Not that he doesn't like the beatles - he just likes their then rivals because they play what he likes better... ignorant people don't really know that they like
the problem was that the beatles didnt release their really hard rocking stuff like "leave my kitten alone" is a much better hard rocker than anything the stones did but was left off, perhaps to maintain the lighter than the stones image
The Beatles are my favorite band, but they are completely overrated. Completely. Is that the band's fault? No. But it gets very sickening after a while to see people drooling over them. I would have probably hated them if I lived in the 60s quite honestly. They were just people like me, in the right place at the right time, with the right energy. Love it or hate it, get over it, that's my motto.
no, i really don't think it had anything to do with luck, i mean if brian epsteil wouldn't have attended clavern lcub on 9 November 1961 to see john lennon, paul mccartney and george harrison (well, also best) perform there and then worked his ass off to get them a contract music wouldn't have taken the way it did.
l@OropherThranduil You are totally right and know your trivia. The luck I'm talking about is the fact that these people existed at the time that they did. The planets aligned in the big picture, so to speak. I definitely know that everybody involved had to work their asses off to get their success, which they of course deserve, I just want to jump off a cliff when people start freaking out when somebody else doesn't like their favorite band.
and i hate that everybody always says stones are harder or that shit, the stones manager created their image from the behavior the beatles had before epstein changed their looks and attitude.
beatles played for years for whores, sailors, gangsters in hamburg clubs in one of the hardest red light distriks of europe, and the stones grew up and played in london, pretty sissy compared to the beatles carrer start and upbringing in liverpool.
For me, comparing Beatles to Zappa is Great Apples vs. Great Oranges. 90% of Zappa is unlistenable (sometimes on purpose), but 10% of if is close to genius ("Hot Rats" etc....). But that 10% is ALOT of stuff.
I just feel lucky to be on a planet that produced both Beatles and Zappa.
In a 1985 Larry King interview, Zappa mentions the ONLY 3 Beatles songs he likes:
Rick & Chroma, you should both be flogged with golf clubs for even mentioning such useless, talentless swine as Justin, Christina and Britney on the same page as the last KING of Rock and Roll!!! FZ played MUSIC, those other three didn't even push the buttons on the instant-hit workstations they squawked over.
All this shit I heard about Zappa being ignorant etc. it's a load of bollocks. Yes, he doesn't like The Beatles but he expresses it in a very dignified way. I for one am a big fan of Frank Zappa. RIP.
And the definition is a special natural ability. Having a funny voice, is not a talent.
"and i have heard very few completely generated computer/electronic music that is entertaining. "
As gramatically incorrect as that is, there are still computer made songs that are good. any songs using MIDI would be accountable, so a lot of computerized songs are "good".
Some find rap and techno are good, but mainstream rap and all techno really isnt talent
Jonas Brothers, Miley Cirus, Demi levato , all these people have an insane level of fame. But you cant say theyre talented, that they only care about their art and strive to be the best.
Thats my backing up.
And Mozart composed peices like no other, so yeah, he kinda did change music. You cant use elvis because he stole about all of his songs from poor black people. And lmao, ur saying dylan didnt do acid? not like the beatles but he still did.
Everyone remembers new kids on the block, and theyve been gone about 10 years . Fame has nothing to do with talent whatsoever. If youre going to bluntly say it does, then theres no point in replying, because youre plain ignorant.
You remember Mozart because he changed music, but he had talent, because his compositions werent acid trips.
It does matter, loads of non famous 60's bands had amazing songs, fame isnt equivalent to talent/good. Look at the Jonas Brothers if you disagree.
Frank Zappa used his own thoughts rather than the thoughts of acid to write, which is why he is far more talented than any band that did acid. Not saying hes the best and everyone sucks, no, but as far as creativity and talent goes, he did it uninfluenced.
The beatles did a lot for music, and influenced it more than zappa, but zappas compositions were far more brillant, than any song regarding strawberry fields.
Lol, c'mon, like if the beatles wrote something amazing (mediocre at best is what they did) overhyped (i'm sorry for tthe use of this word), if it weren't for the so called Beatlemania they wouldn't be as praised and known as they are. Frank Zappa is musically superior in comopsition, arrangement, lyrics and guitar than The Beatles.
You are musically brain dead. Frank Zappa was a genius, yes. But so were The Beatles. Are you trying to say songs like 'She's Leaving Home', 'Eleanor Rigby', 'A Day In The Life', 'Yesterday', 'Hey Jude', 'Things We Said Today' and so many more were not good songs ? Don't be so fuckin' stupid. Watch documentary 'Howard Goodall's 20th Century Greats - The Beatles' for a music lesson. You need it. No really, try to find this documentary.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and just because something is more easily accessible to the public doesn't make it better. You have your opinions, and that's fine. I actually like the Beatles quite a bit myself. I don't think you should down the work of a genius like Zappa though just because he didn't share your love for the Beatles.
well I wasn't about to say that personally I think a lot of Frank's music is the best from the fusion of styles and influences that the post war generation created. But he kinda got sidetracked with all the hero worship bullshit and sportified dumb girl fucking that went on.. anyway he was a real creative dude. But in music jealousy goes with the territory. Should have kept hold on his humanity too...
He was a depressed man. His lack of faith makes him a completely uninteresting person to me.
