Love all songs by Ultravox, and am a good friend of Midge Ure who I have met many times.
I am a musician and was in a lot of bands in the 80's. I was lucky enough to tour with quite a lot of other bands from the time, including many of the one's you have said you like.
I still tour at the moment with a band playing 80's music and love it.
I even buy 80's vynyl and have over 32000 records. I drive an Escort 1600 Mexico, so I am truly MR 80's
I would like to ask anyone who listens to this song and other songs from the 1980's if the music only affects the people who were young at the time the music was released, in the same way it does me, or if anyone can feel the sense of connection I do.
A track to remember ! wonderful music ! Gary and Eddie got it right ! Listen to the start, drum beat shall take you away "forgive me for asking" what a track ! I watch the day go by ! music these days are no comparison ! i have a video for this track in my mind soon to be real.... beautiful ! excellent ! China Crisis i love you !
This brings back memories a lot of people rememising of times when they were young but remember even a human being that is 100 years old is only a nano second compared to the history of the universe!
@edmail2992 I just want to say that it is not important how long the history of the universe may be, it is our own lifes and events in it (like these songs) that create the nostalgia in us all, so regardless of how long a person is on the earth I doubt very much that anyone would turn down the chance to return to their youth.
A beautiful song that encapsulates how I felt when I was 18 and lived a life worth living, We all grow old too soon and it is true that youth is wasted on the young. Oh how much I wish to go back and live once more, but all I am left with is sad nostalgia and a pain inside for the want of my youth.
@SuperTomo1965 I feel exactly the same way. The pain inside from those long gone days is with me like a feeling of homesickness. I long to go back to the days of my youth where i was happiest but i know i can never go back home again no matter how much i want it.
If i had known then how my life would turn out and how i would never experience such happiness and carefree days as then, i would have chosen to end my life when i was most happiest.
@Time71Team It is sad that we all have to get old, and I so long to feel alive again like I did when I was 17/18. Now I suffer with angina, arthritis and asthma, couldn't get up and have a good time if I tried. Oh why can't someone invent a time machine so I can return to the happiest days of my life.
@SuperTomo1965 I wish also a time machine could be invented to whisk us back to those far off days when we had our health and vigour and life was so carefree and happy.
Like you i have a number of chronic illnesses and i can only dream of having the health i had in my youth. When i was 15 my great grandmother said to me "it is lucky people cannot see into the future because they would not be able to live with knowing how their life will turn out".
@Time71Team Thanks for replying again. I understand completely how you feel and I think that time is mans eternal enemy. I never thought much about how life would be when I was older and now wish that I had paid more attention to my health, but one consolation is the fact that we both have these songs and the everlasting memory of the good old days.
@SuperTomo1965 It is funny how when you are young you never pay much attention to the future as it seems so very far away. As you say at least we have the good music from those happy long gone days and time can never take away our memories.
@Time71Team Hi again, I am replying once more because I wish to find out what other songs from the period you also like. Email my spare mail address, tomo1965@mail.com.
Having been a teenager in the early 80`s i would gladly give up all the remaining years of my life if i could have just one day back from those happy days.
I never realised then that they were the best days of my life and i would never again be as happy as i was then.
Now those days are gone along with the family and friends i once held dear and as i get older life stops giving and starts taking more of those people who were in my life but my memories will never be taken from me.
@SuperTomo1965 Oh I see SuperTomo if someone has audacity to collect it means they can't get a shag! lol. So what about you Super Tomo apart from your ego it appears you dont have a sense of humour. You are probably one sad git that dreams about yesterday when things were better for you, but now your feeling sorry for yourself. You should not judge a book by it's cover Tomo! Smile I will pay for the damages!
@CoolCollectableToys Very good CCT you have sussed me out, I actually am a musician and I collect guitars. I was in lots of bands in the 80's and 90's and was lucky enough to tour with many of the bands from the era. Ok pay for the damages and we will call it evens, at least then I reserve some pride. Yours "well put in my place" Tomo
I like the bit where he tricks the girl whilst hiding in the hay, she giggled they kissed, so nice, do that to a girl nowadays and she would probably headbutt you and you'd get 5 years in the Joy from the human rights crowd in the EU.
@ganyuehan Wiki says: "Wishful Thinking" is a song by English pop group China Crisis, released as the third single of their 1983 album Working with Fire and Steel – Possible Pop Songs Volume Two. It reached #9 in the UK charts in early 1984, becoming their only top 10 hit single in that country. The song is included on numerous compilation albums.
One of the best to come out of the new romantic /synth bands 80s mode ,the clrinet in between the vocals /solo always gets to me ..a beautiful song ,thanks

I was almost homestretch with my Accounting & Economics degrees when this song exploded to the top of the charts. Ah, the 80s indeed were full of niceties.... some people hated that generation but who cares, you can't walk to the 90s without passing through the 80s... Love it !

I hope she goes straight to Old Nick, mind you she'd probably fit in there
Spent 25 years in the Royal Marines, fought all over the planet, always listened to china crisis. Especially D,S,A,P,R,S,P,T,I,F,T,E, If you know CC you'll know the album
when asked by a young boy , whats the worst thing about getting old to his old man , he said son , the worst thing about getting old is forgetting those fantastic memories from when you were young . never a truer work spoke .
Just hearing China Crisis again sends all my memories of the 80s flooding back. I was at teacher training college at the time, full of hope and excitement for the future. I was going to make a difference..................now I am a deflated sad old g*t!
@ohmygosh77777 Aren't we all, my friend? Still a tremendous era for music - even the one-hit wonders were great - though there is regret and other things forever attached to it. Lost youth? Unfortunately I drank mine. Best Wishes.
what can i say....i wish we can all go back to the 80's.....hmmm..??? where can we get a flux capacitor???? and a delorian....lol...back to the future!!! awesome movie
nice music bring back the 80's,,but when i saw them perform in the mall in las pinas,,never took second chance to get the ticket,,and took some group pictures with the band ,the feeling is awesome,,
I wish that China Crisis would perform again here at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, here in Manila, Philippines. But then again, i am happy for this kinds of song. Such great memories gone by.
This song makes my heart ache to be young again in the 80s, I'm 44 now but wish with all my being to be able to go back. Great music, great times, great friends.
I spent time in the forces and these songs remind me of where i served good and bad, so i have mixed emotions for most of the tracks but i adored china crisis.
just watch their concert yesterday, people get up in their feet when they hit this song..so awesome..bring back the old days..tnx to the producer to make this happen
Some stranger felt the need to mock me B'cos I had listed this as a favourite. This song takes me back to a time when I had never known what true heartache & misery felt like so this nobody can mock me all they want but they can NEVER take away my nostalgia that transports me back to a time when I hadn't a care in the world & when I read ilmajc's comment it really brought it home how important our memories are, and to quote ilmajc. . . Beautiful x x x x x x
i'm also in my 40's and when i look back through the decades, nothing like the music in the 80's come close...so much memories and i wonder why there were fonder memories in the 90's or 2000's....
Scousers rule!!! A great band..from a great era...Futurists.....some great bands and great memories.....for a time it was as if music had been re-invented its self!!
@Supersweetguy I don't need to prove a thing, it happened. Felt really sorry for him too, everyone made his life hell. Kids can be cruel, but main thing is he went on to greater things, and had the last laugh.
The 80s were difficult times. The Irish Republican Army were bombing London, Argentina invaded the Falklands, Ninoy Aquino of the Philippines was assisinated. But everytime you hear China Crisis' "Wishful Thinking", the 80s turn into a time we always yearn for... our youth.
@iceblue1973 In a way, me too..life was simple then..fell in and out of love so easy. Some of the music was sooo pure and innocent..like we were...oh to be a teenager again in those times...sigh..
I want to give respect to the writer, it's just a marvelous , both lyrically and musically

I have seen them perform in SMX in Mall of Asia and they are as magnificent as back then. Thank you China Crisis! Thanks to Simple Minds too!
I hope The Cure will perform next in Manila!

I spent time in the forces and these songs remind me of where i served good and bad, so i have mixed emotions for most of the tracks but i adored china crisis.

@RyanDunnsLostSneaker hmm, and how can you prove it?
Supersweetguy 4 months ago
@Supersweetguy I don't need to prove a thing, it happened. Felt really sorry for him too, everyone made his life hell. Kids can be cruel, but main thing is he went on to greater things, and had the last laugh.

Una canción de mi juventud, cuantos recuerdos de los hermosos años 80's, muchas gracias por compartir este video.

The 80s were difficult times. The Irish Republican Army were bombing London, Argentina invaded the Falklands, Ninoy Aquino of the Philippines was assisinated. But everytime you hear China Crisis' "Wishful Thinking", the 80s turn into a time we always yearn for... our youth.

My heart sinks when I hear this song, I wish it was the 80's now. An era of proper music, music that had meaning and a sense of innocense.

@iceblue1973 In a way, me too..life was simple then..fell in and out of love so easy. Some of the music was sooo pure and innocent..like we were...oh to be a teenager again in those times...sigh..
