when I am recording with camtasia my computer lags. Am I the only one with this, is there a way to fix this, or does my computer suck (I think number 3)
Hi Bill, I tried out the settings you used to get great quality for Camtasia but whenever I record now, I see that the text becomes "deluded," that is, in the preview. This started happening before I switched my settings to this. Any mentions on how to fix this problem?
Hm, well I can't find the right word to describe it, but the text quality (not the writing text, the text that's on there (i.e. "media generators") is very hard to read once you see the video preview.
Hm, I tried this method but I still got the same results. Could it be my screen resolution? When I first got Camtasia, the text quality was just fine. I have my screen resoultion at 800 x 600 pixels. Should I try re-installing Camtasia?
what would you render it to if you were going to put the AVI on dvd shortly after? really need to know, would love to hear back from you when you get a chance. thanks in advance.
man thats perfect i'll prob order one soon when I have a bit of money, as long as ntsc wil play on my pc in uk which I assume it will. couldnt be more perfect thanks so much man.
I got a question :S I did exactly everything u said for the "produce Video" thingy as u said and it still doesn't work for utube when I try to upload it! wat do I do?
dude can u help me with something? I want to lets say record a video... just on the screen or something like that. what should i set the Video Configuration to? Manual or to Automatic... and if it's for manual what frame rate? and also what video compression should i use from the Video Confguration Window? there are more compressors, also some of them use key frame every ____ frames. Please tell me :DDDD
In Camtasia Recorder, select 'tools', then 'options', then 'video' tab, then set video configuration to manual, and enter frame rate number. 15 is a good start.
The ability of Camtasia to capture at the entered frame rate will depend on your computer processing power, cpu speed, ram, and disk space.
Hey Bill thanks for the vid. But i uploaded my vid and set the format to 640x480 and it's still blurry and I didn't get the "watch in high quality" button. Can you help?
PLEASE! how do we get rid of teh green border around the zoom-in? i dont mind it in the preview, but in the actual final cut - you dont have it and i dont want it either, i checked the settings and removed all the check marks, but the green border is still there! plz plz how do we remove it??
Bill you are an excellent teacher. Have you created any tutorial DVD's to sell to the public? If not, you should. Your explanations are better than anything I have come across.
Can I download that software?
anna1caroline2 8 months ago
@anna1caroline2 You can download the 30 day trial. After that, you have to purchase it. Find it with a google search.

@guerillabill I was hoping that I could find one that I could download but not for trial..
anna1caroline2 8 months ago
@anna1caroline2 Try camstudio. It's a screen capture program and it's free. Search google for it.

my computer lags too when im recording with camtasia

That can happen if you capture large areas of the screen, have a slow computer, low ram or slow disk drives

rudolph502 2 years ago
I record hours of video with Camtasia every week - on many different computers - and never see any lagging problems, even on slow laptops.
You probably have something else going on on your computer slowing things down.
Try doing a full virus scan first.
guerillabill 2 years ago
I will, thanks for responding

make sure theres a lot of memory in your computer. Mine used to lag, and then I put in more memory, and it runs smoothly :)

I don't know what you mean by 'deluded'
guerillabill 3 years ago
Hm, well I can't find the right word to describe it, but the text quality (not the writing text, the text that's on there (i.e. "media generators") is very hard to read once you see the video preview.
EpidemicTutorials 3 years ago
If you have adjusted the text size using windows video preferences, you can re-adjust those if you like.
On my videos, I set the text size for windows to be large as these seem to give best results when recording computer screens.
guerillabill 3 years ago
Hm, I tried this method but I still got the same results. Could it be my screen resolution? When I first got Camtasia, the text quality was just fine. I have my screen resoultion at 800 x 600 pixels. Should I try re-installing Camtasia?
Anyways, I enjoy the support Bill.

My screen resolution is set to 1650X1050 to fit my widescreen monitor. I use sizer to size the window I record to 1024X768.
I render that to 640X480 for uploading to YouTube.
guerillabill 3 years ago
what would you render it to if you were going to put the AVI on dvd shortly after? really need to know, would love to hear back from you when you get a chance. thanks in advance.
1xxxxxxdreamxxxxxx1 3 years ago
For output to DVD, the screen needs to be recorded in 4:3 aspect ratio, then downsized to 640X480.
You will also need to adjust the clip's properties in your video editing program before you send to a DVD authoring program.
See my 'Camtasia to DVD' training DVD on my site for more details and the steps to take.

1xxxxxxdreamxxxxxx1 3 years ago
I set my screen resolution to 1680X1050 because I have a large widescreen monitor.
I capture Camtasia videos at 1024 X 768.
If your screen resolution is set to 800 X 600, the resolution is quite low.
guerillabill 3 years ago
this is pretty good but still blurry.

how do you change the frames per second that it records? with camtasia 4...
BeatlesArUs 3 years ago
In Camtasia Recorder, select 'options', 'video', and enter a value of 30 or less for frames per second.
15 is a good setting for computer screen captures.
guerillabill 3 years ago
thanks
BeatlesArUs 3 years ago
Help are you meant to use sizer at 800by600 or 1024by768 and then upload the video at 640by480>>>>?
QasimAnwar135 3 years ago
When using sizer, size 800X600 if the area to be recorded will fit. Otherwise size to 1024X768.
Then produce the video as 640X480 and upload that for best results with youtube.
guerillabill 3 years ago
is also more frame/sec better? like is 1000 the best?
OutlandishEmpire 3 years ago
30 frames per second is the best, but with Camtasia, recording at 15 frames per second, and rendering at 5 or 10 fps, will give good results.
guerillabill 3 years ago

Generally, setting the recorder to automatic will get excellent results.
Use the techsmith screencapture codec for best results when capturing and producing computer screen activity.
guerillabill 3 years ago
how do i change frame rate the most i get when i record is 2.5 - 3.0 even though i have it set from 33 - 60
250lespaul 3 years ago
In Camtasia Recorder, select 'tools', then 'options', then 'video' tab, then set video configuration to manual, and enter frame rate number. 15 is a good start.

Where can i change the dimnensions of the recording?
WSummers1994 3 years ago
In Camtasia 5, as soon as you import the Camtasia recording for editing, you will be asked whether to change the dimension of the recording.
guerillabill 3 years ago
Thanks, when i made my video, it didnt have as good quality as yours, but i followed everything in the tutorial... Why is this?
WSummers1994 3 years ago
The problem could be related to the display settings of your video card.
Be sure the card is set to display at native resolution of the card.
Also, record at a 4:3 aspect ratio - 800X600 or 1024 X768, and have camtasia recorder save the file as .avi format, not camrec format.
guerillabill 3 years ago
yeah but when i convert it to .wmv it looks green red and yellow..
willie708 3 years ago
Sounds like you may need to update your wmv encoder. It is free from Microsoft.
guerillabill 3 years ago
whatrs the best and free i mean free like hyper cam not like some kind of trail
akonfan111 3 years ago
The best is Camtasia, but it is not free.
There are others, but they do produce as good video, nor do they have as many editing features.
If you are just doing it to play with, free is good. If you are producing training products to resale, Camtasia is the way to go.

is there a way to make the panning to be faster? if not ill just use the zoom effects in sony vegas to a certain spot.
karuk7575 3 years ago
In the Zoom window, you can set the speed of the zoom, starting at 'instant' up to several seconds.
The default is 2 seconds.
guerillabill 3 years ago
Camtasia is a really neat program, I'm still learnig the ins and outs, but what I know so far is really cool!

its really hard to use zoom-n-pan
jonhwolf 3 years ago
I disagree. The Zoom and pan feature of Camtasia Studio is extremely easy to use.
You simply click 'zoom', then resize the window to size and location you want, and click 'finish'.
It takes less than 10 seconds.
I include many zoom and pans in my Camtasia movies, and they are very easy to do.
guerillabill 3 years ago
Hey Bill thanks for the vid. But i uploaded my vid and set the format to 640x480 and it's still blurry and I didn't get the "watch in high quality" button. Can you help?
nuttyinc 3 years ago
To view your video in high quality, add &fmt=18 to the end of the Youtube URL for your video.
To always view videos in high quality, log into your YouTube account, and under the 'video playback quality', set it to always play high quality.
The 'view high quality' link will not normally show on YouTube videos - even if they are in high quality.
guerillabill 3 years ago
how do you get "watch in High Quality" under your video?
Zachzach103 3 years ago
Upload your videos in 640X480 resolution, and YouTube will enable the 'view in high quality' link (when it becomes active at YouTube).
guerillabill 3 years ago
When i upload with wmv, it says invalid format. please help
r4ng3d0wner 3 years ago
wmv is Windows Media Video and is one of the formats recommended by YouTube.
Be sure you actually uploaded the wmv file and not the camrec file.
If it still doesn't work for you, download and install the latest version of Windows Media Encoder (free from Microsoft) and try again.

Yes. To blur text (ie to hide a password), use the 'callout' feature in Camtasia, and use the 'blur' callout.

Does it contain Filter like WMM?
GeonTrinity 3 years ago
Camtasia has cut, paste, zoom, add additional tracks, add call outs, alter volume, add titles, add transitions, PIP with live video, and more.
Camtasia is optimized for creating screen capture movies.
If you need to edit camcorder video, use Sony Movie Studio.

Try mov. You'll see whether it works for you.
I've put 200+ camtasia videos on the web, and for me, wmv produces the best results.
guerillabill 3 years ago
For QuickTime (MOV) movie file these settings gives u best results on Youtube:
Video Codec: H.264
Colors: True Color (24-bit)
Frame Rate: 15,00
Size: 320x240
Audio Codec: MPEG-4 Audio
Audio Format: 48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo (mono if u dont use music)
Watermark: Enabled ( if u want to use it)
