Chick Corea as a solo artist has been around longer than Wayne and Zawinul as the GROUP Weather Report. Joe Zawinul and Wayne as solo artist have been or were (joe's case) around long before than Chick Corea. It's that easy, I think. Weather Report and Return to forever are simply contemporary.

@believer06 "pretty sure Chick's been around longer than Weather Report"
Well, no. They're pretty much contemporaries. None of which precludes imitation, which this is. And imitation without WR's compositional depth, which is true of all of their imitators.
@believer06 Joe Zawinul and Shorter been around WAY longer than corea man. Do your homework. And I'm 100% with bapyou, electrik band is like Weather Report with all the mid 70s funkyness and latin music replaced with late 80s cold-ass jazz fusion schools attitude.
@SlikkTim Weather Report came out in 1970. Chick was putting out music since 1966. Thats all im saying. Anyway, both Chick and Weather Report cranked out great music. I doubt highly either would steal ideas from the other on purpose. Both were consistantly good for quite a few years.
@believer06 Youre defo right on the stealin ideas on purpose thang. I just happen to find the zawinul or herbie fusion stuff more pleasin to my hears. It's kinda funny their 70s stuff sounds less dated than the 80s stuff.
@SlikkTim - Corea and Shorter were both with Blakey's Jazz Messengers in a band that also had Chuck Mangione in it. If you can find it; an album, 'Buttercorn Lady' had their replacements on it. Keith Jarrett and Frank Mitchell.
@SlikkTim Zawinul, Shorter, Corea, and just about anyone who became anybody in jazz fusion in the 70s started with Miles on Bitches Brew, and many other notables appeared with him live or on other studio sessions during the early electric period 68-75. First Weather Report release was in 71, Return to Forever's in 72, but Corea ran with the Latin fusion vibe from the beginning. Don't imagine they were as petty about who did what first as you are being though, it's simply musical paths meeting.
@r3ck0rd Right on. To this day, Im stumbling across old tunes from influences of mine which i havent heard in ages which have elements of my style in them. i did not deliberately take anything from them intentionally and ever claim I had been the one who came up wih the riffs, techniques and whatnot. They just became a part of my style. To just an average listener of my music, they probably wouldnt even notice. Anyway, Im sure this goes for all musicians. No one is 100% original.
@thegerrie19561 Yes, Chick is a great musician. This particular piece is imitation Weather Report however.
But it's alright: many of the fusion groups of the 70s/80s were imitation Weather Report; Spyro Gyra being the mosty egregious and awful example of the trend.
Weather Report were a cut above the entire crowd because of the great compositional depth of Zawinul, Shorter and a top-shelf youngblood like Pastorious. Z and S were around since the 40s. That band had mad soul.
@fiveinslide6 Nope. They have videos for about all the songs on "Inside Out" LP. Yeah, it's my favorite LP of his. Can never get tired of listening to it.
Chick Corea with the KX5 and FM sound is one of the best things that has happened in keyboard music, at least to my opinion. He can feel that instrument so well. As well as he does with an acoustic piano, and any kind of keyboard for that matter.
I have the whole VHS tape. They play the full album (minus Stretch it). They recorded and filmed at the same time. It has puzzled me for a long time, since we don't see many (if any) mics around the drums. Anyway, Tale of Daring is so impressive to watch. There must have been weeks of rehearsal to be able to play it without the charts!
Ah, and I forgot: In the official score, you can read "the music was written in one week" and "Thanks to Bela Bartok for the inspiration". No comment...
Can you imagine this video clip being shown on MTV these days? In between such highly accomplished musical geniuses as Eminem, and let's not forget the ever awesome Nickelback.
Ah classic Corea minor 11th chords. I love this tune from Inside Out. Very open solo sections. I like the motif at 2:26 and the outside stuff at 2:34 the best. Superb ending, I couldn't have written anything better.
I recorded this off TV (BET) back when the LP first came out. They made videos for every song off the LP (Inside out). unfortunately, this is the only one I have.
Inside Out (the disc this tune is from) is one of the greatest fusion records ever. Chick is at the top of his game writing wise, and the guys are a well oiled machine. The "cap piece" of fusion up to this point. There, I said it and I feel better.
I 'll have to agree with you friend ....out of 2000 cd's - this one will let you realize not only musics capability but your stereo ( and neighbors) qualities ;)

You mightn't have to, seeing that this "electric band stuff" was done twenty

moved on, as well he should. As for the rest of us, we can keep pace with

our CD and vinyl collections for those special trips down Memory Lane.
