@ptmccain I used floor oil soap to clean the cosmoline off of mine followed by Scotts Liquid Gold when I recieved my Garand a few years ago. I re-coat it and rub it in again every 6 months or so. It truely does wonders on these old rifles. Glad someone else figured out that trick!
@ChrsGuit Interesting, thanks. I've had my best results since I did this video by using mineral spirits to clean the wood, followed by a number of applications of boiled lindseed oil, then followed with a few coats of beeswax/BLO combo paste.
@ptmccain I recently bought a Winchester model 12 Trench Gun. I was trying to get it to match the walnut finish on my Garand, and instead of a couple dozen coats of blo, I did a mixture of red mahogany and red oak stain in 2 coats, followed each coat with a rub with steel wool, then did 2 coats of linseed oil. When it had dried I saturated it with liquid gold, then about a week later did a light coating of caranuba (sp?) wax... turned out to be an exact match and only a few hours of work
@bber45 Absolutely, just about every Garand that saw any use has replaced parts. These are the real war horses that probably have interesting stories they could tell, if they could speak. So, if the bore is clean and rifling good, you are all set to have a great time with a real piece of American history. Enjoy!
@JohnFO5 Same here! But it is kind of frustrating because so often when I search for Garand videos, I get either airsoft, or worse yet, videos game Garands.
just beutiful, I actually would like to get one do you know if they have less expencive referbished or modern remake models?

That is a very nice Service Grade. Mine is from 12/43, but has the CMP replacement birch stock and the Greek Park.
Wanna trade?
dreiband 4 months ago
@dreiband Thanks for watching, when you refer to the Greek Park is that what I see when I notice that some Garands have parkerizing that is black.
