@afcgeo oh ok interesting thank you for your response i didnt know that lol i hadnt seen it before i havent seen all of the coast guards uniforms and i like that one
Just liked the video, my daughter is in Cape May right now, just go word she will be stationed on the Polar Sea out of Washington State. ...Proud of all that make it through any camp! I had no idea...
I'm going to be in the Coast Guard. But I'm only 15. Does anyone have any advice for me? My guidance councilor said it's good to have a plan like that, but don't you want to go to college, it has values, unlike the Military? (Hes nuts, I don't think he knows the values of the Coast Guard)
Hah I think I remember that Gunner's Mate...(he was also on an episode of Baywatch). Under his tutelage, I scored a nearly perfect score with the berettas and got an expert marksmanship medal!
Hey You know what , I'm going in to become a SAR swimmer. And For all you ignorant punks who diss on other branches , just trying to show off , and trying to prove that you're better than anybody else , you're not. And I hope to god that one day you actually realize how stupid you make yourself look. All branches have 1 thing in common , they all begin with "UNITED"
you were an ast? would you mind if i ask you some questions about it? i leave for basic in a week and a half and really need someone NOT a recruiter answering some questions.
getting injections using an air gun instead of a traditional needle. Hurts like hell too. I had that done in 1991 when I went to boot camp, and I still remember how bad it stung. When they did the guy in front of me, they weren't sure it worked, and asked him if he felt it. He said real sarcastically, "uhh, yeah, I felt it".
lol yeah it was the worst. first few times she did it wasn't so bad, then she went deep on purpose or accident i don't know but after that i just tightned my arm and couldn't relax it
Hey lets just stroke our dicks about what bootcamp is harder...sound good to all you elitist losers? I enjoy serving in the military and regardless of where you went to bootcamp, it doesn't make you any better or worse. Just because you chose the branch with the tougher bootcamp doesn't mean you're better. Get a grip. Don't be such a prick, then we'll talk.
Coast Guard bootcamp is probably harder than Navy bootcamp, I know this because I am in the Navy and our bootcamp wasn't hard at all-Physically ,it does fuck w your patience and FMTB, now that's a mindfuck thru and thru.
personally, they play a mental game, don't get to talk to family for 5 weeks, only letters. stuck in your berthing areas, then go do IT, 5 min head and water break, it was some hard shit, but listen and you'll get through.
Coast Guard boot seems alot harder than and disciplined than I was thinking. Props, good stuff. I saw a video of how ungodly pussy navy boot camp was and figured the same for the coast guard.
hyper i just graduated boot camp april 10th if you have any questions. they wouldn't kick you out because of your eyes watering. they would just give you a hard time about it
pal, I don't mean to be a brute, but no matter what branch you're in, you're going to have to be hard hearted. If you're not hard hearted, you're not going to make it. Drill seargants are meant to be tough and make you want to cry and fight and kill people (and in occasional situations, yell at inanimate objects :) ) That's the way it is. I'm a senior in high school looking at the academy.
Hey, Im thinking about joining uscg, especially since Im turning 27 next month so I dont have much time left to do it. My questions are: Are there ppl about my age joining? Is there a lot of running? How long does the rough part of boot camp last? and Ive heard a lot of it is classroom stuff. Thanks!
Wow. Those instructors look extremely fired up. I actually just requested information for the Coast Guard last week and hopfully will be hearing from a recruitor soon. I did have some questions to ask any of you who have experience boot camp here. My eyes water alot when somebody is yelling at me, will they kick me out cause of that? I had some more questions i hope somebody could answer for me. I would appreciate it.
If any of you guys are prior service or not that have a special trade and want to go into the uscg reserves you should look into rebi reserve enlisted basic indoctrination its only 2 weeks long. I went through regular basic the 8 week deal but alot of people that I met in a school went through the rebi program and said it was very easy
lets face it bro i have been to that exact Training center you will survive, just remember your going in for a good mind fuck and no matter what you do nothing is right till they say it is, stay head strong and you will make it alive...i was company Tango-173 "Keep Clear of Me"
yo mtpillow, yea I went to ft benning too. for army BCT....I kinda dont like the army....After my deployment in afghansitan (which is coming up) I really dont wanna enlist again. Im def trying to go CG. what exactly is "pit stop" what do you do and what is it like?
definatly go coast guard..evertime i seen pit stop they didn't have a cc with them and they just marched everywhere alone they might have it a little easier..maybe yelled at some but im not sure
i ultimately want to become an airline pilot. i am planning on going to college to get a 4 year degree in something non-aviation related, and get my flight training on the side, if college doesn't work out, i'm going to go into the coast guard and fly C-130's!!!!
I am currently in the marine corps, I am almost done with my second enlistment, after my first enlistment i decided to be a moron and go special forces, (don't ever do it) if i join the coast guard will i still have to do basic? even after special forces training 5 combat deployments, two purple hearts and as an E6?
you have the option of going through regular bootcamp (8 weeks) or doing the "pit-stop" program (4 weeks) which is for prior service members. GO PITSTOP!!! I came from Army, did BCT in FT Benning, then joined Coast Guard and decided to go though the regular boot camp and was bored out of my mind. The only hard thing about CG boot is staying awake during class. Because its co-ed, the CC's are pretty resticted in what they are aloud to make you do.
as far as i know no you do not need to attend the whole boot camp phase however i do believe you do need to go to a training center just to attend classes on history and operations and all that fun stuff you should contact a recruiter about it even though your tour may not be over they'll be glad to give you info on transfering after your enlistment is up
You'll do the pit stop program. I've actually met the Company Commander to helped develop the program. It's 4 weeks long I believe, and as far as I know when I was there and saw the prior service guys they never had a smokey bear cover with them.
im currently in the army.. im not going to re-enlist..instead i was thinkiong about going into the Coast Guard. Do i have to go threw boot camp since i already did army BCT?
Hey, i just Graduated boot camp, they don't actually teach AST at boot camp, that is an A-School. If you plan on going AST what they do for you in boot camp is take the AST wannabees and split them up from the company for one of the workouts to do a harder one with another instructor. they also put the AST recruits on one side of the pool during one of the swim circuits to see how you swim and help correct you. other then that a real AST CC can tell you what it's like to be an AST, bout it.
yeah. swim for an hour non stop everyday. then in your spare time do 500 push ups through out the day with about an hours worth of flutter kicks. and then run at min 3 miles. if you practice that you might have a chance.
Yeah not for the pt test. There was a class of AST's running through a 4 week C school out in Petaluma and thats what they did every day just to stay in shape, or just for fun. They take all the people in boot that want to be AST and put them through a special Day work out that shows them what training is going to be like at their A school. just FYI. If you go to boot, and say you want to be an AST be prepared to get your ass kicked all the time.
Ghines1279: do you want to be a AST or a rescue swimmer? From what I recall their are two kinds of rescue swimmers. One is AST. The other are HST's. That's Health Service technican's for those of you who didn't know the abbrievation.
no i chose a different rate. maybe there WERE two kinds of swimmers. but now its just AST. HS's are apart of flight crews, but they dont jump out of helo's. they cut the T off the end of HS btw
Ghines1279: I'll take your word on you being right! I retired from the CG in '94 as a SK1. Last duty station was Airsta Clearwater. That's how I new about HS rating.
Oscar95. Feb16 /1976. Went on to AD school. Then 1st duty st. Air St.Traverse City Mi.,Flt Mech.HU16e Albatross( " The Goat "). HH52a " C " school, SARcrewman79 Stationed Air St. MIAMI/Opa Loca Fl. 4 rescues, 4 winged Ss 12 &1/2 Survivors.2Nite 1 storm, 2Day,1storm. No time to be scared, good training got me thu to do the job ! I,d do it again in a skinny N.Y. minute. " Ya gotta go out, Ya don,t gotta come back " ! " Semper Paratus is their Guide ", every day so you may be safe on Land or Sea.
My son was in Charlie 176 and was on the CGC Morgantheu, is now a ET3 stationed in California. We are so proud of him and what he has accomplished. I had a brother in the CG and two sons. God Bless the Coasties
Who the hell do you think your talking too if your an Army vet tell me where youve been stationed so I know im not talking to some phony and im not disrespecting any branch just clarifying a few things for these gung ho coast guardsmen
LADODGER73-You obviously never served in any branch of the service I can tell this by talk that kind of shit. Or if you did you must have been a real shitbag. Either way all branches serve a purpose to our GREAT nation and serve it with honor and respect each others. There is some friendly rivalry but thats it. Tired of these wannabe fuckers talkin shit about something they know nothing about. Try getting off your ass and giving it a try. Ask a Marine about Douglas Munro.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
puddle pirates what a joke to even think your as dope as the marines or army even the navy out of your minds ha ha like that kid nobody likes only your mommas
Obviously you guys don't know what the fuck your talking about and are a bunch of shit bags. Why don't you move your ass to a communist ruled country if you can't respect the men and women who serve. I can't believe I serve our nation willingly for shit bags like you to have the same rights. ungrateful bastards.
Ha, i bet all u do is sit at home and wack off, while real men like the guys in this vid and my self fight for the right to have the red white and blue on our flag. Yes the USCG is 2nd hardest and number one is the USMC.
I'm a US Army veteran, and you need to take your head out of your ass kid.
I would never dream to disrespect one of the other services. You are disrespectful to all of us who have served our country with pride.
Learn to shut your mouth if you've nothing good to say about our brothers and sisters at arms. You know what they say---if you don't know what you are talking about, then shut the hell up!
Boot camp sucks. and if your a squad leader it is the worst. You didnt have it any harder or easier than anyone else.
2nd
all the services think they are the shit. We do to. In VA beach coasties and marines were hanging out. It gets clicky for reason when your at the bar. were going to role some navy guys. Its just a rivalry. dont take it personally. you know if you were at a bar and it was just you and a squid you guys would have each others backs. I got nothing but respect for all
why cant we show what realy happens in boot camp all i see is pussy videos of cape may. i want people to show a CC blowing up on someone. i just want to see a company getting beat or recruits getting destroyed on the quarterdeck... i dont know, to me these vids just seem so sugar coated.
This is Coast Guard Bootcamp, this isnt Special Forces/ Navy SEAL Special Forces.. search youtube for Hell Week Camp, thats NAVY SEAL Bootcamp, what you want.
if you read my comment i never said anything about the navy seals... i was saying how watered down and sugar coated the coast guard portrays ourselves in these stupid videos when in reality we do have an intense boot camp.
I was sierra 176 CPO Spicer cc. pleased to make your aquaintence shipmate...and for the record if i had the time and resourses i'd make a badass uscg bootcamp vid. so that performance tracker you wanted me to fill out wouldnt apply.lol!
awesome video. helped this mom out a lot. what's it really like day to day? do you happen to know how many people can be invited per person for graduation?
If its an outdoor graduation then there really is no limit. At my graduation I just had Oct 3, a couple people had maybe 10-20 people each. But the cutoff for outdoor graduation is the 1st (we were allowed an outdoor one due to the nice weather). So most likely if your child is graduation soon, it'll be an indoor graduation which I am almost positive there is a limit. What that limit is though I couldn't tell you.
Golf-180 was indeed an adventure. Granted it's boot camp which is an adventure itself. But the things our Company Commanders said about Golf compared to other companies, something tells me Golf was different; "special" if you will.
Now to satisfy my curiosity Brickjda, who are you?
i was foxtrot 180, and no lie your company had it so easy, compared to us, we had the hardest company commanders, if you knew espue or stevens then they could have told you we had it bad, your company was a joke, no offense, you just wasn't pushed
Good thing hard doesn't mean best. Our lead CC that we had for most of boot was chosen because he is considered the best. This was told to us by the Battalion Commander and CO.
My brother is an Electronics Technician in the CG. He already has many college credits, and he can be sent to any station in the country because ETs are always needed.
it all depends...i too have 3 tatts. 1 on both my forearms, n 1 on my shoulder. the way they determine if its acceptable is by covering them with an open palm. only so much can be visible. if you can cover the whole thing, youre good. i cant cover mines completely, but it was good enough, so u shouldnt have anything to worry about. good luck!
well...youll have a military background, which would allow you to take advantage of government, and high security jobs. you wouldnt have the benefits anymore though
I'm really considering the coast guard right now. Did all of you really enjoy it? Were you able to get stationed pretty much where you wanted? I'd love to get stationed in Hawaii, Florida, or Cali but i'm sure they're all in high demand. When you get out of the coast guard are there many job oppurtunies that pay well? thanks
U-134 here. Cape May was both the best and worst in so many ways. I would not change a thing about it. I feel for all that have gone before me and all that have been since...SEMPER PARATUS
To Killtad, when you get the guts to jump out of a hovering Helo into an ocean with thirty foot swells and rescue drowning victims at sea. then come an talk to these "puddle pirates" Until then, stick it where the Sun doesn't shine junior!
my roommate just graduated from CG boot camp. He was disappointed by how little swimming there was, or work in the water. We have both been swim instructors for 4 years and lifeguards and trained together. He was looking forward to challenging swimming and less overall class time. Oh well, at least i know what to expect when i go ion
Unless you decide to become a Aviation Survival Technician (few do), you'll spend very little time, if any, in the water in the performance of your job.
the barking instructor thing is strictly 8 weeks in boot camp, after that it is much like a regular job. of course you make friends w/your co-workers like most any work environment. i was in the coast guard from 2000 - 2004.
Oh yeah, I was in the MEPS 1991, standing in line for my physical. I had just finished in the top 200 in the los angeles marathon at age 17. I had just been the youngest to ever do the ironman triathlon, and did it under 10 hours. I had just finished in the top 20 of the 100 mile solvang century. The doctor looks up at me and says that I am too heavy to go to boot camp!!!!!!! I laughed my ass off and told him what I had just typed above. He told me to come back in a week and to lose 10 lbs
Can I just end this debate by saying that to make it into the Coast Guard (alpha 139 scd 1991 #1 grad) one must score higher in the asvab. Only a fraction make into/through the Coast Guard boot camp as compared to the Navy. Thank God for the USN for defense during war. Thank God for the USCG everyday, all the time.

yeah. swim for an hour non stop everyday. then in your spare time do 500 push ups through out the day with about an hours worth of flutter kicks. and then run at min 3 miles. if you practice that you might have a chance.
Ghines1279 2 years ago
um no they dont i got what the training is its not 500 push ups for the pt tes
dudewithhawk 2 years ago
Yeah not for the pt test. There was a class of AST's running through a 4 week C school out in Petaluma and thats what they did every day just to stay in shape, or just for fun. They take all the people in boot that want to be AST and put them through a special Day work out that shows them what training is going to be like at their A school. just FYI. If you go to boot, and say you want to be an AST be prepared to get your ass kicked all the time.
Ghines1279 2 years ago
Ghines1279: do you want to be a AST or a rescue swimmer? From what I recall their are two kinds of rescue swimmers. One is AST. The other are HST's. That's Health Service technican's for those of you who didn't know the abbrievation.
20031200 2 years ago
no i chose a different rate. maybe there WERE two kinds of swimmers. but now its just AST. HS's are apart of flight crews, but they dont jump out of helo's. they cut the T off the end of HS btw
Ghines1279 2 years ago
Ghines1279: I'll take your word on you being right! I retired from the CG in '94 as a SK1. Last duty station was Airsta Clearwater. That's how I new about HS rating.
20031200 2 years ago
lol 500 pushups is kind of overkill just to have a chance. I think if you can do five hundred, boot camp will be cake.

Supersteiger 3 years ago
I'm a US Army veteran, and you need to take your head out of your ass kid.
I would never dream to disrespect one of the other services. You are disrespectful to all of us who have served our country with pride.
Learn to shut your mouth if you've nothing good to say about our brothers and sisters at arms. You know what they say---if you don't know what you are talking about, then shut the hell up!
Have a nice day.
SimSam2880 3 years ago 3

This is Coast Guard Bootcamp, this isnt Special Forces/ Navy SEAL Special Forces.. search youtube for Hell Week Camp, thats NAVY SEAL Bootcamp, what you want.

if you read my comment i never said anything about the navy seals... i was saying how watered down and sugar coated the coast guard portrays ourselves in these stupid videos when in reality we do have an intense boot camp.

awesome video. helped this mom out a lot. what's it really like day to day? do you happen to know how many people can be invited per person for graduation?
CGMamma 3 years ago
If its an outdoor graduation then there really is no limit. At my graduation I just had Oct 3, a couple people had maybe 10-20 people each. But the cutoff for outdoor graduation is the 1st (we were allowed an outdoor one due to the nice weather). So most likely if your child is graduation soon, it'll be an indoor graduation which I am almost positive there is a limit. What that limit is though I couldn't tell you.

brickjda 3 years ago
R.I.P Peanut Butter.
Golf-180 was indeed an adventure. Granted it's boot camp which is an adventure itself. But the things our Company Commanders said about Golf compared to other companies, something tells me Golf was different; "special" if you will.
Now to satisfy my curiosity Brickjda, who are you?
IggyJiggy 3 years ago
i was foxtrot 180, and no lie your company had it so easy, compared to us, we had the hardest company commanders, if you knew espue or stevens then they could have told you we had it bad, your company was a joke, no offense, you just wasn't pushed
jthompson3737 3 years ago
Good thing hard doesn't mean best. Our lead CC that we had for most of boot was chosen because he is considered the best. This was told to us by the Battalion Commander and CO.

i was worried about this as well. i have a tattoo on each wrist and a tattoo on the back of my neck. im worried i wont be able to get in :/
MissDesiQ 3 years ago
it all depends...i too have 3 tatts. 1 on both my forearms, n 1 on my shoulder. the way they determine if its acceptable is by covering them with an open palm. only so much can be visible. if you can cover the whole thing, youre good. i cant cover mines completely, but it was good enough, so u shouldnt have anything to worry about. good luck!

I'm really considering the coast guard right now. Did all of you really enjoy it? Were you able to get stationed pretty much where you wanted? I'd love to get stationed in Hawaii, Florida, or Cali but i'm sure they're all in high demand. When you get out of the coast guard are there many job oppurtunies that pay well? thanks

my roommate just graduated from CG boot camp. He was disappointed by how little swimming there was, or work in the water. We have both been swim instructors for 4 years and lifeguards and trained together. He was looking forward to challenging swimming and less overall class time. Oh well, at least i know what to expect when i go ion

quick question.
are there REAL & "cool" people who join the coast guard?
seems fucking cool to be doing ship stuff, just would like to b surrounded by more than barking robot instructors.
do you guys enjoy the people in your platton or squadron?
... are your co-workers, just work aquintaces, or do you feel connected on a friendship human level?
woohho
skaaaapy 3 years ago
the barking instructor thing is strictly 8 weeks in boot camp, after that it is much like a regular job. of course you make friends w/your co-workers like most any work environment. i was in the coast guard from 2000 - 2004.

He told me to come back in a week and to lose 10 lbs
imarkit 3 years ago
Can I just end this debate by saying that to make it into the Coast Guard (alpha 139 scd 1991 #1 grad) one must score higher in the asvab. Only a fraction make into/through the Coast Guard boot camp as compared to the Navy. Thank God for the USN for defense during war. Thank God for the USCG everyday, all the time.
