  • LMAO. All the Chars are named "Prostitute".

Yea... I know. That's really immature. But I just think it's funny all of the things that developers can do behind the scenes that no-one knows about in the final product.

  • They could do that but in the end it's all about making money. Would you spend extra money just to please the small group of people who want to port or program stuff for the iPod Touch but don't want to learn the language needed to do it?

  • i wants to port tha game to zeh ipod touch...

  • No offense but you being pissed off about the iPod Touch is stupid. Apple uses Objective-C and Objective-C++ to program their software why wouldn't they do it for their iPod Touch? I would be just as pissed off if the iPod Touch needed to be written in C++.

  • Well, no offense to you, but I disagree. C/++ is the industry standard. Apple forces developers to use their own proprietary language. It's the same thing as when people get pissed for having to use C# on Xbox with XNA. I refuse to believe that they couldn't also make C++ drivers or a C++ compiler for their products.

  • While I'm upset that I can't write something in C++ then deploy it to the iPhone/iPod Touch, it's understandable. Apple used Obj-C to write all their foundation frameworks from the mid 90's to this day. When you build an iPhone app, you link to the same frameworks in addition to UIKit.

  • @GyroVorbis That's why XNA sucks ass.

  • @GyroVorbis only indie games use arcade and real aa games use c++ and directX9

  • It can be written in c++, it's not required, no language is required...

  • i love marcel's xbox 360 pajama pants!!!! haha :D

  • I would rather be able to spell no one. And EVERYBODY knows how to spell no one, you dipshit.

  • This is Bauce.

  • why don't you guys go to some of these sprite sheet website's and try to find other artistist to make you character sprite sheets and background tiles these site have tons of sprite sheet's some of these artist want to make you these request they only ask that you give credit in the project that your using

  • We just recruited another dedicated artist. We have new artists on our team working their asses off as I type.

  • You can just slice the sprites in the spritesheet (for object sprites) with colored lines that seperate each (with a color that is not already in the spritesheet)

then tell the editor to call it a sprite from a starting pos to the line boundaries.

    Just saying :P

  • ...What? 1) Not without doing some sort of slow ass image analysis 2) Not without making the sprite a weird size that the Dreamcast and OpenGL can't texture due to adding pixels on either size 3) It would be way less efficient 4) It would be way more difficult. 5) No.

  • Yea might have jumped too high on that one...

Now that i look at what i wrote it seems a bit... stupid.

but hey, i didn't say it was the best way :p

    grouping seems much more realistic.

  • hahahha FUCKLES NOT A PLAYABLE CHARACTER

  • Have GyroVorbis built the engine and het level editor or was it allready made by someone

  • C/++

  • But what graphic library? I'm using SDL for some game experimentation right now. =P

  • SDL/OpenGL on PC. KallistiOS on Dreamcast.

  • havent programmed in ages but this video encourged me to stap up tonight nd program a little game

  • lol nice xbox 360 pijamas!

  • I just found your videos and spend a few hours watching them all in one night. You guys kick ass I have been telling everyone I know about your videos. You guys inspired me to get back in game programming after 1 year since I was in collage for game programming. Can't wait to watch Chapter 16 when it comes out checking every hour. Keep on keeping on and Kicking ass.

  • We really appreciate that. Be expecting ch 16 next weekend, unless something horrid happens in the meantime. ;p

The art side of the project is the main hold-up atm.

  • Get your artist to check out the pixel scene a bit. There are numerous sites out there offering advice and tutorials for this kind of game art.

I would reccomend Pixeljoint and Pixelation.

  • There's an open artist position...If you're interested, or know ANYBODY who is, please spread the word. ;p

  • Hello.

Great videos :D Looking forward for more.

    Keep up the good work.

    From Kehaan

  • More videos or I'll... uhm... just more videos plz :) I like to see someone work so i don't have to.

  • come on its been 2 months. more videos MOS RAPIDO

  • This is REALLY REALLY GOOD!!!!

  • lol @ penis sprite

  • wow thesivart... GyroVorbis was right... you are for sure an AMAAAAZING developer... you are WAY better than Falco (posted to help Falco get across his sarcasm)

  • get 3d man

  • No.

  • it's not that they can't. not every game has to by 3d to be good.

  • Exactly man :)

    *Remember the old snes games*..

  • Wow, thesivart is clearly a competent and knowledgeable gamer/developer.

  • thank you!

  • I believe Mr. Girgis was being sarcastic.

  • yeah rewriting it into objective cpp is like setting your leg on fire then cutting off your arm...

  • Hypercam sucks anus! You gotta use either fraps or CamStudio.

  • Uh.. What do you think we used for this? o.o;;

  • Woop, sorry if that wasn't directed to us. ;p

  • cool - what software do you use to make the spirits , You can use hypercam to vid the computer stuff

  • what frame rate is it?

  • lol i was going to say port it to the iphone/ipod touch but it would suck reprogramming everryyyything.

  • You still making a chapter 16

  • i just realized how awesome a 2d game would be for a 3d console. 0.0 it would be completely epic rock on and keep going!

  • Instead of affecting the stats negatively ( if you are carrying an item overhead ) , just show the item one the ground next to the character during battle

  • Nah. We want it to affect the gameplay.

  • Hi GyroVorbis,

i also got a team and we're programming our game in C++ and a software called Multimedia fusion 2.

anyway, your game looks real nice, i liked the 3d part- never saw that in a 2d game.

we use MMF2's built in editor to draw the graphics to our web-browser based MMORPG.

please advise us on a good software for 2d graphics?

our graphics guy is pissed in the way he currently works with MMF2's graphics editor cuz it takes him hours to complete a singel animation per direction.

  • I know you guys are using a tile system. How did you decide to do your smooth scrolling? Can a character stand in between tiles and his position is recorded as a pixel perfect position? Or is the smooth scrolling all done on the view programming and it just looks he can exist temporarily in between blocks?

  • Wtf. Every bit of the game has true, pixel-perfect, smooth scrolling.

  • why does 16 have to be so far away =(

  • no 3D zoom required in a 2D game

  • It is in ours, bitch.

  • totally forgot

  • You guys are awesome. You need to make actual in depth tutorials, for those starting out(like myself ;) )

  • Hey just wondering, what c++ compiler do you use?

  • Im guessing there IDE is MS Visual C++. Not sure what version, i need to get a better look at there IDE before i can be sure. MS Visual C++ has a built in compiler.

  • Visual Studio 2008.

  • I seriusly can't wait till 16!!! lol.... i just want to let you guys (Falco, Chris, Peter, Marcel etc. etc.) know... that you guys are amazing! i seriously look up to you guys and i think you're great at what you do, your kinda inspiring to me... and i think you guys work hard and do a nice job at all the things that you do im going to go to your website right now and sign up :}

  • Just thought I'd congratulate you guys on a fine set of new videos. What I've always loved about the series (especially since chapter 12) is the enthusiasm you all have for what you do, it really comes across when you talk about the project.

That break seems to have reinvigorated all of you, and if this is anything to go by, chapter 16 is going to be something special.

  • Objective C/C++?

    Gah.

  • What sprite program was your artist using....Sorry, forgot his name :P

  • Graphics Gale. There's a freeware version you can get (it's a quick google search) and though it's more limited than photoshop, it's way more targeted and allows you to focus on what you're doing a lot more easily. Pretty rad.

Chris, by the way (or Dj Yoshi) :p

  • i like it. its a little teaser action... like a blind man going into a strip club :S

  • "Omg something dramatic happened" Lmao

  • damn when you said you where making a demo level I thought you meant you where actually releasing a demo of your game :(

  • how many polygons per tile? thought it would be two but for the amount of polys your count is showing.. two seems very unlikely.

  • That's pretty cool how you can have party members carry around items. That could make for some interesting puzzles.

Also, the zooming and rotation could make for some wicked boss battles! XD

  • Keep it up guys, looking more and more promising..!

One question though: What'cha buying a 300 dollar Iphone for when you're jumping off houses for 30 bucks because you're saving for a better camera?

  • ROF1! Good question. XD

As much as he 1ikes to portray himse1f as a man of wea1th and taste...The Iphone was a gift from mommy. >=P

  • Damn how bad ass would it have been to play Elysian Shadows on iPhone..... Fucking Steven Jobs!!

Fuck him and his $2000 dollar computers!

  • We love it.. :-D

  • I know , Objective C/++ wasn't a very nice surprise...

Can't wait for chap.16 ... It has to be made |8

  • zoom and rotate feature is kick ass!

  • Looking damn good guys.

  • cant wait for chapter 16

  • Man, it's really looking good! Well done, it's looking really great!

  • interesting art :)

  • Damn...I totally envy you guys. I have to hit the books but anyway great video and I'll be expecting great shit for 16!
