    /watch?v=Xf9BEUuoOx0&feature=related

  • 1st class and well done to that young kid brilliant

  • fab makesmy hart pound

  • brill wish i was there

  • I love the Captains face at 3:55. You can tell he really loves it.

  • Wow listening and watching this vid reminded me of an article I read somewhere a few weeks ago that the Chinese invented the pipes but the article also said the Roman emporer Nero also played a type of Bagpipe all I know i I love the Pipes wherever they came from well done and thank you also I do know the Romans NEVER defeated the Scots thats why they built Hadrians wall to keep the Scots from raiding into Roman England

  • @AssViolator2nd Wait lol I meant the bagpipes are from Iran then introduced to the Scottish by the Romans, not introduced to the british. Why do you think it's called the highland bagpipe -_-

  • @AssViolator2nd the Romans didn't even conquer Scotland. :D

  • @TheTwollocks The bagpipes are Scottish.. (face palm)

  • well done to the germans for producing this great music

  • The BEST

  • Anno!! Gotta love celtic music...

  • @nico53laval this aint celtic it was written by two germans .... lol

  • @TheTwollocks I know thanks to wikipedia but the style still is celtic music.

  • @nico53laval is it celtic... the bagpipes aren't celtic .... they come from the middle east and were introduced to britain by the romans

  • @nico53laval how can the style be celtic when it was written by germans .... lol ... you will be supprised to find out alot of celtic folk songs aren't celtic either

  • @TheTwollocks So can't a british guy play folk music?

  • @nico53laval i like the truth you cant say a musical instrument or a tune is celtic when they are not ... we brits see alot of this going on with the irish ..... since when was the banjo irish it was brought to america by african slaves yet when the irish play the banjo it suddenly becomes celtic .... ive also heard songs being sung by someone irish and people are like o this is so celtic o yeah since when has english been a celtic language

  • @TheTwollocks Sherlock of course you can't say it's celtic when it's not. But it's celtic music (as a music style) even if it is made by germans --'

  • @TheTwollocks Well okay i's not THAT celtic but still it can be considered as such..

  • shouldnt be long until i get onto this magnificent tune

  • how beautifull a simple melody can be!

  • Makes me want to don the old uniform, grab full gear, slap a 5.56, 7.62, or .303

over my shoulder and strut up and down the street. Of course my butt would be

behind bars in about 15 min......Oh well...........

  • Brilliant, Winnie,

  • my father was playing the pipes there as well

  • Breathtaking!!!

  • thumbs up if your here from cades

  • My father's bagpipe band played this song at his funeral a about month ago.... it was so beautiful, it still brings tears in my eyes when hearing it again.

Although my father isn't here anymore, this song makes him live on forever. Dad, thank you for everything, you were a great guy!

  • This is my favourite song on the bagpipes. Sometimes when I am in Edinburgh and Dundee I stop walking when it is being played.

  • My choice for Scotland's National Anthem. Although (and I'm not nit-picking here) I would have ended the tune with the Lone Piper & Drummer...

  • Saluting the recently fallen men of 2 & 5 Rifles Afgahnistan 2011, saluted by your Nation, resting in Gods Heaven.

  • we let the cremetorium to this after my dads service it is one of the most beautiful bagpie melodies

  • i think this is one of the best tunes that represents Scotland, thank you Germany

  • In een woord,FANTASTISCH,KIPPEVEL.

  • My wedding tune to go in and caledonia to come out !

  • Nice skirts :)

  • The Owl Town Band are coming to Bremen in January 2012.

  • Haunting, beautiful and proud

  • This is absolutely amazing..... the haunting sound of this tune makes me tremble and sends shivers up my spine every time i hear it.

  • wow. ive been asked to play this on the pipes as a concert finale alongside a brass band like this. but im the only piper they could get hold of. *gulp* hope i do as well as in this! :D

  • @JohnWC134 dont panic

  • have 2 say love this song but i think its at its best when played by the mass pipes and drums of the scots div

  • thank you! :)

  • I believe that Highland Cathedral is or was the Anthem of HMG Hong Kong.

Search on "Hong Kong Handover 1997 - Government House" for a great, and sad, performance.

If you do, notice the Governor's reaction as Highland Cathedral is struck as the Last Post and Colours. I knew Chris Patton rather well in our respective roles. As a Yank I can joke that for a "Rt. Hon. Lord," the Chris Patton I knew was a very openly human and keen man. His reaction is no surprise to me - he really loved the place.

  • @DBPHuguenot

I would be honoured if Highland Cathedral is the Anthem of HMG Hong Kong, there have been none. Highland Cathedral is the Anthem of Royal Hong Kong Police.

Chris Patten may not be the best Governor in Hong Kong, but we do recognise him with a strong human touch. It have been a known fact that he loved the place. Just that last 15 years we are stucked, it is a crap, holy crap.

  • @lkh0521

Thank you so much. I was posted in HK for the six years to 1998. Highland Cathedral was played at every military display I attended - by the Royal Gerkahs, Royal Marines, and naturally HMHK Police. I thought it was an anthem for the whole place. About Fat Pang Ding-hong, personally I thought he was terrific and enjoyed his company very much as we both enjoy poetry and history, though I'm a military physician, not a political type. I would have stayed had I could

    Thanks and Best Wishes.

  • @DBPHuguenot Thanks for the search recommendation. That was a very moving ceremony. In brought a tear or two to my eye.

  • @gammondog Thanks. I think at the time there were many tears. See the note below from lkh0521. It's typical of the feeling. At the time I was doing Public Health and Trauma Care work and studies alongside HK civilian and Commonwealth Force professionals. Among my colleagues, a few of the RHK people "Stayed On" and most of the HK civilian folks stayed too (so well educated and trained they could easily have left for the UK or US). Such quiet strength and honor. I really love 'em.

  • @DBPHuguenot

It should be remembered that 30th June, 1997 is a day of heavy rain. It made the the last day of British rule dramatically sad and is reflected in all the ceremonies on that day ...... Who say God is not watching?

  • @lkh0521

I will never forget it the rain. Got in to TK later than I wanted, put on uniform (Lt.Col. Army Surgeon) hoping that would help get into Gov House, as I had been a close to Gov Patton. "Too late, leave a note". More rain, then the ceremony. Could not get near the place (RHKP) but a Royal Marine officer got me in with the visitors. Watching Patton, his assistant and family, when Last Post began, I could not help a tear or two. And more rain. Too bad Dick Hughes could not cover it.

  • goose bumps much!!

  • Très beau !

  • I clicked like! :D

  • Wow, That's amazingg! :))

  • I absoutely used to despise bagpipes but thanks to this song.. I love them very much. I listen to this song about 30-60 times everyday now

  • @The0A1B

    wunderbar!

  • It was written by the Gordon Highlanders while they were posted to Germany. I learned it from the composers a year later while they were on tour in the US.

  • Das ist einfach nur super ! Vielen Dank für's Posten !!!

  • fucking great

  • Now, I REALLY like this, but a few times, the soloist was off.

  • j aime

  • c'est magnifique

    merci

  • Das Lied war eine Homage der Band "Black Föös" (für alle nicht-Kölsche: Nackige Füße ;-)) an "ihre" Stadt Köln!

  • @caddypeter

wenn dann haben sie die Melodie übernommen ;-) sonst nichts ...

  • Fuck on Metal, drummerboy and friends are the new popmusic

  • One of the best & most haunting tunes ever composed - been played at 3 of my family's funerals in Scotland & there is not a tune that makes the hairs stand up on you're neck more than this one - when you hear a lone piper walk away from the graveside playing this tune it really hits you! Love it but also brings tears to my eyes!

  • Ist des Geil

  • if this should be my last experience, I would be the most happy dead ever

  • Hört sich supergeil an ! Einfach toll !!!

  • Du bess die Stadt, op die mer all he stonn

du häs et uns als Pänz schon aanjedonn

Du häs e herrlich Laache em Jeseech

Du bess die Frau, die Rotz un Wasser kriesch.

  • @KEC626 :)

  • Probably the most emotionaly powerful BAG PIPE song.

  • Bagpipes are often played while marching,,,,,,,,to get away from the sound,,

  • @rathmullan2 You can walk as much as you want, you won't ever get far away from your stupidity...

  • So this is German?

  • WOW!!!! What can I say??? This was played at my Granny's funeral, it was her favourite piece of pipe music. The version that was played was nice, but not nearly as strong and powerful as this one. Certainly one of the best versions I've heard and also one of the best videos on YouTube. Thanks Winnie9212 for posting it. Wish I could download it as the ringtone for my mobile though.

  • I am was and still am not a lover of bagpipes, but because I found this overwhelming piece of musical heaven I have a new appreciation for them and listen to this piece at least 5-10 times a day. Absolutely breath taking and inspiring

  • I love this...could listen to it all the time :)

  • My High School's mascot is the Scot. I've never been so goddamn proud of it.

  • well, that is a good idea for collecting music

and of course written by a german composer

  • well, that is a good idea for collecting music

  • I'm listening to this lovely piece of music because that what it is,not because I'm English,Irish,Scottish,Welsh, I listen to any music from any country that touches my heart......

by the way I have welsh and Scottish blood in me and would be happy to have Irish blood as well........

  • @bomaol I'm not Scottish , but it is a wonderful Piece of music , and Irish music is one of the best !!

  • I'm learning this song right now on tha bagpipes! great song! proud ta be scottish! alba gu brath

  • Highland Cathedral...... Why you are So Beautiful?

  • Truely awe inspiring...a testament to our solidarity in peace not war.

  • @Taiginator you are quite asimpering moron aren't you? Didn't your mother ever teach you tolerance?

  • I love this tune & it has been played by a lone bagpiper at 2 of my uncle's funerals - it is so moving in a cemetry to hear the piper walk away playing this tune! Great German tune that brings a pride & swell to Scottish hearts!

  • Great German-composed tune inspired by Scottish/Irish tradition and music!

  • Forget about your English Irish crap we dont want that here, plenty of other sites for yous to talk that crap, we love Scotland and this song,

  • Englands bitch? Haha. Even if it were true, and a Scottish presence in west minster, own parliament and previous Scottish PM's say otherwise, is still better than being the IMF's and EU's bitch. I'd even go out the way and say Ireland's Englands bitch in that regard.

  • Jordo, its 2011. Not a single person alive today has anything to do with any wrong doing in Scotland. Let's focus on more recent history such as the last 250 odd years of domestic peace and mutual benefit to both countries. Coming on youtube and spouting this hatred does nothing but make you look like an idiot. Grow up.

  • @Taiginator em don't forget the 4 million that all brits allowed die in my country and the celts at the time perceived that the scots you metioned where english and most of those scots where lowland scotts loyal to the crown so if they where killed. And i think your a bit off there the scotts being decendent from picts 2 as my parents where both scots from aberdeen their clan was mainly mixed with pict dna and irish so when we invaded scotland the settlers decided to interbreed.

  • @Taiginator Oh really well being half scottish myself and knowing hundereds of scottish people and irish people who both love each others country i think your wrong and lol man scottland most of you are descendents from the irish scoti tribe scotland means ireland in latin and cowardly? Lol we fought in every single war even if we where officaly neutral which one of us has our freedom? LOl not you anyway your still englands bitch mate as much as i love scottland your a bigot.

  • @JordoF6 "which one of us has our freedom? LOl not you anyway your still englands bitch " We have our freedom. We are a free country that is a willing partner in a Union. If our people did not want to continue in this partnership, then we would choose to leave it. Those that want to end the Union remain the minority. Ireland on the other hand, was never a partner in the Union. It was conquered and subjugated and never received the same benefits from the Union so notsurprising that it wanted out.

  • @Tartan englands btich lol if your talking about the north we dont care about them there all your people anyway there not irish well msot of them anyway there descendents of lowland scots which im guessing you are my relatives are highlanders and they do not worship the queen and britains union lol as being mostly scottish myself you a shame on our people sir and lowland scotland was to much of a pussy to be indpendent your nobels wanted power and money north scotland ftw!.

  • @JordoF6 You're not Scottish, you're Irish. Please stop embarassing yourself with your poor grasp of our history (and your own by the look of it). And learn to use grammar. Even just a little bit of it. You sit there trying to lecture people on history, and you are not even capable of writing a sentence.

  • @Tartan well my whole family besides me is from scotland mate and stfu i don't care if i spell something wrong i really don't its not the end of the world if i spell something wrong well maybe for internet spelling nazi's like yourself mate i served in an army for 10 years i have a nice job as a doctor now its more than you got for sure i have a lovely scottish wife who disagree's with your statement face it traitor.

  • @JordoF6 You would struggle to get a job as a janitor with that level of English, so I highly doubt that you will have a job as a doctor. Not even in Ireland. You know nothing about Scotland, you should really stop humiliating yourself and your own country. You're doing the reputation of the Irish no good with your unintelligible nonsense.

  • @Tartan im guessing your an English troll who is pretending to be scottish now it all stfu mate i lived in Scotland for 15 years i was born in ireland and live here now i consider myself both irish and scottish stfu you bigot.

  • @JordoF6 there's only one person pretending to be Scottish here. I don't blame you, but really you shouldn't be so ashamed to be Irish. Now hush.

  • @JordoF6 What are you rambling on about? if you were a doctor you would take a more professional tone, I'd say. I'm equivalent parts Irish and Scotch-Irish, and I get on perfectly fine and so do both of my families. I'd suggest you try and keep a level head about your conversations with people on the internet. After all, it really isn't a big deal.

  • wats that wee yellow mark?

  • Thanks for posting. I keep coming back to watch whenever I need to hear this tune. Great rendition of the piece. My favorite of the videos available on YT.

  • Highland Cathedral is a popular bagpipe tune written by German musicians Ulrich Roever and Michael Korb.

  • My daughter chose this as her wedding march in honour of her Grandfather.

  • See, Germans do make beautyful things!

  • Quite possibly the greatest tune composed by a German..:-)

    I love it.

  • @TheDoug1892 Definitely the greatest tune composed by a German and no matter how many times you hear it on the bagpipes played properly, you get a lump in your throat and the hairs prickle on the back of your neck. Love it.......

  • @TheDoug1892 thanks from germany

    ;)

  • This should be the National Anthem!!

  • @MrClassic022 Aye, and if you don't want it can we Irish have it please. Ceol iontach alainn. Wonderfully beautiful music. It's right up there with "The Gael by Dougie Mc Lean".

  • @MrClassic022 -

    The German national anthem?

The Scottish national anthem, written by 2 GERMANS?

What are you thinking, lad !!!?

  • @MrClassic022 the national anthem of what?

  • Bravo!!! Grüße aus Budapest!!!

  • This is silly, but fun. Search for ' "Celtic supporter" on tour in Australia '

  • @ hippokrates23

I don't know if it's necessary to mention that this music was composed by Germans. Maybe it's interesting. But in my opinion the music speaks its own language...and the origin of it doesn't matter at all.

  • Besser geht nicht !

  • I truely love this piece of music. My eyes swell with tears as my heart swells with pride. There couldn't have been a dry eye in the house! Very proud to be a Scot!

  • Marvellous performance. Hail to the conductor!

  • that was also the anthem of the royal Hong Kong police regiment and was played in a very sad moment for Hong Kong, when it stopped to be british.

  • If you look down you will see Yorkshire, that is a country smaller and with a big tradition, and great soldiers.

  • The pipes are eternal

    !!!

  • My son's bride came into the church to this in April = beautiful - back down the aisle to the Lewis Bridal Song

  • A lot of people talk about how annoying the bagpipes sound, but I think they're lovely.

Wonderful song, and wonderful country. Scottish people should be proud of their history and culture. :)

  • I'm a Scot in London at the moment and this makes me want to go home a lot.

  • That was marvelous!

  • Glorious !!!!

  • I didnt know this was written by german musicans. Anyway, respectful salut to all Scotsman from Germany.

  • If this does not touch the very depths of your heart, I feel sorry for you.

  • This was played at my Mum's funeral. It always brings a tear to my eye, but this version is absolutely brilliant. Rest in Peace Mum - It will be 5 years next month but I will never forget you and I will always love you.

  • brings a tear to my eye! :')

  • Keeping eleven bands together under one conductor has always been a difficult task. The way they did it in this video is ingenious. They placed a mic for the main PA system by the young lads drum so everybody can hear it and he is the one who keeps all the musicians together. He performs very very well under such circumstances. It can be seen in the expression of the conductor at 3 minutes 57 seconds that he is very pleased with the performance.

  • Hello, this is a beautifull piece, how can I get this score? I only found the bagpipe score, thanks!

  • This is memories lane for me.

This was my song with bag pipes walking down the wedding aisle on August 2, 2003.

I chose it because my mom is Scottish and my husband's father is Irish. It was joining the 2 together.

It was perfect!! Love the song :)

  • this has just blown me away!!

  • Episch :D

  • I am utterly gobsmacked!

  • wow i just finished a band concert with a bagpipe band and we played this song... we played it extremely well, sounds exactly like this

  • The music stirrrrs you right through. Brilliant!

  • To the fallen of of Op Herrick 15, go now in peace from this corrupted world to the incoruptable crown of Gods heaven, the British nation honours its fallen, and salutes its heros, Rest in peace brave men & Women, God bless you all.

  • @glasswizzard A heart-felt lament from a proud Irishman to your poetic account of the fallen. Please explain (for my benefit) and everyone elses who the 'Op Herrick 15' are.God bless all those who give the ultimate sacrifice. We have ours,a salute to yours.

  • So super geil wie diese Musik ist, so geil finde ich den Dirigenten, der mitgeht, der weiß, dass er nie wieder so ein Orchester zum dirigieren bekommt!

    Danke fürs hochladen!!!

    Danke, danke, danke!!!

    marineblau

  • I love playing it on my Pipes, if is so relaxing and I love it.
