Canada is just waking up to that fact. Last municipal election only saw a 33% turn out here. The school election has to be redone since it didn't get the 10% turn out it needed.
No matter who you vote for the program will remain the same. And that program isn't in favour of the average Canadian citizen.
@sirbata Exactly! Democracy lost it's meaning. Most countries today call themselves democratic. East Germany was the German Democratic Republic before the wall fell. Just double talk.

If there is nothing to vote for - what shall people vote?
The programs of the parties are very similar and the politics are neoliberal measures, for capitalistic interests... instead of people before profit!
So what do you expect from conscious people?
Who likes to vote for their own oppressor?
