As a lower bass, I can say with confidence that there are many parts in many songs which just don't call for the lower bass singers.I regularly sing only three quarters of a song, purely for the fact that my voice wouldn't sound right if I tried to cram it in with everyone else.

We saw them at the SF Operahouse last year when Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion was broadcast there - and featured Chanticleer just before they left for their european tour. Keillor sang with them too; he has really good taste in musicians. They perform in early Dec. each year at Memorial Chapel at Stanford (always sells out). They enter the huge stone church single file in the dark, each carrying a candle and singing O Come O Come Emanuel. Gives everyone chills. Don't miss it!

Countertenors beat a soprano any day. Women can't tune to the male voices for squat after F. Sweet Adelines, fine; madrigals, fine, but god you can't get a blend like that with females on the top part. what was that top note? G? I don't have completely perfect pitch yet, but it's good within a half step until after Treble D and Bass Eb.

I sang a duet with one of the guys that sings soprano in Chanticleer once -- before he joined them. Usually I have to throttle back some when I'm singing with a (female) soprano, but with this guy not only did I not have to do so, but he basically stomped all over me when he wanted to. He's awfully impressive.

Keep in mind, even if they're going out of tune, that this is 9:30-9:40 in the morning. Maybe you could hop out of bed and do that for us?

I can hear that they go out of tune a few times. I'm just saying, give them some slack. They still sound better right after climbing out of bed than most groups do at their best.
