  • Fine rendition, bad (forte)piano

  • who needs youporn when you have this?

  • extremely beautiful!

  • Technique is great, but she is playing Scarlatti like Tchiakovsky

  • @Rugghead98 I think the style is actually quite nice, especially since she is playing on a piano.

  • Marvellous!!!

I see a great technique with the fingers to obtain a "clavicembalistic" sound...(that it is the Bach tecnique..if I am not wrong)....

The sound is perfect and your interpretation is vigorous and full of vital energy...

    Compliments!!

  • What an amazing performance. Absolutely electrifying!

  • Fabulously beautiful playing...

  • @ dman211 This is simply gorgeous playing here. Of course Mrs. Koblar is also a gorgeous woman but even without any video, this performance is still second to none. But yeah, you're quite right.....................................................

  • What could ever be sexier and more appealing than a stunning young woman making such beautiful music with such grace?

  • Bravissimo!

  • This is EXCELLENT

  • Irena - this is so good!!!!

You can make even a 'Stoneway' sing and become a 'musical instrument' and not only remain an 'advanced percussion device'....!

Hearing this from a harpsichord prof (!) - admitting such in public - is hopefully 'coming home' (!)

Your sense of form, articulation and dynamics paired in a well-timed phrase is very positive indeed - and I get really pleased when listening to you!

  • Beautiful!! Very Nice! Good Sounds!

  • I love those scrunchy chords! :o)

  • extremelly good performance!!!

  • My Dear Irena,

No one would think any less of you if you didn't have the music right in front of you. In the mean time I'm flabbergasted that you have it all memorized.

    Bravo!

  • Thank you for this good performance and the camera work is also very good.

  • Wow, she is very very very very good

  • I've watched this four times and still can't close my mouth..

  • how is 0:45 - 0:49 possible. She's awesome

  • @imedia4u

Here in Texas we call that a twitchy trigger finger.

  • @SavedbyJaco is that suppose to be a compliment or a insult?

  • @Atrena2000

Here in Texas we'd call that a joke.

Well to be totally fair, here in my apartment we'd call that a joke.

I have nothing bad to say about the performer in this video, so I can only assume it's a compliment.

If you think that it's a insult against Texans, then as a fellow Texan I can only tell you to lighten up.

  • @Atrena2000 nazi!

  • this is something i could only dream of being able to play!! amazing job!

  • 10 completely crazy and irrational people who dont like the video...

  • @ibk1980 no 11 average pianists who probably resent the fact that Irena can play this and they can't. ouch.

  • Coming along nicely. Imagine how much better she will get with a few lessons!

  • WOW. awesome. scarlatti usually bores me, but this performance really held my interest - i played it 4 times before writing my review....... ms. koblar is really a major talent.

  • Thanks beautiful perfomance

  • ahahah 1:03 1:04 2:15 2:17 Tom And jerry XD!!

  • Misses Fasthands :)

  • Wonderful! Thanks for sharing this excellet performance!

  • Wow, what a performance. Very romantic and powerful. The rapid repeated notes are so clear. Thank you for uploading.

  • Scarlatti meets Beethoven in a big, bold 19th century style Romantic interpretation. This is not a criticism, just an observation about this pianistic approach. A very assured, imaginative and musically polished performance.

  • very clear and expressive and precise and free

  • Wow a tour de force of pianistic prowess! If you record, I'm buying.

  • wonderfull!

  • Difficult Sonata!!!!

  • very beautiful!

  • A beautiful interpretation, and a joy to listen to. Thank you so much.

  • beautiful

  • Excellent performance! You truly express Scarlatti's energy and artistry in this piece. Thank you for sharing this video.

  • Irena Koblar, a beautiful performance. I hope you dont mind if I favorite this one too!!

  • Stellar!

  • beautiful sonata

    beautiful interpretation

  • I'm a great Scarlatti lover, and I find your interpretation so sensitive, so lovely and colourful.

Bravo and thanks for sharing ...

Now I know I have to play this sonata myself.

  • pretty lady, organized quasi masculine sound.....

  • does anyone know the date for this piece?

  • I don't think the exact date is known for sure, but around 1750 seems to be a reasonable estimate.

  • 1740's

  • she is a good pianist...

    have cool her touch...

  • I have the sheet music for thhis, but its confusing, can anyone help? by the way, Irena, you do anamazing performance, this sounds way better than harpsichord.

  • I doubt this has anything to do with it, but Scarlatti only played with his fingers - no thumbs, and you have to sit sideways at the keyboard. :)

  • A little less brio maybe and a little more feeling.

  • why is it so difficult watching her....it hurts.

  • Brilliant performance, very expressive.

  • Strong!!!!

  • yo mamma is strong.

  • Excellent!!

  • Amazing performance:*****

  • ♪♫♪♫♫... ♥

  • Definitely inspired by Pogorelich.

  • 0:31 - 0:58 is so metal

  • best bit

  • metal?

  • yo mamma is so metal.

  • only part I don't like is 2:55 to 2:59, really don't like that, don't know why

  • It's not a poor comment he doesn't like one part thats all

  • great piece, i'm playing this right now!

  • Watching youtube, commenting and playing Scarlatti simultaneously is TEH skillzors U_U

  • chuck norris (a.k.a heifetz) can.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

  • So beautiful! I'm so impressed by this sparkling performance! Just perfect!

  • fabulous playing. keep it up!!!

  • Ah a beautiful woman playing beautiful music. What more can one ask for?

  • @Nykytyne2 Bacon

Grazie Amerigo olivier fadini

  • I really like your playing. This is a beautiful sonata. I noticed I had the score... seems to be a lot of work though.

Will you play in Paris very soon ?

    Merci.

  • Normally I don't like any pedal with my Scarlatti, but this is almost beyond criticism. Beautiful.

  • how do you play it without pedal ? doesnt it make it sound kinda dry?

  • Not if played correctly. Obviously, the instrument these sonatas were composed for had no method of sustaining notes apart from touch. If I'm not mistaken, Pogorelich plays them pedal free. Even in this performance, pedal is used quite sparingly. In truth, as good as this sounds, it's probably quite a bit different from how it would have sounded originally. But who cares, this is awesome.

  • Absolutely superlative. What more can you say.

  • That it should have been played on a harpsichord...haha. I jest. Brilliant performance!

  • Agreed, this is sublime music played sublimely.

  • Magnifique et plein de sensibilité. Merci

  • Bravo!!

  • Thank you so much for this superb performance!

  • Steinway and Sons Rule!! Baroque sounds so nice on them.

  • C'est merveilleusement bien joué. Bravo

  • einfach super

    friedhelmrss

  • shes given whole new meaning to scarlatti in my opinion...

  • If Scarlatti could hear this, he would be impressed.

It's not often that talent goes so well with looks. Holy Helen of Troy!

  • AGREED!!

  • this woman has some masterful and extremely muscular hands. bravo! so crisp and clean and in control!

she reminds me of my piano teacher who used to play this song in a similar manner, though my teacher had some more physical flamboyance.

  • marvellous ... I was looking how to play scalatti with beauty because i m learning one pice of scarlatti, now I know

  • Totally convincing; wonderful; marvellous. ....and sooo beautiful :)

  • Just perfect

  • FASINANTEMENTE HERMOSO!! ...

  • Nosferatu list? Smithsherman, please post your performance of this sonata that we might learn how it's really intended to be played..... What I particularly think is comment-worthy is her sensible use of rubato. Many harpsichord players on Youtube exhibit this weird rhythmic "bumping" for which I can find no historic reference. Perhaps it's an unconscious tendency based on Leonhardt's practise to do the this, except this is a natural, unaffected feature of his stunning playing.

  • Well ... put some of your Scarlatti playing here and we'll see what you mean. For now, I don't.

  • @reinpost The argument that you can't criticize unless you can better is so TIRED. People have a right to express their opinions. And I say this as someone who really likes this performance.

  • @greenunseen I think so, too. I meant to make a different argument, namely, that I some concrete illustration might make bombomchilom's remarks, which I do not understand at all, more comprehensible. I rarely find opinions interesting to read, but concrete information or illustration on which opinions are based are.

  • @reinpost Sorry, I can see how you meant that. I had to finally plant a flag, but I planted it in the wrong place apparently.

  • @greenunseen Don't apologise ... my wording was very sloppy. Let's continue this thread forever so we keep hearing this over and over ... the transparency at 0:30-0:35 for instance, or the repeated note flowing in at 0:47 ... aaaaah

  • Bomb,

Your favorites aren't good enough to spit on.

  • Please tell me you are joking? Ok, it is perhaps played like Beethoven in places, but dont think it is helped by the position of the microphones. Her technique is fantastic and if you are pianists as you state, then you'd realise she is a brilliant pianist.. The repetitive notes are awesome. Bravo from me.

  • to bombomchilom -

respecful of pers.op.overall,if you rate her playing as unexpressive what's your comment about Pogorelich renditions on YT ??

    Thx.

  • Amazing. :)

  • I really love this. Does she ever play harpsichord?

  • it confounds me how the "youtube musical pundits" can pick apart an absolutely perfect performance and find something to critique on. I have been playing and listening to piano for almost 18 years and don't have anything averse to say about this performance whatsoever. Great Post.

  • This pianist has everything she needs. Grt judgement and her sound and stylishness is fabulous in Scarlatti!!

  • Sound a bit harsh, but it could be fault of the recording. Lack of nostalgy and delicacy. Still very good performance

  • Her finger work is so definite. It is unusual for most pianists to play like this. And observe how her little finger curls up when she plays. Just goes to show that "right" technique is very subjective from pianist to pianist. Brava! to her. I wonder how she'd sound doing something gentle and mushy.

  • marvelous playing, I love your repeated notes! Don't know how you did that~ It is surely a difficult piece to perform!

  • omfg this is my favourite domenic scarlatti song..I had to do a project on him in grade 6 and play one of his songs, and I CHOSE THIS ONE >:D

  • There are some good elements. I am not sure about the "arpeggio" chords at the beginning. Why not play them plain? Anyway, the repeated notes later are supposed to be trills, according to Scarlatti's indication. I don;t understand her decision to play them on a single note.. it sounds funny. There is potential, though.

  • mmmmm ohhh GODDDDDDDDDD let it play asshole

  • The mark of an accomplished professional musician is the right to take artistic license and to be allowed some freedom in interpretation.

  • interpretation, yes! But changing the notes - no!

  • Wonderful ! Bravo !

  • MEDIOCRE!?!?!

    How can you say that!?!

Mediocrity is how I play. (if that)

She is beyond mediocrity, maybe her form is a bit different but mediocre, she is not.

  • yeah, maybe you're mediocre. I don't see you on here

  • hahahahahhahahaha maybe you and your family

  • the bench she is seating on seems new (style). is that a steinway bench?

  • Pogorelich is from her neighbouring country!

  • Jannokas85, Pogorelich has a terrific CD of Scarlatti sonatas. This one is on it. Check it out !

  • Thank you, i would love to own that CD...will keep my eyes open for it!

  • frikin flawless!!

  • So many pianists just race through Scarlatti and make it a mere technical/virtuoso piece. I appreciate she doesn't pull the tempo too much. Musicality is great and I love the attention she pays to the percussiveness and clean articulation. Brava!

  • good performance i think...

  • MERAVIGIOSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

  • From the first note, I knew- yes! (Andras Schiff is a favorite performer of Scarlatti, for me). You have a great way to convey the better sound for this piece, the clean "percussion".

  • What is the birth country of this great pianist?

  • She is from Slovenia, Europe.

  • I've respectfully listened to several Scarlatti renditions which sounded to me as pure exercise, just showing off undoubtely great technique but poor musicality -

Obviously I deeply appreciate this warmer and coloured playing, not just notes but music -

delighted to hear more of your Scarlatti -grateful for posting=

  • wonderful...

  • wow.....so hard but done flawlessly

  • 10 !!!!!!!

  • Of course she is!! I'm very proud to be able to say we were colleagues at the same University!

  • yes me too... she is a grate pianist and good friend

  • Great video.

  • She is pretty good!

  • very good
