Ive got the same bike and didn't even realise the last owner had installed a 12V outlet under the fairing until I pulled the front off! The dude didn't have an inline fuse so I chucked one in. Is it nessecary to ground it to the frame within the line? :)
No I haven't done the doohickey I would like to but I'm not that confedent with it , I spoke with my local shop but thay have noclue what I'm talking about .I'm in australia and the bike is not as big over here but the 08 model looks like it is realy doing well , but there isnot much aftermarket stuff here yet . cheers''
it's really not that hard or complicated it just looks a little intimidateing and there is some good videos on youtube and how to articles on klr websites.Wish I could help you because i have the tools now but were a long ways apart i live in the states. You'll probabably be just fine without it but i have seen it done on those new models too.
@Honey72 I have done the DooHickey on a 2001 and helped a friend with his 2008. His is much more robust, but the spring looks the same. If I had the new KLR I would not mess with it.
thanks for the video,it's always nice to learn anything about the klr even though mine is an 06.Have you changed your doohickey yet, that's the first thing I did to mine,it looked fine with 2500 miles but i'm glad i did it anyway.I just got my subframe upgrade bolts, better shifter, grips and bar end dampners and will install them on my day's off.happy and safe riding to ya!

I have a 2008 KLR, the doohickey spring lost tension at just over 12,000 miles.
I fixed my with the Eagle MIke torsion spring kit (replaces lever and spring)
