  • Sophia is a fucking brilliant film maker.

    Haters gonna hate.,.

  • I'm surprised she survived the night in that seat....Bill Murray in the seat in front of you and Robin Williams in the seat behind you.....its a recipe for disaster!!!

  • AWWWWW look at how proud frances ford coppola looks

  • sophia should have won best director instead of lord of the rings.uughh

  • there kind of not a couple anymore billy

  • thank god for this not being taken down! this is a fine piece of video. although susan's dress is awkward. SUPER. AWKWARD.

  • she's a genius.

  • i think susan missed a strap

  • lol, Tim robbins didnt even have to be there, he didnt even do anythign fgs lmao

  • This win was bought by the Coppolas!

  • Did that female award presenter have to wear that?!? Jeez... I mean, looks good for her age... but she practically is asking people to imagine her being naked wearing that. And women complain about men being obsessed with nudity -- it's not our fault women have to tease us wearing stuff like that!

They gave it to Coppola because of her father and so they only have to hand one of those trophies as opposed other nominees with 3 screenwriters. :P

    Haha 12 pgs.

    Sophia and Nicolas Cage... eeek.

  • GODDESS!

  • 3 best films of the 2000's:-

    Lost in Translation

    City of God

    The Dark Knight

    Any others?

  • @Usman0611

    Entire LotR trilogy

    The Departed

    Slumdog Millionaire

  • @flyboi1015

Although i'm not denying Slumdog's brilliance as a film - i think City of God may squeak ahead!

Lol - I haven't seen any of the LOTR so i can't make an estimation!

  • @Usman0611 Memento, Requiem for a dream, Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind maybe???

  • Her speech seemed very rehearsed, I'm sure it all came from the heart but she didn't seem to express it...

  • @killieboy93 most artists aren't very good with words, that's why they do art.

  • @gregoriodavila Yeah but if you listened to the point, he said that the words were fine. It's EXPRESSION that artists are meant to be good at! I agree wit him.

  • Oooh, Kar Wai Wong. Soffia's got interesting tastes. :)

  • Am I the only one that think that susan is hot in this video O_o? She game a hard on right now

  • I wouldn't be surprised if that exultant yell you hear as soon as it is announced is from Francis. Good for them both. Francis has given his life's blood for cinema.

  • For whatever reason i always imagined she would have a French accent.

  • This breaks down very easily. If you like cinema. If you like good movies. Then, it doesn't matter how she got there. You watch her movies and you wait for the other one, because she is a great writer. So it's pretty obvious that people who are probably very talented themselves are a little angry that she got there by nepotism. And we can't forget: nepotism can get you there but then you have to prove you can do it and she certainly CAN.

  • Ah, I love Sofia Coppola. A great talented daughter of a great talented father.

  • i saw the godfather3 and i thought it was wonderful, i didn't see anything wrong with her acting..i don't understand why almost everyone lambasted her in that movie..sure,sure Francis is guilty of nepotism but Sofia was great..plus, she's drop dead gorgeous! Kudos Sofia!

  • No love for Scarlett?

  • Why can't she be my wife?

  • i wonder if the room was thinking "i know how she won"-or if they werent thinking anything at all because they werent suprised.

  • Curious as if to she makes another good film.

  • The beautiful Big Fish wasn't even nominated!!! What a shame!!!

  • "Antonioni, and Wong Kar-Wai, and Bob Fauci, and Godard..."

Sofia handles hers! I lover her

  • Yeah Wong Kar Wai!!!!!!!

  • Does anyone know the song playing while Tim Robbins is announcing the oscar nominations?

  • i took me forever to find this..so happy for sofia! such a genius!

  • i love the way francis was on his feet before anyone else ... thats one proud papa!!

  • i think she's REALLY pretty! I can't some ppl think she's ugly. They must be blind!

  • she is soooo cute, i love her

  • She's amazing. Bravo!

  • "Lost in Translation" is my all time favorite film. I still believe Murray was robbed from the Oscar that was rightfully his. Well deserved Oscar for a great screenplay.

  • Tim Robbins is awesome.

  • Damn, look at Susan Sarandon's tittays.

  • "her connections through her father were not really important for the making of this movie"

    Yes. Yes they were.

  • omg shes gorgeous...and the movie is absolutely divine...definitely deserved

  • her connections through her father were not really important for the making of this movie, if you see the behind the scenes you'll see that it was really a low budget movie; they recorded at the subway without a permit!!! that kind of stuff lets you know what kind of movie this is. I love Sofia because she gave hollywood the first honest and sincere movie in decades.

  • and i love Penn as an actor. but Murray got robbed

  • even Tarantino loved this film. and this kind of movie isnt really a type of film that Tarantino might get hooked on. that's how good this movie is, simply irressitable.

  • very deserved oscar

  • The point is that this movie is a masterpiece...Sofia Coppola deserved it cause she accomplished something out of normal, something thas had never been done, a movie that deals with a deep and different subject...First time i saw it i hated, i couldnt understad its beauty..i gradually developed my interest for it and as time goes by i like it even more...by the way, Murray and Johanson performances are also priceless

  • I felt the same way. First time I watched it I hated it, but then the second time it grows on you. Now its one of my favorite movies.

  • @mastergradeone

Best screenplay doesn't really mean best dialogue. It's more like best story. Without the screenplay, there would be no movie. There are plenty of films with minimal speaking, but they still have a script.

  • Ew. Can people saying that she's in the industry only because of her father please stop? If she were a bad filmmaker, then I can understand those critiques. However, she's one of the most unique voices in American cinema today. This was more than deserved!

  • I liked this film and I have not seen her others to comment, but to say she is one of the most unique voices in American cinema is not much of a stretch. Seriously, who is the competition and what has she offered that is unique? You want to talk about unique - David Lynch stands alone (in terms of who is alive today in America).

  • @thewham34 agreed. but if her father didn't direct god father she would have had to work a hell of a lot harder to get her movies made.

  • oh she's greeeaaat! she sees and values imagery like no other director. she makes me want to EAT marie antointete... and drink... the virgin suicides and... destroy anything else. hehehe

  • lol yes! i agree with the eating part...such a delicious movie:)

  • She deserved this award. The movie was by far the most original, unique, poetic piece of work that year.

  • You noob, I didn't mean her father wrote it for her, I meant that her father was able to open doors for her; allowing her to meet with executives at Focus and Paramount. Paramount is her fathers primary studio for his films. If she had been born into an average household, went to film school (like most directors), then she would not be where she is today. It was evident that should would richocet off her father's success, like most children of celebrities.

  • @Coutureprincess0303

I don't think you understand the genius of this movie.

Although her connections through her father and otherwise obviously would have both helped not only to open doors but to develop her talent and provide good consul.

But I still must say that I don't believe you understand the genius of this movie.

  • Anyone, who makes a fresh, smart, poetic movie like this, deserves to win this award. It had nothing to do with her dad. What's awarded here is the work. It's pretty simple. Nobody but Sofia Coppola actually wrote and directed this piece. If you can do that, you deserve to win like any other artist would. Stop this silly discussion please...

  • I do!! agree with this winnnn! =) lol everyone had their own opinion I guess ...im right though!

  • I don't agree with this win!!!!!!!

  • Sofia Coppola is My favorite director she writes her own stories and has beautiful vision! Marie Antoinette, Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides! she is more talented than half of the older directors out there. and everyone goes through different struggles in life its not her fault she was born in a gifted family!

  • A gem of a movie, thank you Sofia Coppola for making this.

  • Potential wardrobe malfunction for susan there

glad this video is finally up :) never had a chance to see it before now, thanks

  • i know right?!?!?! damn susan, put them away!

  • @stringdance3000 NO! Susan, don't put them away!!!!

  • I enjoyed the movie, but ultimately, she would not have been where she is now, if it had not been for her father's success. She's younger than most directors, because to become a great director, a person needs experience. Most major film comanies will not produce a film by an amateur director. She was lucky to have great actors, and Mart and Ross for the script...i am not bashing her, but come on, critics alike have said her success for due to her father.

  • hell no, pull the other strap down!!

  • pull that strap up, pull that strap!!!!

  • damn, check out susan

  • nice tits huh

  • What the size?!

  • Hardly surprising, given her family.

  • I just love her. The music in her movies are just amazing.

  • just the best

  • Nice footage, thanks for digging this up.
