There is a movie called The Thirteenth Floor. it is very good The Thirteenth Floor shows life back then and mixes it with modern times and then future, reminds me of the Matrix! just get it and watch it, you will not be disappointed.
@MyBaldMom LOL, really? I' will assume that you are really young, and therefore don't know much. So, the art of adding sound to film wasn't done until about 1923. So what happened was, they would shoot their videos, then add sound to them post production. Thats why this was the age of silent films..because they had no choice haha. Color wasn't added till much later.
Yes, this is Market Street and the image is reversed. You can see a tall, relatively undamaged tower on the left. I believe that building was named something like the "Call" building. It was actually on the south-east side of Market Street. This film is moving from roughly the Civic Center north-east to the Ferry Building, which you can see towards the end of the film.
Search YouTube and you'll find another piece of film, taking this same path, just a few months BEFORE the earthquake.
What I find amazing is, everyone is dressed to the NINES!! Neckties and big foofy hats! Heck, a Mag 8 quake at 5am, the survivors would be mercifully forgiven for walking around in their underwear. I mean, were they ALL able to get all that clothing on before their buildings collapsed?
This is some great footage, however it might be backwards. Notice the letters on the side of the building (NEG) on the left of the screen at about 7:55. The letters appear inreverse or backwards. GEN could stand for general store. What do you think?
The other movie thats very similar to this, was shot four day's before the quake! (as far as I know)

Here's the link to the other early film. You'll see the Call Building on the right and the Ferry Building at the end of Market Street
