  • i jizzed myself when you played the part after the emaj7th chord

  • ur amazing

  • 3:17, Its just so magical, sounds so SO sweet!

  • when I do the B chord my e string is muted because of my palm will I be able to get it if I keep practising it?

  • @MrDDool1 I had that too, you need more finger strentgh and/or repositioning of your hendrix grip. Try to play it without the thumb over as a little F and then move around. Took me a few hours to get the right position aswell.

Justin makes it look so easy but its really hard :x

  • @komani86 alright thanks I appreciate it ;)

  • saol dostum :)

  • thx maaannn

you are the best teacher that i've found for this song!!

    :)

  • really cool lesson but I don't understand the first chord you play..

  • Fuuuuck, this is taking me forever to get right!

  • Comment removed

  • cool lesson, sounds perfect

  • Can you guys use this Hendrix grip on an acoustic? I've been trying for a while now and it seems like its impossible to reach.

  • @natep513 yes you can I have been using it for years now

  • Thanks Justin, your the best teacher on youtube.

  • @ArsonComplex no, in the world...... cuz he actually teaches us things that we can use in the real world

  • @jcIsInURHouse indeed

  • Where do i learn the barre chords???? I looked at the website but its not there!!!!!!!!!!

    PLEASE RESPOND

  • 2:38 lol.........fingering should be obvious! i know, right?!?

  • That was played awesomely man

  • Justin your the best!!!

and u all shut up with your stupid tabs!

if u want tabs search on google .... tab wtf is so hard?

  • I was wondering.. can you play the hedrix style part while blocking the strings with the whole finger (without the thumb).

If the thumb blocking style is necessary for this song, can you explain how do I master it ? Cause I find it hard to press the two upper strings.

    Thanks !

  • @EmTheBestRapper You can mute the A string with your thumb for this song. Really, you don't even need the low E string for this part of the song to sound good. The main reason for using the thumb-over technique here is that it puts your other fingers in a much better position for the trills, hammer-ons, and pull/flick-offs. It can be done with the full index finger barre but it's awkward and you end up with the A string muted anyways. Learn it thumb-over but don't worry about bass note clarity.

  • Can u please up load the tabs to ur site????

  • i cant find the tab in youre web site!

  • This song just becomes more and more perfect as I play it.

  • Hey, what effects are you you using?

  • why do i have to play the chords so weird with the thum?

  • hi i'm struggling with the hendrix style here ... i'm doing the regular b chrod(not with the thumb) at 4:51 how can i hammer on/pull off the chords?

    thanks!

  • @MrLolhaha100 You can hammer on pull off with the pinkie

  • that is a fender jaguar???....

  • sounds great man, thanks alot!!:)

  • oh man why is my thump so short....

  • To recreate that "happy accident" strike the EM7 and let it ring. Being careful not to mute the string, slide your second finger back toward the 7th fret and gradually roll the tip away from the 8th fret. This creates a fret 'buzz', as the vibrating string begins to lift off of the 8th fret. Ordinarily, you would try to avoid fret buzz, by holding your ring finger down firmly, directly behind the 8th fret. Here, you do the opposite. Moving way back from the fret and easing off the pressure.

  • man rly hard do play it the intro ok but thath one damm...

  • I need a freakin’ Jaguar. If someone mistakes that for a car, I guess that's cool too. Lol. Or a cat, for that matter.

  • i take it back. i just watched the video. i think ill play in c anyway. u should try q.o.t.s.a. noone knows with an open dminor tuning. low string and twelfth fret for next two, and 14 12 pull off for g string.

  • did u ever think they play it with a clamp on the second fret, or tune up? i hear ringing open strings. its like tryin to transpose s.r.v. in e flat. he just tunes down.

  • Very very good thanks a ton

  • good job thx

  • great lesson justin. As always.

  • Can you get classical guitars with a thin neck, so you can do the thumb over the top thing? I have three guitars and only my steel string acoustic can do that, but it's quite heavy, and this song seems like a campfire song? x

  • @KrishValiente you can but if you want to do that just get an electric good nylons cost like 1k

  • thanks:)

    noel

  • I've deleted some comments - can you all calm down and just be cool with each other. If I play it exactly right or not is no reason to start being real abusive to each other - so please be cool cats and remember...

It's only a guitar lesson dudes!! Lets keep it in perspective!!

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs hey Justin i wonder if u could tell us what amp settings did u use for this song since I can't make it to sound as close to original as u do even if i play all notes correctly. Also, did u use a bit of overdrive here?

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs that's how you spell it!!!

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs Either way, sounds great to me :)

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs I think you misread fletcher's comment. I would be upset too if he said what I think you thought he said... Anyway, thanks for this great tutorial. I took your recommendation from your site and tried to transcribe it as best as possible but some parts of this song are just way beyond my skill. Thanks again for helping everyone. I see good karma in your life.

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs Sorry but not everyone has their ears fine tuned to the guitar, and you just play through the song at 6:40, not 'explain' like I said in my comment..

  • @Fletcher4256 Imo u can see exactly what he's doing when he shows the right hand. Moreover for me it would be a waste of time if he explained everything step by step since this song is not for beginners and most guys here can figure out this 2 notes which he doesn't show (especially if he doesn't even change chord shape so all u have to do is to find right notes...)

  • this is a great lessonb man!

  • @GerySk8 except he plays almost everything wrong =L

  • @Tomahawkz1000 really?? please enlighten me with your brilliance and tell me in what way this is wrong?

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs i didnt meen to be a bit of a dick. On the main riff you play it wrong, but you are still a good teacher =) and i love your cant stop lesson. if you would like to be enlightened just watch john frusciantes lesson.

  • @Tomahawkz1000

lol dude its exactly the same as frusciante plays. If u can't say exactly what's wrong and u can just trash talk then just stfu u little piece of crap. Use your ears and after a bit of listening u will realise that Justin's version is 100% correct (however, shame that you didnt show us 3rd verse Justin since its a bit different than the 2nd one)

  • awesome lesson specially on the details part dude congrats!

  • Great lesson, thanks mate

  • you are a great teacher !

  • Hard to play that riff as cleanly as you do......amazing lesson and amazing song though

  • thank you for actually teaching the way frusciante plays it. i see so many lessons of this song and ur the first one that done it right. i learned it from one guy and then i watched the john frusciante lesson and i realized that that dude was way off. the way i see it. if u dont know how to play it, u dont need to teach it. good lesson. thanks alot. ive been wanting to play this song since i was like 14 when it came out. and with a little bit of practice, i will do just that. peace.

  • keep muting the high e string so annoying!

  • 240p we meet again

  • Awesome video you finally showed me the little trill i was missing and every other video just ignores! youre a legend. but hey would you mind doing a video with all the little different verse details? its such a nice song it deserves full attention i think ;D

  • Thanks a lot! Got this nailed now.

  • Once again it happens. I got a guitar question and Justin solves it. You are an amazing source of inspiration !!!

  • you absolutely rock for ever and ever! thank you sooo much dude~!

    You are officially AWESOME!

  • god damned i love u :D thank you for this guide !

  • I have such trouble playing this as clean as you and frusciante do.... =/

  • WTF DO YOU DO AT 5:08 YOU DONT EXPLAIN HOW YOU SHOULD GO ABOUT STRUMMING IT

  • @Fletcher4256

I'm pretty sure you slide your ring finger 9th fret to 11th on string 4, then use your index finger to bar strings 2 and 3 on the 9th fret. then play your ring finger again and then the two notes on your index finger. I didn't explain it that well, but you get the point :)

  • Well done explaining what you did at 5:08 with what strings to play

  • this foo is to fast!

  • i was a happy accident ;)

  • You need to mute that high E on most of those chords. Other than that, perfect. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE VERSE.

  • @MrPickles59 I'm confused as to whether he hits the A string and the low E for the verse. Or is he just strumming 4 thinnest strings I'm not used to holding barre chords that way.

  • @1091Floyd21 I'm pretty sure that in the verse, when he hits the solid chords without pulling off or anything, he's hitting the A, D, G, and B strings. When he pulls off on the B chord (after the E chord in the verse), he keeps his ring finger on the ninth fret of the A string, but moves his pinkie so that he can hit that hammer on/pull off. So like this, I think:

    Al 9

    Dlx

    Gl8h9p8

    Bl7

Sorry if that's a horrible tab, I've never done one before.

  • Thanks!!!! :)

  • Best lesson you can get for this song!!! Thanks Justin :D

  • Nice lesson

but its not how John plays it

theres a vid of John showing how he plays it on youtube

and it is a lil diff

but if it sounds right i guess it dont matter

  • @ChicagoEnoughSaid he plays it different all the time so the only real reference is the music video

  • @xxxnickrhxxx very true

  • i tabbed this song out on my own watching this has made me realise i did it so differently >< god dammat i cba to relearn it but this guy rocks he knows his shizzle

  • damn, thank you for this!!

  • Great lesson, but darn that rythm is haaaaard...

  • you fcking rock

  • ok...do u like it? then make ur donation to the cause!!! i made mine...visit web site, bunch of lessons and vids, see u there.....

  • sometimes I think you play this song better than frusciante (just kidding xD)

  • to do a good guitar lesson, you don't need just to know the music, you need to know how to teach. I think you're the best guitar teacher from youtube

  • Hi i lik eyour videos, can you maka a video with the chords the you make ?? (0:57)

  • Awesome job bud! You make it soo much easier to learn!

  • Fender Mustang !

  • you are a legend. Thanks for all your help!

  • instead of using those other shapes for the chords cant u just use the normal bar chord shapes for the verse??

  • @adhirajdevdogra Was wondering the same thing. This seems a little overcomplicated. Maybe it's easier that way for most people, not for me though, i can't stretch my thumb over the top of the neck with that C shape! :P

  • @Errelsoft It makes it more authentic. And like the a string in second chord is like muted. when played with a normal chord it doesn't sound the same way john plays it. But im sure it you were to play it with normal bar chords no one would really notice lol

  • @bigboobz I expect you would :P

  • you're the best teacher!

  • awesome lesson thanks for sharing man

  • Lol, H chord? are you german? :P

  • what if my thumb is like to small to go over the two strings anyone know like any good excercises to learn and make my thumb stretch that far?

  • Good teacher, just wish you would shut up and just show the technique and not start rambling about some topic.

  • great teacher :)

  • wow i love ur site too

  • great job it helped me a lot !!!

  • @watajubb clean your ears out

  • Kurt Cobain had a mustang, not a jaguar

  • @donotadheretosilence He had several Jaguars and a Jagstang aswell.

  • @donotadheretosilence

He had a Mustang, and also a Jaguar. He liked both, and that's why Fender designed especially for him > the Jagstang.

  • john frusciante is awesome love his style

  • do i have to use the thumb for the chords or can i just bar it with my first finger?

  • i love your singing :D

  • great, thanks :D

  • i find it difficult to hold the bass chord with the thumb on the henrix like riffs/chords. is it absolutely necesary? im trying to figure out why not just play it in a standard bar.

  • @tripledouble74

The way I've always been taught is nothing is 100% necessary, and do whatever works for you. If you can play the song using a normal bar, do it. He plays with his thumb over the top because that's what was easier for him.

  • @tripledouble74 you can use the standard barre chords but the point of the "hendrix style" is to give you more freedom with your pinky and ring finger. When in the standard barre form you have less flexability to move around. To really nail those little fills i'd recommend learning it this way.Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam is the same concept.

  • kudos to justin!!

  • thx man now i now how to play this song thanks to you and you play very good greatings from holland

  • a lot of memories came back with this video...i start learning this song while i was still learnig guitar!!and it was a hell to me,but this guy help me a lot!!!thnk you justin for all the nice times!!now i can play this song, and im very happy!

  • Hey does any one know what john sets his tone nobs to on his strats? i know he likes to use the neck pick ups sometimes to.

  • Sensational!!!!!! Can't thank you enough. Been struggling with the verse for ages. Now have it nailed.

  • very good vid..learning this all from you in like 10 min

  • i cant fint the tab for this on your site can yu help me out?

  • thank you

  • Damn this is a hard song and a Super-great lesson!

  • i'm confused at 4:00

does he not press on the A string? do you have to mute it if you're goin thumb style? or whats the deal with tthat?

  • @OmnipotentO I was wondering about that too... Is he muting it?

  • @lospepes14 He's muting the A string with the thumb

  • u rule...BRO.....

  • im trying to learn this on classical guitar haha its hard az caus the necks so thick but ill stick at it

  • by the way you dont have tabs anymore

  • Dude you straight up rock with your lessons. You explain things so well in your lessons . I like that the fact that you dont explain every chord shape. Lotsa of lessons on here are 10 minutes long and explain one lick with 7 minutes of that explaining how to play a C#m shape. Great lessons . Im subscribing

  • kurt cobain had that guitar

  • @SandmanJAAE Curt Sux!

  • @meniver its Kurt and you fuckin suck you homo

  • @HighNflY Curt/Kurt - Nvmd, he still sux...

  • @merocket Im not like the biggest nirvana fan there not even in my top ten, but you have to respect him and his music, none of us here will probably ever do what he did and thats why I replied because whether you like him or not you have to respect him, especially if your a musician anyways this is chili peppers so enough with kurt I just couldnt let the dumbass flame him.

  • Comment removed

  • @SandmanJAAE has that guitar, hes not dead, hes hiding out in the caribbean..

  • @xquickstrykex heyy i live in the caribbean, i hope i run into him then, thanks for letting me know ;)

  • @SandmanJAAE take pictures :)

  • @SandmanJAAE so did Frusciante when he played Under the Bridge

  • @SandmanJAAE cobain had a guitar similar but he put seymour duncan humbuckers in his and that really doesnt have to do with the chili peppers

  • @SandmanJAAE

And John Frusciante also did. In fact he still has one, because he always had one, since he recorded Blood sugar Sex magik, and guess what, he recorded under the bridge with it!!! :O

  • @SandmanJAAE Yes but kurt couldn't play it like John or Justin.

  • @SandmanJAAE

I really hope he didn't smash that one
