Unfortunately, no, it was not just a dream. This is Houston. The place where tradition goes to die. And yes, Astroworld was at least a SUMMER tradition for many Houstonian kids like myself. I'd go there with my friends. Mom would drop us off early in the morning and not pick us up until after the fireworks show. It was hot during the summer, but it was SAFE and man was it fun!!! Great memories that my own kids will, sadly, never have...:-(
i dont think it was the demalization that was the worst. I think its the fact that six flags started to ruin one of Hustons greatest attractions... I may not know much about it but I know yall Hustonins really loved that place.
WOW are those actual videos of them tearing it down and distroying it???? Wow. its really sad! My mom kept telling me she wishes she could've taken me there. i really wish she would have but she never did. It seems really amazing!
The wealthy businessmen win again. The land is worth more as an extention of the nearby medical center than an amusement park, even though it was $40 to get in and 3 bucks for a 16oz bottle of water.
The land will be used to build a large hospital that will be funded by our sky rocketing healthcare insurance
Sad, so sad. I miss astroworld so much, I remember visiting every summer until '01. I really wish I could have had the chance to visit before the park closed for good. The demo of Astroworld was nothing more than corporate stupidity.
ITS STUPID! why would they sell the astroworld land and (he) thought the land was more now its nothing cause its been a dump of dirt just sitting there for 3 years now im freaking
mann thats sucks. i just cried one time i pass by astroworld graveyard cause i had so many memories. It just hard thinkings people were walking through it and riding rides and now its not there anymore.
When Asrtoworld opened in the late '60s, Astroworld was the future.

The changing demographics in that area had a lot to do with the end of Astroworld...no one with money wanted to venture into Mexico.

I loved it! Anyone who's experienced the enchantment of Astroworld should also see David Purdie's "Disastroworld" at the Art Car Museum.

David Purdie is becoming the John Waters of the Houston short documentary scene. His eccentric cinematic genius is just beginning to emerge.
