I Love Chelsi Smith.

3 of these ladies were exceptional beauties,1977,1989,and 1995.Chelsi Smith was by far the most gorgeous.In the years where Texas won 5 in a row i believe only 1 win was really legit and that was 1989.The women of South Carolina are by far the most beautiful in the USA.

I think Gretchen was shafted at Universe. She should've gotten 1RU. Don't think anyone was gonna beat Angela Visser, but Gretchen was better than that. She was underscored the whole evening.

In my opinion Chelsi was the best Miss USA from Texas. She went on to Miss Universe.

In USA, Texas is the beauty pageant powerhouse with 9 Miss USA crowns, 3 Miss America titles, and 1 Miss Teen USA winner. Second is California with 5 Miss USA crowns, 6 Miss America titles, and 1 Miss Teen USA winner.

Why was Dick Clarke saying Texas was

1st runner up so many times at Miss USA 1985 as if Texas did not win in 1977?. The only year I think Texas should not have won is 1987 but that would have screwed up the 5 in a row win. I would have also of said 1986 but It was a tight competition that year and we all know that Halle Berry would have made a beautiful Miss USA 1986 too!

It was Bob Barker, not Dick Clark. And he said it because Miss Texas was runner up in both 1982 and 1983. Up until then Texas was not the powerhouse that it is now. Laura was only the second winner fromTexas.

1977's Kim Tomes really won us over here in Charleston, SC. We were pulling for her all week after seeing her on TV and in rehearsals during the week with Bob Barker. The crowd was magnetized to her and to see her crowned in person at the auditorium that Saturday night was unforgettable.

There's that gold digging bitch Shana Moakler, who is married to Travis Barker & claims to be a former Miss USA. She didn't win, she was runner up. I had to spend a weekend with her once...she was a HORRIBLE, NASTY person.

Yes! She was first runner-up to Crystle Stewart at Miss Texas USA and was in the audience to cheer her on at Miss USA!... and now a few months later she finally won TX USA herself :) A shame that Crystle couldn't be there to crown her...

yes. Halle was then sent to Miss World 1986 and was a finalist and then rest is history.

The fabulous "Texas Aces"... Guy Rex had a stranglehold on the pageant in the 80's with well prepared powerhouse competitors... Courtney Gibbs is drop dead gorgeous!

it was a double victory for GuyRex in 1988 as Diana Magaña, Miss California USA was first runner-up and trained under them and later on competed in Miss World 1988 and was a semi-finalist.
