Honestly, Santana Day should be a nationwide holliday, this guy's done so much to help the world, and as part of WoodStock, he's part of American history! He helped shape the people of his time, as well as the musicians around him. What more could we ask for?
He's Mexican, alright. But his music is a fusion of blues/rock with Afro-Cuban & Puerto Rican inspired Latin jazz. There is no Mariachi or Tejano influence in Santana, whatsoever. His style is the least Mexican of Mexican musicians.
@Lyingassholes Thank's....I showed this vid to my sister in-law who is Puerto Rican and she told me the same thing......then she slapped me in the head and called me a dumb gringo.......LOL
i like his hats. saw him live. it was brilliant. his tone is amazing. you can't buy an amp like his unless you're a guitar God. The guy custom makes them and only sells them to the greats.
I heard that Led Zep was suppose to perform in Woodstock, it's a shame that they decline, or else it's gonna be a havoc, chaos and riot if they do. :) I miss 'em both. :(
@Khazanah They were invited, but their manager Peter Grant didn't want them to appear because he didn't think it was anything special. Ironically, they played a show not too far away in New Jersey. Doubly ironic is that Robert Plant used excerpts from the soundtrack on his song "Tie Dye on the Highway".
I have heard him talk about taking mescaline before the performance at woodstock. Just like many of these people that played woodstock maybe there was a little to much poppin going on!!
@junebianca osea q mi bombon shrieve tambien estaba drogado con razon esa carita ,pero igual un maestro y ademas no deja de haber sido un hombre increiblemente guapisimo .
Another great Mexican born musician at Woodstock was Aldolfo "Fito" de la Parra-the drummer for the blues/rock band Canned Heat. They played very well too.
I saw this yesterday I was a apolled at what he said. Anyway thats what people did at Woodstock . The Drugs finally got to Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin later in life. Both of the these people where great to follow in life and also left a mark on history as performers.
Although I can understand what Carlos is saying in recommending that musicians do not take LSD before attempting to exhibit their music, the performance at woodstock wouldn't have been the same without that influence! From my own experiences with LSD, I can say that music takes over your other senses and assumes a "physical" form, as if you could see the notes just as clearly as you hear them. It's a testament to santana's musicianship that he was able to play despite the acid!
like u said "he was able to play despite the acid" Santana is a truely remarkable musician & hes my idol also...being on LSD had nothing to do with how he performed..i have never done LSD in my life & i dont need to in order to feel the music in a physical form, how you feel the music on depends on who you are as a person not what substance you let control you..its called a natural high & i can get it w/o any "help"..music is the most powerful drug u can ever have in ur system
I think that Carlos said that "Santana", the band not the person, born in SF. Carlos never denied his mexican heritage. It's impossible when we heard his music. and he konows that. Were not a "babaca". I'm brazilian. Sorry my terrible english.
YES I AGREE HE WAS BORN IN SAN FRANCISCO....AND YES HE IS A SAN FRANCISCO NATIVE EVERY-ONE KNOWS IT..................sorry 007Bondx.......get your facts straight.....brother........now let smoke a fat one.
@shockme25159 coolest next to Danny Trejo,Sick Jacken, Vicente Fernandez,Big Duke, Pancho Villa, Emilliano Zapata, Coutemoc (both), Californian Mexicans,Jorge Negrete, The guy from the wolf man. all the Mexican Boxers I think Mexicans are some of the most under rated people.
Agreed! Thing is though, even if we could go back in time, we'd still have to then go through all the dull crap that happened in the 80's, 90's and back to now... It would be cool if the whole world embodied the spirit of Woodstock permanently.
