@Xrystus The person who designed him left SEGA shortly after Knuckles Chaotix.

Rumor has it that he took the rights of the character with him, and let Archie continue the character in comic form.

Too bad the Archie comics are just a trainwreck.

@danielallen12 yeah I don't like Archie either~ but I don't think there's much truth to that rumour considering he had a small cameo in Generations

It could be true still, the pictures used in the posters on Sonic Generations are actually sprites from SegaSonic the Hedgehog. (An old arcade game starring Sonic, Mighty and Ray)

SEGA still own the rights to that game, so maybe they are allowed to use imagery from old games, but not create any new sprites/models of Mighty.

@Xrystus Actually, Mighty was supposed to appear in Heroes but they found it hard to create a 3D model of the character so they chose Vector instead. If you think about it, you can kinda see what they mean. With the ball-like shell and the partially hidden face it would be hard for the character to transistion well into CG. Plus, back-to-screen camera angles would literally just be a red shape with legs which they obviously fely wasn't good enough for inclusion to next gen material.
