  • obviously she loves what she does..she really feels the music....and the sex in jazz music...swave and moving...wow

  • "Taking a chance on love" is one of my favorite jazz standards..and with the voice of my favorite singer Jane Monheit becomes a masterpiece of rare beauty

  • thin voice..who encourages these people,,she can sing..shes beautiful..but her voice...not much there,,,kinda pathetic really....the band swings..she..not so much....

  • I know that I'm gonna get a lot of flak for saying this but while I think she's beautiful and sexy and has a nice singing style, her voice is very lean and "yappy" sounding.

  • Try the veal, it's delicious!....

She needs to learn to STFU ans sing onstage. I hear a llttle bit of very young Ella in her phrasing. Cool,.... I've heard her really suck ( go to "Cheek to Cheek") she just shouldnt do that tune

  • @mamachip could it be that you can't blow your nose on vocals? ...so you find it exhiliarating to demean one of the classiest , swinginest chicks in the artform today.....how many gigs do you sell out, pray tell? Do you even earn a living at it like she does? Accept everyone's contribution to the art....everyone has something to contribute in their own special way. It's not all about chops. How many cats cream in their genes looking at you, mama???????????

  • She has an amazing voice! Thanks for sharing!

  • Wow! Best version by far I have heard of this classic.

I can't decide which is the best part - the beginning, the middle, or the ending with the scatting and soaring notes. The band is sensational - every note made sense to me. She is singing this song with the intensity of someone who really had recently fallen in love. The flirt with the drummer (now her husband) during the introduction when she lifted her leg (0:37), and the touching of her heart at 2:57...phew!

  • Ain't it nice to hear people singing instead of shouting?

  • @craigenputtock I couldn't agree more with you.

  • Remind me to never sing again, haha ... this woman is ... MINT!

  • i adore her, she's my favourite!!!! thanks for the video!

  • Who would dislike this!!!!!!!!!!

  • She is one of the best jazz singer of our generation. Thanks for sharing.

  • LOVE her!!! Her voice so clear & sweet!

  • Jane is an excellent jazz singer, one of the best...Jazz fans don't worry: you'll have a good singer for the next 30 years, at least...

  • Love the way she looks and sings. Classy, definitely. Beautiful and simply amazing!

  • jane is so beautiful...and i love her voice!!!

  • She has a distinct sound, and it is so pleasant to hear a new sound. It makes such a big difference to listen to the good old jazz standards with a fresh new voice.

  • I love jazz :)

  • Jane Monheit is simply awesome! nothing strambotic nor fashion, just great music and awesome voice.

  • bad guitar player!

  • @tagima Uh Hello

  • gosh i'm actually aroused listening to it

  • wonderful

  • Nicely done.

  • Amazing voice... looking forward to seeing her in San Diego in May at Anthology

  • Bellisisisisisisisisisisismo.. Waaaaa

  • I think I have just heard Peggy Lee's successor

  • Jane's simply awesome, isn't she?

  • As an old man - I did not realise that singers like this were still being born. She is FANTASTIC and I am sure will go down in jazz history as one of the greats.

  • @mtone9317 - i searched diane peterson on youtube but now vd....would you have her video....i heard renee's version but i like this better, except for the " too much ornamentation of the melody" bit :) thanks for uploading this video....

  • Can't find Diane on Youtube. Other suggestions?

  • I agree, Jane and Renee!!!!

Gonna get to see Jane in concert on Dec. 4th. :)

  • Jane is one of my favorites along with Renee Olstead. They are just incredible Jazz singers.

  • she's the bomb!!!! wish she did some vids!! :D she did one with Michael Bouble..with "I won't dance" :P

  • jezz jazz!!thanks!!

  • Good girl, good song!

  • Beautiful control of her voice, great style and man is she hot.

  • Rick Montalbano on the drums is her husband. They met in college, he apparently introduced her to the jazz scene

  • Jane Monheit's singing style is very similar to Lena Horne and Anita O'Day... elegant, classic and beautiful!!!

  • I love the way she sings. She's very classy. Thanks for commenting on this video.

  • I thought it was well done, but I'd love to hear the verse to this song. I've never heard anyone do it.

  • shes really beautiful .. and superb singer ..

  • On the other hand, I think she is a jazz singer who happens to have a beautiful and melodious voice. I've already heard June Christy and she also sings beautifully. However, I still prefer Jane Monheit.

  • why is it that absolutely perfect pitch excludes one from the hollowed world of

    jazz singers?

  • I seem to remember being at this - wasn't it done at Brecon late evening set recorded by the BBC? Can't remember the year, maybe 5 or 6 years ago?

  • Yaahh. Jane monheaith is one of the best...

  • Thank You! Loved this..She is so good!

pls send me any new links!

Love her duet with Michale Buble!

  • WE SUNG THIS AS A CHORAL PIECE IN CHOIR

  • sweet yet powerfull voice!

  • Been playing the Bass since I was a young man and thought I'd seen it all when Diana Krall came on the scene. This woman can sing her heart out. She is one of the most exciting singers to come along in a long time. She is also very sexy.

  • I couldn't agree more with you. How fabulous and magnificent Jane Monheit is. I'm a great fan of her. Have you ever seen/heard her performing "I won't dance" and "Baby, it's cold outside"?

    Cheers!

  • she's beautiful. her voice has a trace of billie holiday influence, but it's magnificent

  • Hi and thanks, I will see what I can do. If you search for David Cavill on You Tube, one of the sites (not mine) has me singing at the 606 club in London. I would point out I had a cold at the time - its better now!

  • Thnak you for posting this. I was especially pleased to hear and see this track because I am singing this number at a jazz concert at the West Wiltshire Music Centre at Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire UK next Monday 1st December

  • Some suggestion brefordeau. Leaving out the well known ones (Ella, Sarah, Peggy etc) try listening to:

Clare Teal, Clare Martin, Rachell Penell, Lianne Carrol, Gwyneth Herbert, Tina May, Anita O'DayDiana Krall, Stacy Kent, Mark Murphey (male but a marvellous interpreter of song), Seleena Jones, Lezlie Anders. I've left out the well known ones but these are the best in my opinion although there are others.

  • I'd like to see you performing at the West Wiltshire Music Centre. Have you got the link so that I can check your performance out?

Thanks for the suggestions. If possible, keep in touch with me sending suggestions and links for nice videos of jazz.

  • Don't forget Esparanza Spalding

  • @davidcavill I just want to add Karin Allyson to that list - another great jazz performer

  • It amuses me that everone has an opinion on the quality of performers voices. Enjoy it the way it was meant instead of analysing every little bit. Unless you can do better; which I kindly doubt; maybe you should just listen and enjoy, after all it's what jazz is for.

  • I totally agree with you.

  • es increible su voz..es hermosa ella!

  • Well worth taking a 'chance' on!

Another big reason to keep an open mind with what is possibly a new artist, to some, like me. To hear great singers and their elegant music here, is truly a luxury that I am greatful for. Big thanks to my friend, and Bretodeau, for sharing this! What an exceptional singer with very fine musical accompaniment, rhythm, and

va- va- voom! / truly an instant favorite!

  • I'm the one to thank. If you happen to know other singers like Jane Monheit, do get in touch with me!

  • I love her!

Perhaps you sing better than she does.

  • She does Ethel Waters PROUD!!!

  • she truly does

  • I agree. Monheit certainly has the goods to make this a classic version as well.

  • Right on! You have an excellent ear, Jalex. Although Jane is undeniably unique in her own right, the color notes she reaches for to sweeten, enhance and simply dance through a song are indeed playful, imaginative...and yes, reminiscent of the late great Miss Ella. Jane's mastery of her craft and magnificent palette of notes are simply transcendent. Strong and graceful...like a prima ballerina.

  • Anybody else hear the interesting mix of Ella Fitzgerald and Barbra Streisand in her voice?

  • definitely ella; i was just saying that the other day to someone!

  • See Jane. See Jane sing. Sing, Jane, sing! Her tone, resonance, interpretation, playfulness and execution is glorious and inspiring. And to those who are quick to criticize...please present your credentials. What? None, you say? Well then, that explains it. Kindly leave the artistry of music to the professionals. Like Jane.

  • Bravo!!!!

    Perfect comment.

  • I'm quite sure you sing better than her.

  • Sorry, but I keep on preferring Jane's version.

  • smile then Orlando...ha! He's so killing..

  • She makes it sound so effortless. Love love love love love her!

  • I do agree with you. Jane Monheit is simply awesome, isn't she?

  • She better than awesome! This is for sure my favourite version of this song. I want her to come to England!!!

  • Wow, we share the same opinion about this version. In my opinion, Jane Monheit is the one who best performs "Taking a chance on love".

Yes, she needs to go to England, provided she lands in Brazil before, hehehe.

  • 3:41 - 4:00

    19 seconds of pure emotion.

    what a goddess.

  • i do agree with you.

jane monheit is simply great, isn't she?

  • Jane does her thing, Renee does her thing, all is good.

No bad vibes...that's how god jazz is created.

  • She's good!!!

  • i think she´s better than renee olstead more a real jazz singer.lol ♥ i like her

  • Jane Monhait in wonderful. I just think Renée Olstead is a good singer, but compared to Jane, she has lots to learn...

  • oh i want to be her dentist. lol

  • No comments for such an unhappy comment.

  • awesome, she is great.

  • I also find her awesome. Jane is one of the best jazz singers I have ever seen.

  • jane thanked me for coming - how did she know ?lol

  • why does she bounce so much ?

  • I've seen some of the best, live: Ella, Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter, Carmen McRae... and now all those great ladies have passed on. People like Jane Monheit and Diana Krall are really adding something of their own. She's great.

  • I also enjoy the divas a lot. Unfortunately, most of them have already passed away. Fortunately, new divas like Madeleine Peyroux, Jane Monheit and Diana Krall have been giving us great performances like this one.

In my opinion, Jane Monheit is one of the greatest jazz singers ever.

  • what do you think of Renee Olstead? I just heard for the first time, and although she might be too young to really sing with conviction, I was thoroughly entertained by her talent.

  • I've never heard of Renee Olstead. Could you please recommend one of her songs you like the most?

    Thanks,

    Aurelio

  • Yes, 'On a slowboat to China' and also 'Taking a chance on love', from her self-titled album. I think you'll enjoy it. Her style is similar to Jane's. The amazing part is that I think she's not even 20 yet.

  • I've just seen Renée Olstead performing "Summertime" and "Taking a chance on love". She's really fantastic, huh?!

  • it kinda looks likes shes lip singing lol!!!!!! but i like her shes cool

  • I LOVE Jane Monheit!

She's one of my favourite jazz singers.

  • By the way, I saw Jane perform at Jazz Alley in Seattle, and I became a big fan after that show. She's a beautiful singer with a heart for jazz.

  • She's really awesome, isn't she?

  • her technique is fabulous, as is her delivery- i hear a slight doris day twang in there.love it !

  • this girl is a fabulous performer/singer.

    thats how to sing!

  • Jane Monheit is simply fabulous. I love her!!!!

  • Beautiful x

  • I found this video fantastic!

Jane Monheit is one of the most beautiful voices ever.

  • VERYGOOD

  • I do love this song. By the way, I love to see you singing.

  • cool

  • she's amazing, don't you think so?
