Well, it would also be possible to ask that of conservatives - let's be honest, both our sides work like this. e have lost civility. Assuming I am right, though, that still does not make our treatment of each other right.
I have found very few conservatives that take politics as personally as the liberals I have met
Every conservative I know, thinks like this;
There is an information deficit, either they or the person they are talking to, is lacking information, and that if both sides had the same set of info, they would come to the same conclusion
Conservatives know everything they do, but are intentionally supporting policies that hurt old people, poor people, women, and blacks, because they are bad people. They are racists, sexists, and are ok with hurting other people as long as it serves themselves
@LordVigeous666999 Conservatives talking to conservatives/liberals talking to liberals is different than talking across the aisle. What immediately comes to mind is the gun carrying group that came to DC for an Obama rally some time ago.
But more immediately, I am thinking of Facebook and a friends list I am on. There is an AM talk radio personality (local, not national or regional) who gets really angry men and women to comment. It gets VERY personal sometimes.
@madmanmikey What gives me hope, though, are my personal conservative friends. We definitely disagree on the basic subjects. But NEVER does it get personal, loud or threatening.
I think that as a county we need to personally reach across the aisle so as to remember that we aren't insane enemies, but countrymen with a shared stake in things. More than rational discourse, we need personal discourse before we become of country of Shiites and Sunnis, if you know what I mean.
well, as far as that radio program, I listen to a lot of talk radio, I have never encountered that, there are some that are pretty biased and unfair, hannity, ingrahm, but I have not heard what you describe, be that as it may
As for the gun carrying group, I guess I would want to know, were they just carrying guns, or were they brandishing them, and threating the use of them? Were they shouting and getting riled up like mob? If not, then I don't know why you lump it in with incivility
As far as you talking with you friends, thats good. I have gone to political action groups, and had meaningful dialogues with them
And yet, I have also gone to the capitol building, and been surrounded by 30 people, yelling at me, calling names, using physical dominance to intimidate, and had people that were so angry because I had a different opinion, they were shaking from the adrenaline
You will never have that if you go to a Tea Party. But then again, if you went to one, you would probably claim it did happen
Because at the capitol building, I had that group of 30 people tell me, that I WAS INTIMIDATING THEM, I was being antagonistic, that I was picking a fight
So, if a single conservative can intimidate 30 people, that are backed up by a couple thousand like minded people, I suppose you would be intimidated if you went to a Tea Party Rally
And again, to the extent that I see people on my side getting out of hand, I do step in, and stop them
But I see entire rallies, of thousands of people, that are all acting out of hand, and no one on your side says anything, except to the extent that you praise it
Like when the tax day tea party was held in Madison, and the union people came out with bull horns, megaphones, noise makers of every kind, and shouted down every one of my speakers.
@madmanmikey I don't remember a bunch of conservatives treating Jim Doyle the way the left is treating Scott Walker so I'm going to call you out on your bullshit comment.
Lefties who claim "both sides" are the same are full of shit and lying to promote their shitty fucking politics. But guess what? People like me are on to you scumbags and will root you out.
There were about a hundred who showed up but many did leave when they found out the governor had left already. Around 50 stayed and gathered peacefully. Many more were on their way from further away or who were trying to get out of work early--we told them early on that Walker flew the coop so that no one had to hurry. They all came out throughout the day to drop off their donations, anyway!
Fucking worthless socialist cunt Shanon Molina gets on my fucking nerves. This cunt is trying to get elected on the school board

I don't understand why liberals have so much hate for a person
Dislike their policies, fine, but why are liberals so full of hate?

Where was the civility then?
