@enka1980 Yeah he's great in the King's Speech.. but there are so many more films where he actually is better though, even better as Mr. Darcy!! I love him the most in Apartment Zero and Trauma.. Thriller is one of his best genre he can play! And Comedy as well :D .. muuahaha I love his comment : "I'm such a dramaqueen!" XD
If you are a true fan of P & P you yearn for some closure and not just a damn wedding. So I found Linda Berdoll's sequels. She is really good. The heat between Elizabeth or "Lizzy" as he calls her and Mr. Darcy is outstanding. There is more steam than a sauna.
I think that Matthew MacFadyen's portrayal of Mr. Darcy's role is better that Colin Firth (no offense but he is better as Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones). MacFadyen gave a more "masculine air" that is very suitable for Mr. Darcy's role. MacFadyen's rendition for Mr. Darcy is remarkable because of the sudden twist; from being a quiet, boastful, and harsh man, to a very adoring (and truly handsome) man.<3
prodigyvioloin - didn't you realise that Mark Darcy in bridget jones' diary IS MR DARCY !? Bridget Jones is a modern day take on pride and prejudice. They did the same with Emma when they made the film 'Clueless !'. Great film that was too BTW !
Thx 4 asking; Helen Fielding admitted when she released the diary that she 'shamelessly stole the plot'. Not enough words 4 me 2 explain fully but;
bridget has loving mum, rude silly mum who is pushing her into marriage. meets darcy who is rude to her so she hates him. she falls in love with the naughty wickham (hugh grant) who sleeps around and leaves her in trouble in thailand. darcy saves her but she doesn't know and when she finds out she loves him for it. then they get together !
if you still don't get it, google it - there's loads. i happened to study austen and there are quite a few short essays comparing austen's originals and the newer films which are loose reworkings of them. clueless is a great one 'cause no-one realises they are watching a classic and introduced a whole bunch of young girls to austen! hope this helped ?
Thank you very much for your thorough explanation, that's was more than I could expect! To study Austen, that must be a dream study, mustn't it? :-)
I understand the connection now, in my mind I just couldn't think of anything else but the fact that there are FIVE sisters in P&P, and only one woman in BJ. But now I see the connection, thanks to you!
well i like them both but macfadyen did play it better but i think that kira knightly didnt do a good job i like this girl way way better but i still like kira but not in p&p:(
MacFadyen was like a lost & sad puppy! He was not masculine at all! Colin Firth was harsh, then mellowed out perfectly & so much more noticeably than MacFadyen. MacFadyen's emotional shift was so badly performed! I am sure most people(and critics) would agree that Colin Firth is THE DARCY and no one can dominate his presence... I think all the other Darcys should just stop trying all together, because Firth will never be forgotten in this role for a very very long time!
@iraqilynn Mathew is not a Mr. Darcy at all! In fact I really do not like the movie at all as Keira isn't a Lizzie either!! Jennifer and Colin are THE Mr. Darcy and Lizzy bennet!! BTW, I love his expressions in this scene, he really needed to keep himself down for not laughing out loud or even smiling.. I do love it!! And Colin will never be forgotten as Mr. Darcy for the rest of his life imo.. something he really doesn't like to be remembered off lmao!
Does anyone have all the words to "Lizzy's version" of this song? I have an italian, a german,a weird english translation, and Charlotte Churches version but not the one from the movie.
I saw what you have posted. What you hear in the movie is is only the very last stanza of the song though and I was hoping to find someone with the whole "Lizzy-translation" of Mozart's "voi che sapete".
Lizzy only sings the last stanza of the song in the series. However if you are looking for an English translation of voi che sapete, I know Charlotte Church used one. So if you google that, you should be able to find it.
@vielzeit But does the entire version of this song exist somewhere? With all the words from start to finish of the English version of "Voi Che Sapete" that Lizzie is singing? Or just the one line from the movie? I haven't been able to find it either.
The closest version I've come across is below: You who have tasted love's mystic spell, What is this sorrow naught can dispel? (x2) Fair dame or maiden, none else may know, My heart o'erladen, why is this so? What is this yearning, these trembling fears, Rapturous burning, melting in tears? While thus I languish, wild beats my heart, Yet from my anguish I would not part, I seek a treasure Fate still denies, Naught else will pleasure, Naught else I prize...
Thank you so much, this is exactly what I was looking for! Sorry for the thumbs down on your post below. I was trying to hit the reply button and the cable on my mouse got stuck and I hit the spam button by accident (twice!) Where did you find this translation? Thanks again!
I'm ever sighing, I know not why, near unto dying, when none are by, My heart is riven night, morn and eve, But ah 'tis heaven, thus, thus to grieve! You who have tasted love's mystic spell, What is this sorrow naught can dispel?(x2)
Admittedly, Lizzy sings "Say ye who borrow, love's fleeting spell, what is this sorrow naught can dispel?" rather than "You who have tasted...", but the rest of the language seems appropriate for the Regency period (compared with Charlotte Church's version).
AAAAAAAAAAargh! this is the better moment in the movie, and Colin Firth is so cute, wow! He has an amazing little smile and an intensity in those eyes, crazy!!
I've been trying to find this piece on iTunes and have gotten all kinds of wrong leads. Anyone know what opera or piece of music this song is set to? I'd be grateful for the help!
