Heifetz the master...the legend. :') I wish you were still alive. :( My number one favorite, the greatest of them all.He was one who always made you gape in total awe.Every performance was perfection.I would have killed to see him perform.I can tell you I would have broken down and cried at the end if that ever happened.Even now, just watching him in this recording...I get all teary in admiration.Rest in peace, maestro!Only the Gods are a worthy audience for you.
what Heifetz is able to do musically and technically here would score all 10's in the Olympics, and something extra, beyond what we would think was humanly possible, that makes him an invincible super hero of the violin.
@glenngrabcello ahahah! Thanks. - Oh, I watched the entire movie. The best scene is the fiddle crash one, when the father's boy doesn't want the kid study music.
@Methotrexat3 ...I'm a cellist from LA. I know many of the musicians in the kids' orchestra(the Peter Merenblum Youth Orchestra)...quite a few of them went on to be professionals....I've also heard Heifetz in live concert 5 times...nobody was or is even close...sorry about the smart ass remark...the conductor of the pro orchestra is Alfred Newman...
I wanted everyone to know that this COMPLETE MOVIE is available on AOL (It's actually Truveo). You can see the Maestro up close, the fingerings, everything. Good sound quality, too
This is the favorite part of one of my favorite movies, and I appreciate you posting this, because my video of it was ruined and I can't afford a replacement. And I like the dialogue, because it captures the difference in people -- one person is enraptured by it and the other says "this is awful" and leaves. Besides, although Jascha Heifetz was featured in the film, it wasn't a film about him, but about the boys and the school.
@5furries The story was just an excuse to showcase Heifetz's talents.
The adult musicians here are faking it: better (and more expensive) musicians were used for the actual recording.
The kids in the movie were from the Peter Meremblum (youth) orchestra, and they performed their own music, although again, they're "faking it" in the film, playing over what their full orchestra performed in a studio environment.
Thanks for posting this! This is the best quality posting of this clip I've seen so far. I think the camera work is excellent here, you get to see so many different angles and they're focused on his hands, unlike many other videos of violinists that just focus on their face... I hate that. My only complaint about this video is the dialogue interrupting the music and the other pointless shots of audience members.
Hi- in music films of this era, and in fact of most eras, the audio is recorded first and superimposed on the film. So unless the film editing is extremely careful, you will find moments when they don't line up
Heifeitz!? HOW DID YOU VIBRATO WITHOUT THE USING OF SHOULDER REST!?!?!? HOW IN GODS NAME!?

Heifetz is amazing....
but one amusing tidbit it at 3:37 when the large man behind the guy to Heifetz' right messes up and plays it off. Like a baws!

I only hope the boy doesn't have a great talent and want to be a great violin player. What a sterotyped plot in which Heifetz involved!

You can tell this movie is fiction because that kid walked out on a chance to see Heifetz perform.
