@ynahtres do you pay for a data plan? It should still work unless perhaps you have a firewall set up on your network? check to make sure your phone is running the newest OS available from your carrier(t-mobile or whomever)

I have tried everything and my wifi works from time to time...sometimes even being white it just wont connect...have tried everything even updating the OS and nothing seems to work..so weird...look at this crap...it is now working...in a couple of minutes it just will stop working as if it has a mind of its own...how can this be?

@roonap that usually means your wireless connection has a password. You'll have to ask whoever set up your router what the password is.

@blakspyder I would update your OS... google it. It's complex.. but not difficult to do.  It can take care of a lot of issues for the 8900.

@johnchen0213 if you are trying to access a secure wifi connection, you will need the password key to connect. It's the pin that you have set up for your wifi. If you didn't set up your wifi, ask the person who did.

@hnzk there is a symbol on your phone that says what connection it has either UMA or Edge... there is usually a wifi symbol as well and if it's white it's on... if it's greyed out it's off. I've noticed my wifi connection bumps on and off.... and if it goes off during a call my call drops :(

You are not transferring data over their network(since you're going through your Internet Provider) checking forums it looks like people are fine using the browser over wifi. The app world might go over wifi or might be using EDGE I'm not sure. I guess you'll know for sure when you get your first bill :\

@hydaku sorry don't know what else you could try. If the wifi symbol isn't turning solid b&w it's not on. the only thing I'd guess is wrong would be if you are inputting your password incorrectly.

these are networks that have encryption enabled. This means you have to know the person who set up these connections to get the password. If one of the networks is your home, whomever set that network up would have the password. You can only connect to "open" networks or networks you have permission to access.

If you bought a blackberry you should expect to pay for a dataplan(or do your homework first maybe?)...

the unlimited data plan = wifi/push email/mms.... that costs $40 a month. Lucky for me I've been locked into my BB plan since I bought one in 2006 lol so I pay $20 a month for the same data plan!

I'm pretty sure you will be charged, you should really call 611 from your t-mobile phone say customer service, technical support, and ask! I wouldn't want you to get charged a penny a kb or something. Fortunately for me I've been with a BB so long that I still get a super cheap rate for my data plan.

the BB browser has nothing to do with wifi. Wifi is a connection, bb browser uses any connection edge/gsm/uma. if you set up your phone to connect to any wifi which I think you can do, it will connect to anything when you get in range of if it's unprotected(the wifi connection) it switches between edge/gsm and wifi automatically. The strongest signal is switched to when it's found.

your mom or dad or whomever set up your router put a password on it.... find out the password, save it, and you're gold. That's what it sounds like to me.

i gots it. i actually set up the router but it told me to put a pin into the router. weird right? but i found another way. manually put the SSID and choose the security the router is on like mine was wpa-2 personal and put the pass and save it. good to go.

well that is technically the browser, it's default set up as "mobile" settings go to the browser's options and you can set it to look more like regular web pages. I use Opera Mini instead of the BB browser. You should be on WiFi if the little symbol appears on the phone's screen usually in the upper right corner

you need dsl or cable set up in your home. We use Qwest. Comcast is cable. They give you a router, that will be what you need first and foremost, then enable the wifi through its settings(check your manual or google your router model) good luck

Nope, it can pick up signals from wifi spots. Such as at the airport, various coffee shops, and at your home. It gets the signal just like a laptop would. You may be thinking of 3G where a broadband signal is output from various towers that are able to do so. This phone does not have 3G
