@VacDudes Was a shame to lose Dawes but i think in his last series his songs weren't all that great, whereas I've gone from hating Epithemo as panel regular in the last series to slowly growing to love him as the score keeper in the new series. The level of authorative snobbery he has behind his wierd desk-keyboard makes his character golden. Vic & Bob always put on a great show. Personally it'll never get better than Johnny Vegas, Eranu and skanking but its the best thing on Telly by a mile.

@drongovids Agreed, the beauty of language is that it is able to evolve over time. Many words which are commonplace now would have been considered slang 100 years ago. Personally I can't stand people who complain about slang and street talk eroding our culture and language.

I myself am studying English Language at University and I find just as much joy in reading Chaucer as I do speaking to my friends in what you would consider street talk.

@tu9 Also if you look at a country like Spain, they have almost completely different languages depending on whether you're in the northern Basque region or the Catalan region. (I'm sure there are many more). I'd wager that these different dialects stem from slang, accents and street talk and if anything I'd argue that it makes the Spanish language MORE interesting and MORE cultured. In my opinion, people who complain about this kind of thing are ignorant to the way that language works.

And Basque isn't even an Indo-European language, so would have trouble being a dialect of Spanish! Galician, too, is a distinct language, closely related to Portuguese, though Andalusian should probably be considered a dialect of Spanish.

In any case, English is one of the most flexible languages in the world, not least because we don't have an Academie francaise equivalent.
