  • The Nikon D7000 + Nikon 24-70 F2.8 Good Matching . I am looking for the new Nikon D800 (will be) instead of Nikon D700 ( I love the Nikon D700 but it is too old and can not find It in my country)

Give me your advice go with the 24-70 F2.8 or prime lens ( I shoot wedding )

    Thank you for your time

  • @Remoporsche Sorry for the late reply. Now the D800 is out, you can make a better decision on it since the specs are out to compare to a D700. Id always say get the upgraded gear. In this situation, I thought Id be selling my D700s but it looks like Ill be keeping them only because it will now be discontinued and the ability to shoot great in low light will only be available if you have a D4, D3s, D700. For lenses, Id suggest zooms for the ceremony to avoid be obtrusive. Hope this helps

  • Hi. I want to be your friend :) you give great suggestions :) keep it up my man!

  • Great info! I have a question- is the two ring 80-200mm 2.8 sharp wide open? One time I have the push and pull version but it was soft from 150-200mm making it useless for my work. Thanks!

  • @prmass1 If your shooting 150-200mm most of the time, Id highly recommend going with the 70-200 VR instead. For me, I find it hard holding a 135mm still without VR therefore making a lot of shots unusable. Hope this helps.

  • @DMGFotos

hi Darren, since you own both which do you prefer more the tamron 29-75mm or the nikon 24-85mm..thank for the great vid.

  • @dukoduli Tamron is sharper but the 24-85 is more versatile. It acts like a macro as well with the macro switch. The Tamron is a little better in my opinion.

  • Good tips! Thanks!

  • Darwin which would you recommend the 24-70 or the 70-200?

  • @badmintonfool Depends what you are shooting and what body. 24-70 great for indoors. 70-200 VR great for outdoors and portraits. This of course is speaking on FX terms. DX, the 70-200mm may be a little long.

  • Thank you for info's.

  • I thought you used a tamron as your back up to the 24-70?

  • @SaDScO I switched to the Nikon 24-85 f2.4 - 4.0. It has the Macro switch so I can use it as a back up macro as well.

  • Great advice, especially about having backups.

  • Fab video- like your gear very much !) will need to check out your site to see your pics .

  • I shot one wedding, just for my aunt and uncle. It wasn't enjoyable for me. I had scoped out areas around the church I wanted to do some portraits and group shots, etc. Everyone was on board with that. Then my uncle showed up 2 hours behind schedule.. Nothing went according to plan and I was rushed into producing run of the mill images that I'm not even proud of. Then to top it off the preacher rudely told me to stand at the back of the church during the actual service with no zoom. Never again.

  • @sictransitmurph Sorry to hear about your experience. Weddings are not for everyone. It can get stressful and really challenging trying to make sure you cover everything in a short period of time. On top of that, you have to worry about your equipment and camera settings while making sure you dont miss a thing. Hope your next experience is better.

  • Hey man! Great video! Congrats. Very helpful. Ive got a question For you. I want a fast telephoto lens and i cannot afford the 70-200 vrii. I was planning to get the 80-200 on a d7000. Im not proffesional but i Work sometimes as support photogrpher For weddings, and events. Do you think i can get decent images with that optic? Thank u so much in advance man! And keep posting cool stuff just like so far!

  • @eldoctorgonzo 80-200 is a good lens. even the sigma branded 70-200mm should work just fine until you can upgrade later. Also, do consider the Nikon 70-200mm Version 1 which should be priced decent for a used one.

  • Hey Darwin, which lens would you say is more sharper, the 24-70mm or the 70-200mm??

  • @markyyyrestua my opinion...the 70-200 VRII

  • hi bro i'm darwin also. anyway i have d7000 and i want to change to d700 for your own opinion which is good for you? do i need to buy d700 or lens for the d7000?

what is your nationality? you look like philam. hoping you can help me, like what u did you other thank God Bless...

  • @darbats Hey Darwin. It depends on what you will be doing with the camera. For leisure and hobby, the D7000 is plenty of camera. If you are going into weddings full time, then you would want to upgrade to a full frame body. if you decide to upgrade to full frame, you would want full frame lenses or you would just be wasting and not fully utilizing the features of a Full Frame camera. Hope this helps.

  • Great video.

  • I have a Nikon D7000 and I'm looking for a 17-55mm 2.8. Some say Sigma 17-50mm 2.8 is better then the Nikkor 17-55mm 2.8. Can you help me? Thank you

  • Great Video, but i have a problem buddy i already have a d5000 had it for 3 month now. i have my first wedding coming up in 2 month will the d5000 do the job and what lens

  • @vinnymacthekiller thanks for the comment. The D5000 is a good camera, but if you are going to put it through some abuse, be careful it might not be as sturdy and built like a D90, D7000, D300s, D700. Combined with a few good lenses, you may get away with it once or twice, but Id highly recommend stepping up to at least a D90. For me, Id only use the D5000 if both my D700's and my D7000 fail. Lenses: The Nikkors are best, but the alternates I mentioned will do fine.

  • Great video, but here my problem I already have a d5000 and I'm shooting my first wedding in 2 month in a church. Is that good enough if u on a budget and what lens to use with the d5000 to get great shots

  • Darwing,

Im upgrading my body, but I was wondering why you prefer D700 over D3s or D3x?

im kinda leaning for the D700 for the money But I'd like to know why you chose that body over the other ones.

    thanks again.

  • @TheJcbravo Id love to have a D3s but invested in lenses first and figured the D700 was sufficient to get the job done which it is. I then just never upgraded the body and just invested in other things like lens upgrades, computers, softwares, ect. But if I had a choice, Id go with a D3x / D3s combo or D3s / D700 instead of two D700s. For me, the body is important but lenses are first priority. Hope this helps.

  • @DMGFotos You mentioned computers and software...if you were on a budget say $3500 which combination of computer//software/camera/lens would you recommend for wedding photography?

  • @iFloridaAllStar Id go like this: Used D700 $1800, Used Nikon 24-85 f2.8 - 4.0 Macro $300, Used Nikon 80-200 f2.8 $700, SB600 flash $200 and Windows 7 PC w NX2 $500. You may get by with this set up for 3 weddings or so then you can start upgrading. With the set up above, you might go a little over $3500.

  • Hey Darwing I was wondering why did you go for the D700 instead of the D3s ??

I'm about to upgrade my body and I want to invest in a body that I can relay on.

But I wanted to see your opinion.

    Thank you.

    Much respect.

  • @TheJcbravo Price for D3s a little too much for me...at the time at least. Ive had problems with the D700 so if you can go with the D3s, go for it.

  • thanks! that's very useful!

  • Hi I have a question do you use strobe or reflector for all your pre wedding shot that i seen in your site?

  • @gogglez76 some natural light and some with a SB900 w/ Gary Fong Spheres.

  • Just wondering what kind of bracket you have on the bottom of your camera?

  • @fdwarren0529 its a Spider Holster Bracket.

  • What is the bracket on the bottom of your camera?

  • @fdwarren0529 its a Spider Holster Bracket.

  • i noticed at the bottom of your grip your have a metal plate what brand is it?

  • @TheJcbravo Its a Spider Holster Bracket.

  • Thanks for the useful info. I am on a very tight start-up budget, and would take at least one year to own a FX body, an UWA and mid-zoom lens at the same time. Would you recommend using the 17-35mm and 28-70mm f/2.8 lenses since one can get both for the price of a new 14-24mm or 24-70mm nowadays? Thanks.

  • @geonlansis 17-35MM & 28-70mm is a decent set up even if they are used. ON FX, you ll use the 28-70mm more if you are doing events or wedding photography.

  • how did u do your strap like that

  • how's the working distance of 105mm f2.8 on a DX body if I use it for portraits? Is it convenient?

  • @5851 Its bit too long...

  • Great Video

  • amazing work!! thank you for sharing that with us, will look for more videos like this in the future.

  • @SL848 Thanks for the comment regarding my work!

  • Thank you from Spain! I'm considering to do wedding photography and this video is very useful.

Don't you use pocket wizards for the outdoor photography?

Another thing: Don't you consider to have a FX body like D700 and a DX body like D300s or D7000?

  • @rendear Greetings Rendear! Glad to know Im able to help. I dont use pocket wizards at all. For bodies, I do use a D700 and D7000 combo sometimes, or D700 w/ wide angle (24-70mm) and another D700 with 85mm, 135mm or the 70-200mm. My 2nd shooter would then use the D7000 if I have both FX bodies.

  • Thank you from Spain! I'm considering to do wedding photography and this video is very useful.

¿Don't you use pocket wizards for the outdoor photography?

  • @rendear Glad this vid was able to help you. I do not use pocket wizards for outdoors.

  • your stuff are expensive, very nice

  • excellent video pare. like you, I also use the Nikon D700 and 14-24mm and 24-70mm 2.8 for weddings and events that requires no flash.

  • Thanks for sharing! Was referred by a friend.

  • @LisaChuPhotography Thanks for stopping by! Checked out your site and facebook page....BEAUTIFUL WORK!

  • Luxury is nice!!!!!!!!!. send me your address to send you a video of my last photo shoot with those lenses so I can get your comments.

  • Thanks for your answer.

I was very surprise you didn't mention the 85 mm 1.4 in this segment..... very difficult to beat for portraits.

  • @davidabr1964 Agree, the 85mm 1.4 is great for portraits and nice to have. But, more of a luxury lens than a "must have" for weddings especially if you have one of the 2.8 telephotos. Id say it would by my #4 lens to invest in. Of course, thats just my opinion .

  • What are your thoughts abut the new D7000? it has a great ISO?

  • @davidabr1964 The D7000 being a very good camera, I still would pick a D700 as a primary. it makes an excellent 2nd body, but I still like the results I get from the D700. The D700's proven track record under some harsh testing environments, low light situations makes it a hard camera to beat. The D7000 however is an excellent camera for the price, but still not as good as the D700.

  • Great video. Keep em' coming.

  • If only I had the cash.

    Cheers for the videos..
