsi', but i'm sure the people of the aegean were dancing these steps long before the turks left asia...maria, eisai yperoxh...
yes, Turks do the similar dance. karsilama in this dance is when the bride goes to her new house, the groom's relatives do this kinda dance to welcome her. although many regions have karsilama dance in their way, this way is from the south part. I would not say it belongs to Turks or Greeks since these people lived together for many centuries.
but you should accept one thing, we cannot judge the history since we did not eyewitness it. every nation has its own version of the history. you call my ancestors barbarians, nomads, etc. I will not reply these words since my ancestors tought me not to judge the history since i did not eyewitness it.
Besides, look at the funny thing, it is just a 46 seconds of video, and we don't even know each other, most probably will never know, and we are discussing over it. Anyway, I am not going to reply any more
congratulations for very clear steps... thanks
I have never learned this one before

It doesn't really matter what Karsilamas means.
I mean obviously it is a Turkish word meaning welcoming. We also have taken a lot of words from Greek language.
It really is a waste of time who took what from who.Go spend your time on other things..
