She could make some serious improvements on her portuguese in Canada, because her portuguese is really very bad. Yes, for perfect, fluent portuguese she would need direct and continuous contact with the language for a while. But before that, for normal portuguese with a slight canadian accent, she still has a looooooooooooooong way to go.

Before you try to criticize her not perfect speaking, ask yourself, how good would your command of the Portuguese language be without learning it first from your parents and family? @MsLushka She said when her parents first arrived to Canada they didn't know how to speak English. But once they learned it, English was the primary language spoken at home. When Nelly grew up, they mostly spoke English in the house. This is quite typical with 1st-2nd generation immigrant families, by the 3rd generation the native language is generally lost. Nelly only spoke Portuguese with her grandmother and probably some other relatives.

This interview was really hard for her, the news reporter didnt make her life easy. Well, I guess you're entitled to your opinion on the matter. But, I can assure you that's not the case. She could make some serious improvements on her portuguese in Canada, because her portuguese is really very bad. Yes, for perfect, fluent portuguese she would need direct and continuous contact with the language for a while. But before that, for normal portuguese with a slight canadian accent, she still has a looooooooooooooong way to go.
