Just playing this game right now , and just had the cutscene. Yep... did make me cry, having kids probably made me more emotional about it compared if I had played the game before having them. I'd probably been sad but not cried. I could not retain my tears. First time ever a game does that to me. And I have played many...I'm 36
Just in case you weren't joking...they're immortal because they were born in another world. Time runs differently there. Their child, however, was born in this world which makes her age and die normally. Makes perfect sense when you think about it in terms of a fictional work.
I think what really got me in this part was Cooke and Mack. With Cooke calling and calling for Lirum to stay conscious and then Mack's super scream after that was just...so sad and filled with such pain.
I did see the cutscene here, and then I got the game and saw it again on the big screen. Jeepers, I am normally not an emotional guy, but this scene had ME shed a tear or two. By far one of the saddest scenes in any video game to date (aside from Dom's death in Gears 3, that one was also moving) it was so well done, it was amazing. Without a doubt this game captured human emotional drama right on the frigging money.
I've played through this part 3 times and I tear up every time, no one should ever have to watch their child die... And the kids crying? It reminds me of working in hospital... Definitely the best emotional scene in a game ever.
Just saw this a little over an hour ago in the game. It was beautiful. It was hard not to cry. The writers are brilliant the animators pulled off the emotions wonderfully.<3
I've never played this game, and I've never thought that you can think of deaths in games as sad unless you have attachment to the characters, but I'm holding back tears while watching this. Jeez!
@QuietCannon And this is essentialy the first time you see Lirum in the game. I don't have a clue how they managed to create so much emotion in such a scene. The whole game is incredible and definatley deserved a lot more attention.
this game because it happened to be Xbox360 exclusive and didnt have Final Fantasy name on it....well too bad for them, because they missed one of the best (and underrated) games of this console generation....I'm just pissed off that because LO didnt sell that much, there is never going to be sequel either =(....or maybe that is good thing, atleast LO wont go downhill like Final Fantasy has.

This is a real FF title. Final Fantasy: Lost Odyssey. Thank god I purchased Xbox 360 Slim last month's boxing day sale just for this game:]
Lost Odyssey. The only game that ever made me cry. Whoever doesn't cry, or doesn't even feels like crying after watching this has no soul. Just kidding. But seriously, if this doesn't make you cry... WOW.
right firstly i shall say i love this scene and i love this game and when you play the game it has that kinda final fantasy feeling (people will understand what i mean even if i cannot explain it well) but i want to point out to everyone the ONLY person invovled in making this from the final fantasy staff was the music producer who's name i can rmemeber but not spell which i'm sad about but.. what can ya do it's late
Actually, Uematsu(music producer) isn't the only staff from the Final Fantasy series who worked on this game. The man at the helm of this game(Sakaguchi) also created the Final Fantasy series. I believe there are other staffs from the FF series involved as well. They all left SquareEnix when Sakaguchi left and formed the company Mistwalker. LO does have the Final Fantasy feel to it but I'm not surprised. Great game, comparable to the best Final Fantasy games, if not better.
I'm playing the game right now, and i just finished to watch this scene on the game , and i was liek OMG!!!! i had to watch it again somewhere so i took a look at youtube and i just want to say that i LOVE this game !
You have to remember brother...this was basically a Final Fantasy game because it was made by the same people. I owned this on Xbox 360 and it was the most emotional game I have ever played in my life. It was not like playing a game..it was like watching a fucking story and it was beautiful.
@DrakkonTiger Well, u can look up to FF series lately, say that again and be ashamed of what you just said. This game was nothing like FF, because there's no petty couple and not aim for teen. This is serious thinking that could be written in a novel. My point is, LO is the best JRPG I've played and it did not get the rating it deserved, especially after people jump like frogs, shoot, curse, die and respawn in Halo series, they got dam Editor's choice.
lol me too. like i was like DAM!!!!! i cannot recall another game to take me on such an emotional journey. and idk. Its a masterpiece... but i cannot lie. I would like another
No matter what anyone says, I've seen this scene almost a dozen times.. and each time, I cannot hold back the tears..
One of the most emotional scenes from a game, You'll ever encounter. Once you learn about Kaim's past.. and witness the bonds he had with the daughter he couldn't remember, topping it off with the reunion of the two.. just makes this game, The BEST of all time.
This is the best scene in the history of video games. They nailed the voice acting in this game. You know the part where Lirum jumps off the cliff and Kaim and Sarah run after her? Unfortunately, I know that parents losing their child sound EXACTLY like that.
This scene is very sad... But then shortly afterwards you get angry because you have to do a FUNERAL FETCH QUEST!! And then ofcourse... the worlds first FUNERAL MINIGAME.. I swear man. Although I think it would be funny to make a request that people do a bunch of mundane shit before you die like 'wash 10 bums' and then 'pick up 10 cans on the side of the freeway' and of course wave a burning branch for 20 minutes before you get the sequence right at my ceremony... ARGHHH I hate that part
The voices and this scene especially is a lot better and more emotional in Japanese... Cooke and Mack's English voices sound like characters from the rugrats.
umm i think its like both the same sadly ive never played this great looking game (i dont like the xbox 360) but u kinda knw waht will happen. With aeris's death you have to really think about it put yourself in clouds shoes. Aeris is dead , Someone you really care about is gaone forever nover to do anything again. And the music T_T well i hope this might make u think twice.
Music....the music in LO was far more moving in all regards of emotion than anything in FFVII ever was. And as for Aeris....Aeris wasn't Cloud's daughter, who he thought was gone forever. Only to find out that she wasn't dead after all, and that he was a grandfather, just to get there in time for her to die. Sorry. Still not persuaded.
This game is just Pure awsome in every aspect, it has anything you can imagine. Full on action, a little romance, Shit loads of emotion. Its by far one of the best console Rpg game there is.
wow, what a scene. i hope they make a movie out of this game. the gameplay was a bit crap (fighting), but the story line was absolutely amazing and that is what made me wanna finish the game. i hope they make a movie out of it.

This is sad but no tears, when Zack died on crisis core I cried my eyes out.
JamForNoReason 2 years ago
I disagree. In my opinion, Crisis Core was maudlin compared to Lost Odyssey.
Zack's death was hammed up in Crisis Core, and it was made worse by the fact that most everyone who played it knew it was coming.
In FFVII itself, it's far more devastating, because he's just mowed down with no fanfare whatsoever.
This scene blindsides you, which gives it much more of an impact. Again, in my opinion.
