Barack Obama has been hobbled and unable to work against BP because of moves he made in June 2009 at the G8 in Italy. BP was in the middle of Deepwater exploration deals with both America and Libya. BP had already made deals with the US government and they were allies on the Deepwater drilling deals. Libya would not move on the deal without the release of the Lockerbie Bomber.

I only blame him for the lack of regulatory oversight and the clean up response. Obama will not relax governmental rules to get this clean up done it's not in his nature. I don't like this pool of money idea, where is the pool of money from the banksters to pay back people that were robbed of their life savings while the banksters prosper from bailouts by the same people they stole the money from?
It's lack of government control over public land or what effect public land. I agree there should be no limit on liability. There was a criminal act in that they (the platform management) continued to drill while an obvious major problem existed. That killed 11 people.
isn't it true that the gov. allowed bp to drill off the shore of america. Not knowing the consequences when money makes you blind. These companies are the ones taking us back in time, instead of the future we are suppose to be in now.
Accident by BP? How about taking shortcuts and ignoring safety regulations in order to make profits quicker? BP directly ignored the advice of its on-rig employees and corporate pushed a decision through that ultimately led to the disaster. This is the evil side of unregulated capitalism. People abandon morality to pursue profits and then look for bailouts when things go wrong from those very governmental institutions they condemned for wanting to increase regulations.
Ron Paul's positions come from a sober and dutiful respect for the Constitution of the United States of America and therefore his views transcend the Republicrat party to deal with issues on a moral and ethical level. His recent appeals have brought to light many of the villains dwelling within the government, such as the Federal Audit. Americans MUST hold their politicians accountable, so be sure to vote out those senators who opposed the Fed Audit; they are clearly an enemy of prosperity.
How can they accuse him of having a conflict of interest? What about most politicians who vote in favor of their campaign contributors mainly big corporations.
I wish I had half the wisdom and knowledge Ron Paul has when it comes to proper role of government. Individual freedom and a government limited to the confines of the constitution are principles one can be proud to fight and die for. He woke me up in 2008 - I will now ALWAYS vote for liberty, not who's got a better shot at winning or some media darling.
i disagree with dr paul on this one, i dont like offshore drilling because this is the kind of stuff that is bound to happen and i hope he changes his mind on it.
Sure, you may not like the risks that are associated with extracting energy resources from our planet, but without them, you and I would be living on much less. So remember that when you fill your car up with gasoline, or buy that new ipad, or go to walmart and get your cheap goods (that are shipped on container ships that use fuel), or fly to that favorite vacation destination.
The question really is, would you be willing to pay double for everything?
The issue I see is, did HARRP or a similar technology cause or magnify alot of our weather related disasters? Also, was this done intentionally by BP or a connected party?
I'm all for a free market, but that only works if we have a true and complete free market. I'm also very much in support of what Ron Paul stands for.
I got into an argument with somebody today about what Dr. Paul talks about here. I don't understand how the president has become responsible for every little thing that goes wrong in this country. Even fighting obesity has become an issue in the White House. This is crazy. The president's job is to command the Armed Forces, defend the Constitution, and act as a diplomat. What ever happened to concerns being addressed by state governments and the private sector through the courts?
@AngryPenguin27 Ron paul has said it himself, with private property and a proper economic feedback mechanism we wouldn't be in this mess then does a 180 and says government shouldn't be blamed. There is a problem here. Either you have private ownership or government, how can you not blame government? Same thing for obesity, ever since the government got involved into fighting obesity, the levels of obesity have increased. Wether it's direct or indirect doesn't change the cause. Ron is conflicted
You ARE kidding, right? Otherwise, you must be trolling.
Their stock has plummeted since the first day of the accident. They will pay billions for all the damage done including the 11 people killed in the original explosion. They are being scrutinized wherever they do business all over the world, which will ultimately raise their cost of doing business in the future. Why in the hell would they do it on purpose? What would be their motivation for doing so?
@myhipsi its too complicated for me to explain it. watch the colbert report or the jon stewart daily show and youll notice both of them make horns signs. this is because the rich people of the world and the entertainers and all of this, use the horn sign and 666 sign (a ok) to show theyre on the same side. Actors do this when they sit on the tonight show or the dave letterman show, presidents do this when they give speeches and congressman give this on the house floor. the hand signs occult.
the real question is how much is gonna come out.... figure out how much is down there.... on sept 11 09 O_o.... the ny times posted a story about bp finding a huge oil field under the gulf.. In the story "BP declined to estimate the size of the new reserve, but a company executive said that it could be bigger than the three billion barrels of oil equivalent, combining oil and gas stocks". If it can be stopped then it needs to, there is no time for bickering about political position. fix it now
What a fucking idiot Ron Paul is being on this issue. Absolutely no understanding of the severity of this issue, nor the complete incompetency being showed by BP.
Most of us watching this video are anti big government but this is one of those few times where you need a strong government to step in and intervene. Kick BP aside and get the fucking job done.
Maybe Ron Paul will rethink his views when that entire region is evacuated after a hurricane rains poison down on the populous.
@psycobetabuckdown But they're not trying. They're letting BP run the show. BP doesn't give a shit for the enviroment, they're trying to get as much oil as they can from this.
Also, maybe you should educate yourself on the issue at hand before being sarcastic. When i refer to poison rain I refer to the chemical dispersent Corexit. You know, the substance banned in most countries that BP are using to keep the oil from the surface(to hide the magnitude of this disaster)... NOT oil.
@z0mgrugbyreturns I couldn't help but laugh when i read your comment, when Ron Paul talks about nonintervention he is referring to foreign policy. You are right about about the corexit though, that is some nasty stuff and will do more harm than good.
@psycobetabuckdown Maybe as a Ron Paul follower you guys would better appreciate knowing that BP broke American law and ignored Compliance regulations from Congress pertaining to the Atlantis platform.
Congress refused BP permission to use Atlantis after failing to meet required safety regulations.
And these are the people you want to trust with the clean up? LMAO
@z0mgrugbyreturns can you name a oil company that the government owns? how the hell is the government going to know how to clean up a mess that they have no expertise in? Ron Paul is right, the legislators that limited BP's liabilty were wrong and corrupt.
@sensay2 I doesn't matter if the government fucking own it or not.
Many nations have offered their help to the American government, Obama refused them all.
The government NEEDS to step in. Your head is in Disney Land if you trust BP to sort out the BIGGEST ENVIROMENTAL DISASTER in US history.
While you Yanks sit around bagging BP the entire world are shaking their heads in disgust at the lack of government intervention in cleaning up this mess.
@z0mgrugbyreturns I don't trust BP , they seem incompetent and only concerned about profit, but I trust our government less because our government doesn't have the equipment or expertise BP does. Maybe our government should not have wrote laws limiting BP's liability, maybe then they would have been more careful in the first place and more diligent in fixing the problem knowing they would be held accountable. And I do understand the severity, the whole gulf is fucked.
@sensay2 If BP was only concerned about profit then they would fix the damn thing ASAP. Do you know how much money and reputation they are losing every minute?
@spol07 It's about the limited cost of PREVENTION vs the unlimited cost of Curing. Their greedy motive is what lead them to take the risks that have created the untenable situation that they unfortunately find themselves facing. Now we'll find out if the greed also prevents them from paying all justifiable damages that they are responsible for since they decided to self insure themselves.
EVERY TIME the federal gov't get's involved it all turns to CRAP! ObaMao cares more concerned about defending his union base and promoting cap & trade crony-corporatism than he cares about the gulf coast.
If ObaMao cared about the gulf coast, he would NOT have waited 50+ days to do ANYTHING and would have called for international help day ONE!
@z0mgrugbyreturns No you don't. You're simply leaving holes in your line of reasoning open for exploitation.
Wether it was done through incompetence doesn't change the fact they are paying for it. It also doesn't change the fact the government limits the liabilities, and also doesn't change the fact the government owns the gulf coast (or limits it's private ownership).
BP is desensitized to it's customers, cooperators simply because the gov SHIELDS them in countless ways.
Private property, not govt regulation, would increase prevention of oil spills or other external costs. Obama can't be blamed solely for failing to stop the oil spill from spreading, there isn't much the government can do besides push money around.
And as for conflict of interest. Peter Schiff explains in his latest video that Ron's promotion of gold investment is not a conflict of interest if he's promoting a currency gold standard.
Once again Dr. Paul reveals that he is the only clear-thinking congressman that exists at the moment. At least, that's the way that it appears. He is not blinded by his party affiliation, because he doesn't really have a party affiliation.
I agree with RP and from the beginning I've thought blaming Obama is worthless. We really should be worried about cleaning this mess up and fixing the hole 100%...then do all the blaming you want later. If anything, Obama should definitely lift all the Fed regulations that stop citizens cleaning up in the wetlands.
@takadi Criminal Negligence requires proof. Saying someone or something is criminally negligent before they are tried and found guilty in a court of law is unjust. Public announcement of a "criminal investigation" was also absolutely inappropriate. If I was BP, I'd sue for defamation. Their stock is falling fast enough as it is.
The public announcement of a criminal investigation was well deserved, especially with such immense property damage. And BP's stock isn't falling fast enough - stakeholders in an irresponsible and reckless company should be punished for bad business decisions
@BiGZaY20 You'll find he believes it's not up to him or the government about what we become independent from, even if he had personal thoughts on the subject of oil-burning.
Well... of that 59% who blames the Government, how many of them blame government for "not doing enough to prevent it", and how many of them blame the Government for "orchestrating and perpetrating the disaster"?
In a freemarket economy when something like this happens the market should be the regulator, not the government. So since BP fucked up, people should stop supporting their product. But since this country has 300+ million citizens, most being idiots we won't do that.
@sethvicious Property rights dont apply to the govt, so it screws with the "market regulation" theme as well. Also, our military is one of BP's best customers. It's a TON of moral hazard that we allow.
@timDOGcrane555 RPs position is that the govt shouldn't own the land to begin with :P Either the localities on the shore should own it, or private ownership. If development there disturbs neighboring property, it would be no different than if your pool leaked and flooded your neighbors property. If they were to build something that might endanger the "affected neighbors", they would have to seek approval of those parties before developing. Property Rights. Can't do it if the govt owns it.
America would be better off if the govt. did not use laws to force oil companies into mile deep water to drill. Wake up govt. did help cause this disaster.
I could listen to this man talk all day long! Pity the dumbed down populous doesn't have the same opinion. Then we might see some real change! Hope he runs in 2012...even if it's just to wake up/educate that X number of more people to the cause of liberty and honest politics.
This is what I love about Ron Paul is he willing to tell you how he feels as also how it is, with no matter what's the outcome! A very Moral man Ron is, makes him more moral then the rest that he is willing put his Neck on the Line for what he believes in.
Yeah ron paul, buying gold when it was $35 an ounce, what does he know eh.
We should listen to the talking point reading rolling heads, they know better than ron paul, they can talk over the top of each other and much faster too.
That's why I like Ron Paul; he's more concerned with what is right and wrong rather then what is Democrat or Republican or what is conservative or liberal.

Do you understand the severity of this spill?
z0mgrugbyreturns 1 year ago
@z0mgrugbyreturns I don't trust BP , they seem incompetent and only concerned about profit, but I trust our government less because our government doesn't have the equipment or expertise BP does. Maybe our government should not have wrote laws limiting BP's liability, maybe then they would have been more careful in the first place and more diligent in fixing the problem knowing they would be held accountable. And I do understand the severity, the whole gulf is fucked.
sensay2 1 year ago
@sensay2 If BP was only concerned about profit then they would fix the damn thing ASAP. Do you know how much money and reputation they are losing every minute?
spol07 1 year ago
@spol07 It's about the limited cost of PREVENTION vs the unlimited cost of Curing. Their greedy motive is what lead them to take the risks that have created the untenable situation that they unfortunately find themselves facing. Now we'll find out if the greed also prevents them from paying all justifiable damages that they are responsible for since they decided to self insure themselves.
Teyec00n 1 year ago
@z0mgrugbyreturns Let the locals handle it!
EVERY TIME the federal gov't get's involved it all turns to CRAP! ObaMao cares more concerned about defending his union base and promoting cap & trade crony-corporatism than he cares about the gulf coast.
If ObaMao cared about the gulf coast, he would NOT have waited 50+ days to do ANYTHING and would have called for international help day ONE!
yakyakyak69 1 year ago 2
@z0mgrugbyreturns No you don't. You're simply leaving holes in your line of reasoning open for exploitation.
Wether it was done through incompetence doesn't change the fact they are paying for it. It also doesn't change the fact the government limits the liabilities, and also doesn't change the fact the government owns the gulf coast (or limits it's private ownership).
BP is desensitized to it's customers, cooperators simply because the gov SHIELDS them in countless ways.
Stick to your guns.

I feel this administration is trying to bankrupt BP.

Girl is very pretty. That is all.

Ron Paul is a true statesman. He is an independent thinker guided by his moral and ethical principles, with a large dose of common sense thrown in.
AnnInFL 1 year ago 3
Once again Dr. Paul reveals that he is the only clear-thinking congressman that exists at the moment. At least, that's the way that it appears. He is not blinded by his party affiliation, because he doesn't really have a party affiliation.
terr547 1 year ago 5
I agree with RP and from the beginning I've thought blaming Obama is worthless. We really should be worried about cleaning this mess up and fixing the hole 100%...then do all the blaming you want later. If anything, Obama should definitely lift all the Fed regulations that stop citizens cleaning up in the wetlands.

takadi 1 year ago
@takadi Criminal Negligence requires proof. Saying someone or something is criminally negligent before they are tried and found guilty in a court of law is unjust. Public announcement of a "criminal investigation" was also absolutely inappropriate. If I was BP, I'd sue for defamation. Their stock is falling fast enough as it is.
gwydion75 1 year ago
@gwydion75

Well... of that 59% who blames the Government, how many of them blame government for "not doing enough to prevent it", and how many of them blame the Government for "orchestrating and perpetrating the disaster"?
gunsandbullhorns 1 year ago
In a freemarket economy when something like this happens the market should be the regulator, not the government. So since BP fucked up, people should stop supporting their product. But since this country has 300+ million citizens, most being idiots we won't do that.
sethvicious 1 year ago
@sethvicious Property rights dont apply to the govt, so it screws with the "market regulation" theme as well. Also, our military is one of BP's best customers. It's a TON of moral hazard that we allow.

Also the government is partly at fault because the government won't let most new drilling on land or shallow water.
timDOGcrane555 1 year ago 4
@timDOGcrane555 RPs position is that the govt shouldn't own the land to begin with :P Either the localities on the shore should own it, or private ownership. If development there disturbs neighboring property, it would be no different than if your pool leaked and flooded your neighbors property. If they were to build something that might endanger the "affected neighbors", they would have to seek approval of those parties before developing. Property Rights. Can't do it if the govt owns it.
