This was my mum's favorite film, we used to watch this with her all the time. Sadly she passed away in June. This bring so many memories back, we still love and miss her so much.

I watched this with my Grandmother some 55 years ago..Scotty Beckett was brilliant in that role..Rudy Wissler had it down.....the movie mad the Yiddishim proud...

Everyone says Larry Park did an amazing lip synch in this movie, and he certainly did. But Scotty Beckett also did a great lip synch, and he had the moves too. Scotty was great, as was Rudy's lovely voice.

Rudy was 17 when he did the singing for TJS. if you go to the IAJS web site you can hear him singing with a barber shop quartet. he passed away about a year ago . his singing voice changed very little in all the years since TJS

I agree. Out of the 100's of Ave Maria's this would have been the best if we had the full recording. It's especially beautiful after the mother ask's "Is our son here" and you hear Rudy's voice ring out, then again at 4:31 and the end. A shame not to have the song in it's entirety. I constantly fight through the dialogue to hear this masterpiece. Also Goodbye my Bluebell.

They should have made him lose his voice on the last note. Two great songs ruined (:-

I read a bio of Jolie which said his first pro singing was for his supper --he sang Rosie you are my Posy. He sang from an audience to a male singer like "Steve Martin" ( William Demerest ), who tried to hire him, but he declined. He DID work for some female like this, then went out on his own, when he realized she would never give him billing or let him on stage, instead of singing from the audience.
