Bwahhh thank you. How is it in my computer-genius family no one know how to graph in Excel? My Climatology project is turning into quite the Saga. This was very helpful :)
Still confused on how to assign the X & Y I am using 2007 new version. You jumped right over the assigning year to adding in you formula. One step at a time please.
@rslmartin27, I go fast because you have ability to pause. Select multiple columns before you click graph button and the left most column will always be X and the remaining columns will be separate series Y values. A series is a "line" or a group of points all the same color.
Great video, helped me alot. But still got a burning question. Ive got a graph containing all the weeks and weight. But i've got different persons in it. So from one person I have week 1,4,5 and 7. But for the other person i have week 3,8,9. The x-axis goes from 1 till 10. But when I only fill in the weeks that ive got info about, the graph does not make a line between these points! It only makes little symbols/markers on the right week. But can I get that line also in there?
It graphs whatever you told it to. You must have picked a percentage column in your spreadsheet. Instead I recommend creating two new columns side by side with the first column being what you want for the x axis and the second column being for the y axis (not percentage!). Then select those 2 columns and do "scatter" graph.
Did you choose line or scatter? Choose scatter. Is the year and the data on two columns right in a row with the year being in the left column? You can't have a separating column.
hi, i'm doing an assignment and I'm really stuck. What if i need to graph data for 3 treatment groups for each period of time? it would just be like this graph except i need 3 lines. e.g. for each year i not only need to graph the area of the ice, i also need to graph stuff from 2 other categories. I tried doing that and it turned out all messed up. can you give me some suggestions? thanks!
It is critical that one column is your time, and the next 3 columns are your data - no columns in between! Then just select all your data and do a scatter plot like in the video. Those are the only 2 key steps - contiguous columns and 'scatter' (not line).
Make sure the x axis data is in one column and the y axis data is in the very next column (no gaps!). Select both columns and do what I did in the video. Watch the video again.
Thank you very much for this video. I use the newest version of MS Excel, but it still helped a lot. This was definitely a much better video than the ones offered by the Excel help window (Which didn't even work).
xD Dude, for a second there, I thought I was doomed. And then you went through the whole 13 minimum and I'm like MY SAVIOR!!! And like, screamed through the whole house. xD I hate science class.
hey nice video, do you know how to draw a line graph used for science thats like, it had 3 things, Plant (1,2and3), Variable(tapwater, saltwater, rainwater, orangejuice), and days (1-3,4-6........28-30) ?
I need more info - e.g. what do you want for x axis? Often time goes on the X axis but sometimes time is your result and usually y axis gets the 'results' of your measurements. What would go on the y axis? Assuming you want a line graph - how many lines do you want per graph? 4 (one for each liquid)? 3(one for each plant)?
Hello everybody I have a problem to include a trendline (regression line) to my graphs and simultaneously keep the standard deviation of each data point different. Can someone help me please? Awaiting your kind feedbacks.
Make 3 columns. First column is time and can never be blank, Second column is car 1 velocity, third column is car 2 velocity. You can leave blanks in columns 2 and 3. Sort by time will look better but not mandatory. Select all 3 columns and do a graph and choose x-y scatter. It will automatically make first column x and the other two columns y.

@msquestion22
Sort the data by person (then week) and it will work:
week,john_weight,ingrid_weight
1,50
3,49
4,49
2,,39
6,,35
7,,34
(make sure you do scatter graph!)

how do you produce a line graph with 1 x-data and 2 y-datas?
Ex:
Make a graph of Velocity against Time for cars A & B. With both cars having 2 separate collection of velocity datas.
toophatpoyo 3 years ago
Make 3 columns. First column is time and can never be blank, Second column is car 1 velocity, third column is car 2 velocity. You can leave blanks in columns 2 and 3. Sort by time will look better but not mandatory. Select all 3 columns and do a graph and choose x-y scatter. It will automatically make first column x and the other two columns y.
