  • Русская, or Irish, or English ? Do I really care...

when three minutes went by enchanted...

and melody still echoed, I don't remember...

in which language did I cry...

  • come on the scotts!!!

  • utterly confused by the caption russin, Irish and English... like why go the trouble if you can not even give a simple accurate description.Pity..looks good too.

  • Sorry about the confusion there.

We invite you to give us a more apt description for the video. What we want to describe in the title is how one folk song has travelled through Russia, London England and Ireland. The theme of the song is universal, and each country claims it as their own.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Okay sorry if I sounded abrupt, well how about, The Butcher Boy from a Russian, English & Irish folk perspective. Anyways I did enjoy music.

  • Done deed, thanks and all the best.

  • Hello Clare !!

    thanks for this video !

    Eve

  • You are welcome Eve. Have you played this song?

  • That was wonderful ladies, thanks for bringing this to the small screen!:)

  • Good to hear from you AJ, thanks for your comments.

  • I second that, it is beautiful.

  • Thanks UT

  • That was beautiful.

  • Thanks AP

  • Beautiful. Slow motion twirling dresses in video should be a genre to itself. You caught something totally elegant in the close-up of the woman's face near the beginning.

  • Thanks TLS.

Interesting comment about the slo-mo, agree with you there, the action is quite mesmeric.

About the woman - found I was "in the wrong place", for filming having imagined this was the solo-ist.

    Happy accidents:)

  • Lovely song, also interesting to hear Maureen's version as well, thanks for the story behind the song :)

  • Thanks very much for your comments Tallstevo.

  • You're really living it up this year,Cannes, Den helder, edinburgh,Where will we see you next? beautiful video.

  • Thank very much for your comments YL.

    Where are we going next?

Simple answer - We don't know:)

We don't do regular type holidays.

You are right we do get around - Cannes was an unplanned trip to the Awards Ceremony with Brian Deane's winning film "Without Words".

Den Helder was about our work - and a change of style - we went camping:)

Edinburgh was for work too, and very lovely it was too.

    Wishing you all the best:)

  • Yes, you are never off the batter!

  • Lovely. Thanks for sending this to me. It is the same Butcher Boy I sing and have posted for you to compere....there are a few changes in the melody of the first verse.Never thought I would hear it in Russian

  • Thanks for the response MD. Your Butcher's Boy is the Irish one that we are most familiar with. When filming, I missed the first part of the song as I didn't recognise the change in melody you talk about.

Fortunately, we made a simultaneous digital sound recording, so could edit it into the video.

  • This melody definately has an Irish sound to it! It might be english but I could swear...if you went back far enough, somebody Irish had a hand in the original melody! Anyway these sweet girls are lovely and it's nice to see and hear them. Thank you for recording this! You two are wonderful:)

  • This is hauntingly beautiful! I love it...I had to listen to it twice, thank you for sharing.... x

  • Isn't it fab WS? You can't beat a simple song, sung with a good heart.

  • Thanks for Sharing this Video.. it was a really NIce one.. God Bless..

  • Thank you for your kind comments, all the best to you.

  • Very beautiful, thank you :)

  • Thank you for your kind comments CNM, wishing you all the best.

  • Ab Fab Ladies!!!!!! Thank you for sharing! I love you girls!

  • Thanks P4L61, we came up from London to Edinburgh in Scotland to film these woman. It was worth the trip. Wishing you all the best:)

  • That was BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for sharing that with everybody!! :) :)

  • Thanks very much LJG, it is really lovely to receive such a positive response. At times, simplicity of song has such power to move us. What attracted us to this was the way the folk song travels through different countries.

  • That was just great, I thought this was an Irish song too. Your mother used to sing it.

  • Yes, you are right urneytom, my mother did sing this song in concert, and that's why I thought it was an Irish song. This group performing at Edinburgh is one of the main reasons for us making the trip up to Scotland this year.

  • The Russian heart has sure had a lot of beatdowns in past history. And it had nothing to do with the common man. These ladies singing are a great inspiration. Thanks for sharing.

  • You are so right Rexlv2000. The Russian People have had it tough. The women, with their song is inspirational. Wishing you all the best.

  • I have no clue why this came into my head as I was watching this, but I was thinking how well people from different countries get along, until their governments get involved.

I think it was Mark Twain that said something like, "patriotism is what you give your country all of the time and your government when it deserves it." Well, he probably said it 'more better.'

    Thanks guys for sharing this!

  • Thanks for your comments FSTOPDR.

You are spot on there. Most people you'd meet are civil. We share similar experiences no matter where we come from. Song is one of them and that unites us all.

    Wishing you all the best.

  • I'm relieved about the song. Since I forgot all my Russian, I was afraid that the song was something about the fat guy watching Youtube with the KFC crumbs in his beard and grease stains on his stomach, where the Newcastle Brown bottles start their Olympic tumble down to the floor and rejoin their identical empty twins... all holding up little score cards.

    Yikes, what a visual!
