Hi i have a question can i still become a corpsman although my line scores are only 142? but I back in the philipppines i was a student nurse so thats the reason why i really wanted to become a corpsman?

How likely is it that a Corpsman will get attached to a Marine unit?

@CaptainGaruda you can apply to be a seal but its not likely. first you need to be eligible for top secret clearance.. look up the req's on thats. then get a SEAL contract before you go to boot camp. you wont be placed in a normal boot camp division. also before you ship there is a special forces physical. test flexibility strength stamina etc. and dont forget about the asvab

@rccola2022 Thanks. I also heard that the Hospital Corpsman can also be attached to the Marines. To be assigned to regular marines,not the special force one, I don't need to be eligible for top security clearance, right?

Also, if I want to be assigned to marines, I have to attend the training with the Marines right?

@CaptainGaruda no security clearance is needed to be attached to a Marine division. Although, SOME Marine training will be required in order for you to be properly trained to endure harsh conditions and combat tactics. U.S. Navy Corpsman myself. Good luck if you decide to serve. @schnsaint1 work your ass off in corps school now that the war has ended they dont need so many 8404 corpsman. in my class of 60 they took 4. if however you decide to go in the reserves your chances of getting 8404 are much higher

a field medic corpman can where Marine dress blues, but with the Navy insignias and Navy rankings. the corpman has a choice because they cross train with the navy and the Marines if they are a field medic. so, they surpass Navy standards and have to meet marine standards. I wanted to be a corpman, I did a ton of research and my recruiter showed me.

To my knowledge, no. There have been instances where they wear other Marine uniforms but must be within appearance standards to do so. Why wear another branche's uniform when you can be proud of your own?

@flip2001 My friend is enlisted in the Navy as a Corpsman and he says no but they can wear the working uniforms but they have to make sure they are in Marine standards. He says there has been a few times wear Navy will get to wear Marine Dress Blues but I'm not sure on what occasions that would be and I'm pretty sure it'd be a different MOS it's a definate no for the dress blues though.

no such luck. navy blues are by far the sharpest anyhow. an FMF corpsman wears the marine cammies and pt gear. a corpsman is a sailor no matter what other service he fights with therefore he wears navy blues with pride.

Navy corspman CAN wear marine uniforms however you must be atleast an 8404 corpsman which is an additional 2 month training like boot camp to be FLEET MARINE FORCE. Once at a marine command, you can sign a Marine regs paper and wear all of their uniforms EXCEPT their dress blues. If your not in the navy and not even a corspman you have a long way to go. You have to go through boot camp, corpschool, then FMTB. I wish you the best of luck. I am a corspman if you have any questions let me know.

also one more thing, going marine corps regs is only for the marine command you are stationed at. If you switch to a navy command you cannot continue the marine regs there. If you go to another marine command you must fill out another permissin slip to be marine regs.

Hey "2012"--I hope I gave you the best recommendation. I was a Corpsman with the Marines. I went on training and patrols and did everything that the 0311s did, but our Mission--our goal--was completely different. The Marines' Mission: Use squad tactics and weapons and so forth to overcome an enemy. MY Mission: Give medical support to them during their Mission. If they got hurt, my job as Doc was to give first aid, get them evac'd to a rear area. I loved my job. God has a plan for you. Ask

A lot of really good advice here...but my two cents worth is this: Make sure you're recruiter knows you want to be an HM and that you want to be an FMF corpsman. Do your homework on this or you may not get what you want. Good luck.
