I was wondering, do you think the video lags at all? I'm hoping to record my drums and use mics and stuff, although i'm worried the camera might lag, and delay? Please help :)
I bought a Vado HD to film my scenes in my acting class for personal study, but I've found that I DEFINITELY need an external mic to pick up the dialogue better. I can barely hear anything when I play them back on my computer. The camera is held about 8 feet from where I perform...at the farthest. It's for personal study, so it doesn't have to be perfect clarity, but it absolutely has to be audible on the computer playback...and I cannot be attached to the camera. Which mic would you suggest?
I'm thinking of purchasing this but I've heard the audio quality isn't that good. Are there any good quality but affordable mics that I can put on to it so it can handle the sound of music instruments etc?
All the band vids on my channel with the Zi8 are useing the 5 buck Sony ECM-DS70P. The trick is go into settings of the camera and turn the volume all the way down before you record a band. You have to reset it if you turn the camera off or the volume will go back to full. I have the Vado also and the mic works well with it but I have never found a Volume level on the Vado over 95 db it will distort, at a loud concert the Vado will distort
The FAQ says that it can't use mics that have their own power, but you show one as an example? I've tried a couple of dynamic lapel mics (a Panasonic and one that came with an old mp3 player, but the sound recorded is almost non-existent, and boosting the sound in post, you get mainly hiss.
just bought the Sony ECM-570P for my newly purchased Vado 3G, however it doesn'tseem to record/playback any audio. the vado picks up the mic okay but nothing is heard during playback. vado output volume is full.
are there any settings or something i might be missing?
Other things came up after my comment (motherboard died, had to buy replacement parts and upgrades) and I haven't had the chance to purchase the Vado HD 3rd Gen yet.
Thanks for the detailed explanations. I film with a Kodak Zx1 already, and I've now ordered the Creative Vado HD 3rd generation in black. In other colors, they cost twice the price in Germany. The wide-angle lens and the microphone jack is my decision.
Hello Robert. Try recording your videos without the external mics to see if it is the Vado that is making that noise. If not, are you recording outdoors where there is a lot of wind? That may be a cause as to why it's making a hiss noise. -Kristen
No, it is the same with the Vado internal mic, slightly less but still definitely there. I am recording in a totally quiet room too.
Could I just have a "dud" one and need to send it back or do they all make some noise? Any advice would be appreciated - need to get this all sorted and working extremely soon.
I've just bought the 3rd gen Vado because it has the ext mic option. I ahve tried both the AT3350 lavalier and a shotgun mic and I am getting a terrible hiss when playing back on the Vado or the laptop. Is there something wrong with my Vado or is there something I should be doing differently.
@LordReserei01 You can search on Amazon "USB to headphone jack adapter" I just got a bunch of options to choose from, but for some reason it won't let me copy and paste the link here. They probably think it's spam. =)
Yeah, I don't think Youtube has ever liked hypertext.
I did a bunch of searches too before and after commenting using the same search terms but everything that came up tended to be if you wanted to plug anything like a headphone jack into usb port rather than the other way around...
Looks like I'll have to bust out a soldering iron and do some creative thinking (no pun intended). XD
Thanks for the video! We are looking into purchasing an HD pocket cam, and my first concern was about the mic capabilities. Great to see some mic solutions!
Can you adjust the audio gain on the Vado 3rd Gen?
@OnyxCreativeGroup There is no option to adjust the audio gain on the Gen 3 Vado HD. The external mics will help you gain more sound, block out unwanted noises, etc.
Regarding the issue at 2:23, check out the "Sima SLB-M Video Bracket" on Amazon. It's made to hold a camera and 2 mounted accessories and can be mounted on a tripod and it's only $13.
I use it to mount my Azden smx10 stereo condenser microphone and my Kodak Zi8(fyi I would have gotten the vado had I known about it earlier).
Creative Labs should make their own version of the Sony ECM-DS70P 'cause that t-shaped mic looks GREAT, especially for the Vado's on-top mic port placement. A good external mic is just high-end condenser mics in a nice wrapper...isn't it? Or Creative can contract the Zoom Q3 ppl to make one for them. I just ordered a Vado HD 3rd gen and there are too many counterfeit Sony ECM-DS70P mics out there to order one. Would love to buy a similar t-shaped mic, even if it required 2AAA, or something.
@ThePitchersArsenal You may want to get a windscreen if you're planning to film outdoors. That way it will block most of the noise coming in. As for the microphone, it depends on what kind of filming you're planning to do. You can purchase the specific external microphone and then attach a windscreen. Hope this helps
Hey, great video! I just got my vado 3g today and I was wondering where you can get a decent microphone for cheap... I'm 13 and can't really afford anything very expensive :( Can you get mic at best buy or target or are the majority on amazon and online? I have a kinda good one on my sony earphones. The thing is I'm going on vacation and I want to bring the camera on the plane and clog a little but I don't want to disturb anyone.. Do you think the built in mic will work for that well enough?
@ninoscool97 Hey there, yes you can pick up even tiny lapel mics from Radio Shack or Best Buy. I bought a decent one from RadioShack for about 20 dollars. Just look for mics with standard audio jacks & you will be all set. So glad you enjoyed the video, let us know when you post your Vado Vlogging videos! our Facebook fanpage is /CreativeVado.
Thank you for clearing things up for me, how would you rate the low light performance of the camcorder? I record live music on my other channel, I would buy the external microphone to boost the sound quality of my videos. Thank you!
@Vagmonster666 Of course! I noticed you commented on the Vado at Night video as well, note that the 1st and 2nd gen Vado cameras do not have the external mic option. Since you do concert video, check out some of our live concert footage in the more recent videos. Send us a message if you would like direct links. -Tawnee
@wearecreativelabs Thank you, I have found the 2AM Club video and it looks really good I guess the reviews were right about best in class low light performance
I'm getting a Vado HD, I think 1st gen, not really sure... anyway I got it off the Creative Website. Will that Sony Mic still work with my camera? Becuase......... I already bought it without thinking about it. lol.

@ronniesblogtv apparently the Sony ECM-DS70p as shown in this video isn't actually compatible with the Vado !

Yeah, I really would like to use the Samson GoMic USB if/when I buy this camcorder because I love that mic and use it for my tutorials.
I'm still searching to see if you could get a usb cable like the microphone uses and attach a headphone jack...making your own cable.

can you use a mic with the Vado HD (not the 3rd Gen)? I ask because the 3rd Gen has half the record time of the other.
