Yea... I know. That's really immature. But I just think it's funny all of the things that developers can do behind the scenes that no-one knows about in the final product.
hi, i have a great idea for a game which could make millions ;)! but dont know any about programming, so contact me if ýou wanna start a little project!
They could do that but in the end it's all about making money. Would you spend extra money just to please the small group of people who want to port or program stuff for the iPod Touch but don't want to learn the language needed to do it?
No offense but you being pissed off about the iPod Touch is stupid. Apple uses Objective-C and Objective-C++ to program their software why wouldn't they do it for their iPod Touch? I would be just as pissed off if the iPod Touch needed to be written in C++.
Well, no offense to you, but I disagree. C/++ is the industry standard. Apple forces developers to use their own proprietary language. It's the same thing as when people get pissed for having to use C# on Xbox with XNA. I refuse to believe that they couldn't also make C++ drivers or a C++ compiler for their products.
While I'm upset that I can't write something in C++ then deploy it to the iPhone/iPod Touch, it's understandable. Apple used Obj-C to write all their foundation frameworks from the mid 90's to this day. When you build an iPhone app, you link to the same frameworks in addition to UIKit.
why don't you guys go to some of these sprite sheet website's and try to find other artistist to make you character sprite sheets and background tiles these site have tons of sprite sheet's some of these artist want to make you these request they only ask that you give credit in the project that your using
You can just slice the sprites in the spritesheet (for object sprites) with colored lines that seperate each (with a color that is not already in the spritesheet)
then tell the editor to call it a sprite from a starting pos to the line boundaries.
...What? 1) Not without doing some sort of slow ass image analysis 2) Not without making the sprite a weird size that the Dreamcast and OpenGL can't texture due to adding pixels on either size 3) It would be way less efficient 4) It would be way more difficult. 5) No.
I just found your videos and spend a few hours watching them all in one night. You guys kick ass I have been telling everyone I know about your videos. You guys inspired me to get back in game programming after 1 year since I was in collage for game programming. Can't wait to watch Chapter 16 when it comes out checking every hour. Keep on keeping on and Kicking ass.
wow thesivart... GyroVorbis was right... you are for sure an AMAAAAZING developer... you are WAY better than Falco (posted to help Falco get across his sarcasm)
Instead of affecting the stats negatively ( if you are carrying an item overhead ) , just show the item one the ground next to the character during battle
i also got a team and we're programming our game in C++ and a software called Multimedia fusion 2.
anyway, your game looks real nice, i liked the 3d part- never saw that in a 2d game.
we use MMF2's built in editor to draw the graphics to our web-browser based MMORPG.
please advise us on a good software for 2d graphics?
our graphics guy is pissed in the way he currently works with MMF2's graphics editor cuz it takes him hours to complete a singel animation per direction.
I know you guys are using a tile system. How did you decide to do your smooth scrolling? Can a character stand in between tiles and his position is recorded as a pixel perfect position? Or is the smooth scrolling all done on the view programming and it just looks he can exist temporarily in between blocks?
Im guessing there IDE is MS Visual C++. Not sure what version, i need to get a better look at there IDE before i can be sure. MS Visual C++ has a built in compiler.
I seriusly can't wait till 16!!! lol.... i just want to let you guys (Falco, Chris, Peter, Marcel etc. etc.) know... that you guys are amazing! i seriously look up to you guys and i think you're great at what you do, your kinda inspiring to me... and i think you guys work hard and do a nice job at all the things that you do im going to go to your website right now and sign up :}
Just thought I'd congratulate you guys on a fine set of new videos. What I've always loved about the series (especially since chapter 12) is the enthusiasm you all have for what you do, it really comes across when you talk about the project.
That break seems to have reinvigorated all of you, and if this is anything to go by, chapter 16 is going to be something special.
Graphics Gale. There's a freeware version you can get (it's a quick google search) and though it's more limited than photoshop, it's way more targeted and allows you to focus on what you're doing a lot more easily. Pretty rad.

Get your artist to check out the pixel scene a bit. There are numerous sites out there offering advice and tutorials for this kind of game art.
I would reccomend Pixeljoint and Pixelation.
