  • @NormKangaroo.

Isn't that Happy Hammond as well...I think you left him out...

  • NOW i know why North Melbourne hasn't won a premiership since the dawn of time...lol

  • "that's 'cause you're stupid" lol

  • treevzy, there might have been a whole host of reasons why Shirl wasn't on it. Probably just a staging and scheduling issue.

  • Used to love this show - especially that the kangaroo barracked for North. But after listening to that over and over I'm with the crow on this one. Was it too much for Shirl to show up to his own neighbourhood on this day?

  • loved this show! Miss Shirl an legend gone way to soon! fly high Shirl

  • The old copper now playing grandpa in the Sara Lee ads

  • Just love the knee ups from cleaner number 3, about 2.00 minutes in.

  • Is it just me or was today being the 10th anniversary of Shirls passing a sad day RIP Shirl Loved this show as a kid and Skyhooks as well!

  • @litlv6 I agree. Gone way too soon. He brought so much joy to so many. RIP Shirl

  • Kids sent Claude their toe nail clippings how crook and wonderful.

  • Thank you.

  • When I look at the crap that's on TV these days I always think back to Shirl's neighbourhood. Good catch by the garbo @ 2:06

  • Loved this show as a kid (heck, I even had a sweater with the characters on and a Claude the Crow stuffed toy! Wish I still had 'em. They should release these on DVD, if nothing else as a tribute to Shirl. And yeah, Claude should have a new show of his own today, I bet he'd still be a hit!

  • I Sure Claude the crow was red symonds

  • Classic Oz tv show. Loved it heaps, and yes, Claude should have his own show. Rally round punters!

  • Claude The Crow is awesome, he should have a show of his own!

  • Miss you Shirl badly ! xxxx

  • I dont remember this show, as I was young.. ( i was born in 81) but i remember this song..

  • Claude the Crow sounded like Bruce Ruxton

  • I wonder what Claude did with all the toe nail clippings he asked everyone to send into the show?

  • @canijuvo i wonder too

  • my dad showed me this clip a week ago the tune's catchy

  • This brings back memories, ahhhh....

  • OMIGOSH! A few years back I found a copy of this song on an OOOLLLLDDD cassette of mine. So old that I dared not play it again after realising this was on it for fear that my cassette player would chew it up. But here it is!! I'm 4 years old again! :)

  • Who's the guy in the overalls? And, where is Shirl??? :S

Thanks for posting this - campy fun back then was GROUSE.

    :D

  • Ahhhh you all make me SIIIIICK!!!!!

  • I like Happy Hammond

  • there was one episode where Norm was trying to eat peas off a fork....I nearly wet myself laughing....it was hilarious. Why is children's television so crap these days?

  • @dixdeborah just cause of the execs, its all about the money an ratings these days... there's so much american shit on it's not even funny - at least the ABC still runs Playschool although it's nothing like I remember back in the 90s - that was the golden age IMHO of children's TV

  • Here's onene for the over 30's. It even has Stan the Snake for ya Wardy!

  • Fantastic memories. Absolutely loved this show as a kid. I can barely wipe the smile off my face. Its a shame I can only give 5 stars. Thanks for this great post.

  • Do I see Ross Skiffington the magician in this clip???

  • I was a young teacher in Richmond when this show came out. I'd fly home to watch the program. It was bloody hilarious. Highly creative and a great on air team.

What happened to the gorgeous Liz?? And where is Shirl???

  • Comment removed

  • @bertielis Go to Graeme Strachan on wikipedia

Liz im not so sure about.

  • @bertielis Shirl was tragically killed in a helicopter accident. He was training for his licence and apparently flew into bad weather. RIP Shirl

  • @Karl0010 I can still remember the day 4KQ reported his death - I was only 6 years old sitting by the radio when I heard that he was dead.

  • Noelene Brown in the blue Claude The Crow casual knitwear?

  • No but she does look like Noelene a little bit (same hair). It's actually Auntie Mae. She used to do all the Arts & Crafts segments on the show :)

  • Fantastic, you've just won me 50 bucks!

  • Satanstepfather - Claude the crow for PM, he would show em up !

  • Claude the Crow for P.M

  • Is it just me or does the police man at 1:16 look just like Seann William Scott, one of the actors from Dude Where's My Car.

  • Two actors from Cop Shop LOL

  • Hahaha Claude the Crow is cool, BTW where's Shirl's the curl, why ain't he in the crowd singin along???

  • heh, looks like a cute show.

  • i never thought id say this but im with the crow on this one. i especially feel for him when he starts having a breakdown towards the end,the nightmarish tune repeating over and over

  • Ahem, Claude, apparently... that'd be them old Aussie accents to my Brit ears :)

  • this was grouse at the time...lol

  • Wow 1:44 Happy Hammond. (The guy far right with chequered hat). Also the young cop played by Gil Tucker...I remember shaking his hand at The Alexander Theatre at Monash Uni when I was about 11. He played Hoddle the Boddle in a kids stage show. Thanks for posting the clip....Great memories & I still think of poor old Graeme "Shirley" Strachan. A true Australian icon that has great music with Skyhooks.

  • That crow still scares the shit out of me!

  • this was 1 of my favorite's show, r.i.p sherly

  • Someone has a group of facebook and this is what lead me here. I think this is the most happiest song ever and like all of you has bought back great memories. I love the "old" australian accents. You're right, they need to release this on dvd.

  • My favourite part was always Claude's reaction to Norm's "I'd cuddle you if I could"

  • at 1:00

  • There's that little read headed bloke from Cop Shop!!! 3:08 ha ha ha! he was always going on about a "pie with sauce"

  • I did work experiance at 7 in the early 80's and worked on this show. What a pleasure, I got to work possum's tail and be one of Green Fingers hands. Shirl and the rest of the cast were great fun. Great memories.

  • That's great. I used to be involved in the show too and you're right, they were all a fantastic bunch. I also did work experience at 7 so seems we have something in common haha

  • I agree with you all. I'd love it if they released Shirl's Neighbourhood on DVD. The soundtrack and various singles and other stuff from the show pop up on ebay occasionally. I've managed to get a copy of all the music released on ebay so it's worth a hunt around. I think it was all released through Festival records. I'm so glad that so many still remember this show fondly :)

  • i really enjoy this i was just wondering if this can be purchased on cd or dvd.

  • what great memories. it brings me back to my childhood. i would love to buy dvd's of shirls n/hood, im sure my kids would love it, it is timeless.

  • I can't believe this is on You Tube I loved this show as a kid would watch it everyday after school what a great memory

  • man i loved this as a kid, i miss it so much.

  • does anybody know who sang this song who the origional singer, because i would like to get the album

  • A cheerful trip down memory lane to see something that I remembered as a child growing up. Possibly Channel 7 should make provide an avenue where the viewers can make requests that could be downloaded at a small price.

  • Agree with Farronfox. Claude the crow FTW.

    R.I.P Sherl the curl.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this! I loved this show. I wish they could put it back on as re-runs.

  • Or if re-runs can't be done then they should just release it all on DVD. Or even better.. do both! :D

  • I agree :-)

  • Aaaaaaah.....You all make me sick!!!!! love it

classie aussie stuff. great childhood memories loved this song.. which it made the charts

  • they should sell every episode on dvd now.

  • Is Happy Hammond still alive?

  • Aww you all make me sick. lmfao. Go Claude the Crow, you so rocked back then.

  • Gil Tucker looks a bit like Stiffler !!!

  • Gil Tucker Rocks~!

  • Thanks for posting ... loved it .. have not seen since 1981 !!! remember singing it in grade 2 ... Didn't remember the Cop Shop officers in it though ... I think this was where Channel 7 annoying constant cross promoting must have started ...

  • This show was just so awesome and i have never forgotten it..wow this is so great..go claud the crow!! haha

  • totally agree- and not for the better

  • I loved this show. Used to watch it in Kinder. What a great song, need this kinda spirit these days.

  • Yeah you're right. Kids TV these days has lost the fun

  • One of my fav shows as a kid. Good ol shirl, god bless his soul

  • Is this really you Norm? I am in the song!!Pink shirt! I did art and craft....Kathy Hoppyfitzwallop I think was my name on the show. WOW!!Very Funny, very old!! I ran into R.B. last week and he said to take a look. Would love to hear from you...Kathy Hopper. Now James.

  • Hi Kathy, No I'm not Norm, just a fan from the show. I too appearted on the show quite a few times and remember you. Glad you liked the clip

  • Goodness me, this is a blast from the past. Used to watch this show everyday in my last couple of years of high school, I wasn't the only one that did either. My favorite was Claude. The vocalists singing this song were also very popular at around about that time for commercials as well. Dora the Devondale cow springs to mind. Anybody know who they were or what ad agency they were associated with? Thanks for putting this up.

  • Fair enough, i didn't mean to be controversial or start a big debate, i was, as i said, posting what a friend of mine told me about him.

  • I remember that show. Heard that Shirl could be a nasty piece of work in real life.

  • You're the tool mate, i'm just passing on info i got from a friend who came across him in suburban Melbourne on one occasion, and had a bad experience with him. Get over yourself!!

  • OMG <3 i used to race home from school to watch this show ... happy memories thanks Norm

  • Wonderful childhood memories - thank you for posting !!

  • Your welcome mate

  • I was born mid 70s, don't remember this show, when was it on??

  • Comment removed

  • Don't forget it was on during the late 70's too

  • mate the show aired from 78 to 83. It used to be on after we walked home after school. Unfortunately they dont' air programs like this anymore.

I hope you do realise that TV as you knew it in the 80's and 90's is dead now. To see it back you need to contact the ABC in your capital area...GPO Box 9994...in the capitol ciyt you reside in and tell them what you want to see on air

  • hi I remember this now, my 4yr olds watched it with me and loved it. Does anyone else think the possum and kangaroo look a lot like poss and russell from the Hooley Dooleys?

  • Sorry, but that was disturbing. That song kills me.

  • at least claude the crow got the last word

  • Gil Tucker? I thought it was a young Wayne Hope. Fair enough though.

  • Who plays the older cop?

  • The older cop is played by Terry Norris. FYI the younger one is played by Gil Tucker. They were both on "Cop Shop".

  • i gotta admit i was one of those kids that sent in a bandaid.

  • Thanks, No one believes me that this song exists, It's great to relive childhood memories of shirl and the gang.

  • You're welcome bp0177. Cherish those childhood memories :-) You gotta agree the show was a cut above the rest.

  • This is great, I have never forgotten this song and was looking for it on youtube earlier on this year. Thanks for sharing it. Claude still rocks!

  • Can anyone tell me who played Liz?

  • Hiya Dodge,

"Liz" was played by Liz Rule

  • None of my friends remember this! I had the record. Ah, thanks for the fabulous memories...

  • always love the theme song to this show.

reckon we made some damn good tv themes back then.

love to get a full 'single' copy of this on cd.

who was the chick in pink in the background at 2:50 mark ?

  • Possum sounds like John Howard

  • Claude, what a star. ha ha, ah memories..

  • I used to love how Claude used to collect toenail/fingernail clippings and used band-aids and kids used to send them in to him.

Imagine what would happen if that happened on a kids TV these days!

  • Claude the Crow sounds like the murderer from Wolf Creek

  • i loved that old crow ,'no i don't'

  • Liz goes alright!

  • This is just amazing! Great Aussie song, fantastic show from my childhood. I'd love someone to post the opening credits to "Catch Us If You Can".
