Wow... Now I´m crying.... this is the saddest scene between Sam and Dean. I love this brotherly love... ^^ I think I´m just like Dean to my little Sister sometimes. I try to protect her everytime from everything and everyone.... I love her so much.
To date this when thrown in conjunction with the scene where Sam dies is Jensens strongest acting. This is heart and soul crushing. Sans best acting I'd say is the latest season finale where he SPOILIER portrays three characters flawlessly. The Sam that remembers Lucifer's cage was particularly good.

A harrowing scene - Dean resorting to anger to vent his feelings as he so often does, and he's such a complex character I can never quite figure out if he protects his brother out of love, mostly, or to fulfill his sense of duty to his Dad.
Likewise the deal he makes - is it self sacrifice, or selfishness? He can't handle Sam being dead, but gives little thought to how Sam would handle Dean's trade off.
Sam and Dean are brilliantly written, brilliantly acted, characters, imo.
@trec1234 I think its a little bit of both. I think he protects Sam because of what he went through in his childhood (with the shtriga almost killing Sam) and the fact that he never wants to let his dad down again. And also, the fact that he does love his brother. Very much.
@youaremylife221 You forget the fact that he was basically a father figure to Sam. John may not have done it intentionally but he had never really been fatherly to Sam and Dean was always there disciplining him and looking out over him. To me, it seems that Sam feels more guilty when Dean chews him out then having fights with his dad as well.

Omg!!! I'd seen the scene where Dean talks to dead Sammy many times, but had not seen the scene before with Bobby. God it's so emotional, I cried from when Dean shouted at Bobby to leave, right to the end of the vid!!
i remember when i was watching charmed on TNT...after that was supernatural and i didnt even know what it is so i checked the describtion and it said bloody mary..that was the first episode ever that i watched of supernatural,that started it all i remember covering my eyes cause i thought it was scary, that will be always my favorite episode :)
@analiz12100 When I was watching Charmed I thought that when future Chris died it was pretty sad but it is downright depressing when Sam dies. Not only because Sammy is a likable character but all the emotion behind it. Something that was missing in charmed when Future Chris died. In fact the only one that had showed any emotion in it at all had been Leo and the others didn't even really react. Piper showed more emotion with Prue's death then with her own future son.

If his brother wasn't there, he'd be plain crazy but if you noticed, the last new episode that aired, he had to dig into the wound in his hand which is a coping mechanism for whenever he sees Lucifer. Don't get me wrong, he is happy to be out but seeing Lucifer and being told that he is still in hell would shake anyone lose. And losing Bobby won't help matters...
@analiz12100 He cut himself by accident when he fell on glass!!!! He doesn't cut himself. They stitched it up and everything and the only reason why Sam uses that injury as a coping mechanism is because Dean pressed on it using his own experience of torture in hell to help his brother through what he was going through. Sam is not cutting but at the same time he is trying to deal with everything. It's gonna be a lot harder though from what I saw in ep 7.10

He dug his finger on his wound enough to draw blood so that he could see reality and found that Lucifer was just a hallucination but he isn't a cutter. He fell on a piece of glass and got stitches before that. Thanks to Dean he found that pressing on the same wound will get rid of his hallucinations. I repeat though that Sammy is not a cutter.
if my older sister died i would probably do this exact sam thing. even though shes miles away. we've been through so much together that if i lost her i would act just like dean

My parents fight a lot and it can get pretty bad, but its nice to just turn on my music or watch an episode of supernatural or something and kind of escape from it all. I guess say when I look at sam and dean's life my life doesn't seem so bad in comparison. And you can also like relate to a character's problems and stuff, your right it is pretty awesome.

Jensen did such an awesome job!!! my lil bro died in march and i just watched this over and over-especially him talkin to Sam. i can relate to Dean in so many ways and i this fictional character was the only one i had that could relate. My brother was is one person in the whole world that understood me and we were so much alike it would blow ur mind. we always talked about how we have never met another brother and sister that are as close as we are. he was suppose to give my eulogy. 28yrs old!
im completly new to this show i was home sick from school one day and there was nothing on so i turned supernatural on, and all i have to say is why didnt i watch this show sooner? now i love supernatural.
@lilytreepad Keep watching :-D I fell in love with it, I'd been watching Heroes on this site called Cucirca and then it got cancelled, so I started watching How I Met Your Mother but I caught up on that pretty fast so I started with Supernatural haha. Within three/four months I had the first five Seasons watched just in time for Season six, and I swear it's brilliant. Season four, for me, was perhaps one of the weaker Seasons but only because it had such new story elements. It's worth watching.
The way he looks when he's talking to Bobby. He looks worst than Sam, like some part of him died and all thats left is a zombie or this empty shell. *Kudos to Jensen for this.*
I can watch this over and over. I always feel sorry for him.! It's such a sad scene. But Jensen did a great job, didn't he? I cry along with him. The whole scene.
@BlizzardRush I don't know if you've found out yet, so I'll tell you that that episode with Dean and the explosion is Season 2 episode 10 'Hunted' One of my favorite episodes, it's one with the character Gordon...episodes with him always strengthen the brothers characters a bit more.
@Trini0408 I think Dean's first instinct is to yell for Sam to make sure he's okay. Any other time, it's Dean's mental need to be close to his family, you know, like, "Maybe if I yell loud enough, he'll come running around the corner."
This is the best tv series ever made! They deserve a lot of credit they better win awards soon! no way in hell am i letting VampD win over Supernatural..this show is epic and its the only one that makes me cry and laugh

I remember that Jensen said it was hard for him to do this scene because Jared and Jensen formed such a special bond even though it's fake it's hard to have to be faced with Jared acting dead. Sometimes reality and acting can mix and it's hard not to envision that Jared really is dead
Kim Manners also said that for the filming of it they went into a secluded room with no lights no nothing and the only people in there was Jensen, Jared and Kim who directed it.
Love how Jensen's accent comes out so much in this scene because he's focused on the emotional commitment, which was spot on. Jared and Jensen are both amazing actors, but I'm sort of glad this show's more of a cult thing -- I feel privileged watching it, like I'm part of some special club of awesome people who are allowed to see all the marvelous cast members at work.
:'( I bawl my eyes out the whole scene. Even though I know he comes back I still cry so hard. And I feel so sorry for Dean when he says 'I had one job, and I screwed it up.'
everyone keeps talking about how great Jensen's acting is in this scene and i'm not denying his awesome acting skills but just imagine how hard it was for Jared...i mean he had to lay there with a blank look on his face without moving or even twitching or breathing while Jensen is having an emotional break down right next to him...p.s.~nothing in this comment used sarcasm
I hate the whole thing about Sam dying and Dean's heartbreak about it. Thank you for posting though, cause I can't stop watching. But It kills me when he says "you dont think ive payed enough," and gestures to where Sam is. Ugh! it also kills me that (of course) hes talking to dead Sammy:(

Not only is Jensen's acting brilliant here, he actually looks like a guy whose been crying his eyes out and had no sleep or food for a couple days. Kudos to the make-up artist and to Jensen who really was crying his eyes out (probably for several takes).
Poor Dean that is so sad.. I dont know what I would have done without my older sister when I was younger..

im completly new to this show i was home sick from school one day and there was nothing on so i turned supernatural on, and all i have to say is why didnt i watch this show sooner? now i love supernatural.

@lilytreepad Keep watching :-D I fell in love with it, I'd been watching Heroes on this site called Cucirca and then it got cancelled, so I started watching How I Met Your Mother but I caught up on that pretty fast so I started with Supernatural haha. Within three/four months I had the first five Seasons watched just in time for Season six, and I swear it's brilliant. Season four, for me, was perhaps one of the weaker Seasons but only because it had such new story elements. It's worth watching.

@BlizzardRush I don't know if you've found out yet, so I'll tell you that that episode with Dean and the explosion is Season 2 episode 10 'Hunted' One of my favorite episodes, it's one with the character Gordon...episodes with him always strengthen the brothers characters a bit more.

@Trini0408 I think Dean's first instinct is to yell for Sam to make sure he's okay. Any other time, it's Dean's mental need to be close to his family, you know, like, "Maybe if I yell loud enough, he'll come running around the corner."

I remember that Jensen said it was hard for him to do this scene because Jared and Jensen formed such a special bond even though it's fake it's hard to have to be faced with Jared acting dead. Sometimes reality and acting can mix and it's hard not to envision that Jared really is dead
Kim Manners also said that for the filming of it they went into a secluded room with no lights no nothing and the only people in there was Jensen, Jared and Kim who directed it.

Love how Jensen's accent comes out so much in this scene because he's focused on the emotional commitment, which was spot on. Jared and Jensen are both amazing actors, but I'm sort of glad this show's more of a cult thing -- I feel privileged watching it, like I'm part of some special club of awesome people who are allowed to see all the marvelous cast members at work.

And I know GG is not the best or most serious show! BUT Ed Westwick deserves 1 too! This is bull.. There are some actors on abc, cbs and other stations that arent half as good as those on CW!

Not only is Jensen's acting brilliant here, he actually looks like a guy whose been crying his eyes out and had no sleep or food for a couple days. Kudos to the make-up artist and to Jensen who really was crying his eyes out (probably for several takes).
